Last week, Dambuster Studios released a performance patch for Homefront: The Revolution. And today, Deep Silver announced a free weekend for this first-person shooter.
Homefront: The Revolution was not well received by critics and gamers. The game initially also suffered from some performance issues that have been resolved. And since there wasn’t any demo, this free weekend event will be appreciated by a lot of PC gamers that wanted to give this game a go.
From now and until 1PM PT (9PM BST, 10PM CEST) Sunday 11th September, players are able to download and play both the Single Player and Resistance Mode sections including the 2 brand new missions, Boom Patrol and Indy Forever.
Those interested can go ahead and download Homefront: The Revolution from Steam.
Have fun everyone!

43gb in 3 day to download on my internet speed -_-‘
i feel your pain 🙁
Don’t worry, game is crap anyway. Free doesn’t make a crap game any good.
How is the game crap? I think it’s a pretty good game.
Well you might like it but other people certainly don’t
54 critic and a 3.4 user score for PC on metacritic, yikes
Metacritic is a useless metric for judging games, especially ones that had severe performance issues at launch.
The entire reason it got middling critic scores was “It’s fun, but it runs bad.” Well, it doesn’t run badly anymore. The game had severe performance issues on PC until about 8 days ago. (Consoles used to drop to 17fps at points. Now they don’t.) It’s going to take a while for that to trickle down because a number people tend to think, “I played the game months ago and it was broken therefore it is broken now” is a logical attitude.
I think Metacritic is useful and basically accurate, it’s not just one man scores. And It saves me lots of times and money.
Crowdsourcing your opinions on art is one of the worst things you can do.
Except this is not just an art, it’s a commercial entertainment product which meant to make money. And most people only have limited time and money to spend, reading some collection of reviews and critics are a good way to prevent wasting time and money on something they or I don’t want.
Your shilling is useless to me.
I never said you shouldn’t care about the opinions of others. But people who absorb the opinions of others rather than developing opinions of their own are fools.
I’ve never played Overwatch, for example. Therefore I have no opinion on Overwatch. If I were an idiot, I would read the opinions of others and adopt them as my own, bleating about how great/terrible Overwatch is.
I love critique, good or bad. But “this is shit/amazing because I heard random people on the internet claim it was so” is not a good way to judge games, films, books, etc.
Except it has a bad score on all platforms PC has the highest score
Because the PC version didn’t run at 15fps at launch.
You’re contradicting yourself. You said it got low scores because of bad performance at launch yet then you say PC didn’t have performance issues? so if it didn’t have performance issues what other excuse do you have? Remember that metacritic has scores for every platform and PC had the “highest” score with PS4 getting a 48 critic and 3.7 user score and xbone getting a 49 critic and 4.0 user score
The game was buggy and run like crap but they have patched it alot since then. It is a repetitive open world guirella game. Like red faction guerrilla but instead of destruction you got stealth.
it has been patched alot since then, if you like open world games like mgs v, far cry 4 or just cause 3 that you play as a guerrilla you can give it a shot.
Only 3 days? You are lucky.
-.-)’
Mine would be much worse.
less than an hour for me to download 😛
i’ll try it but I already know what a turd this game is, I mean its made by Free Radical, but i want a laugh.
“i’ll try it but I already know what a turd this game is, I mean its made by Free Radical”
Either you’re trolling, or you really are the most underage poster to roam the earth.
Because Free Radical has such a stellar track records of quality games.
Yes? How old are you?
TimeSplitters.
TimeSplitters 2.
TimeSplitters 3.
Second Sight.
Crysis 2.
Crysis 3.
Ryse.
Those are all fantastic games that Free Radical worked on. They also worked on Haze, which was kinda botched by being forced to make it for PS3, and the cancelled Battlefront III.
Are you suggesting that Free Radical don’t have an excellent track record?
Really pisses me of they did not get the chance to make another timespliters.
Someone needs to do there homework, Free Radical have a fantastic history of 1st Person Shooters, ever heard of Timesplitters?? If not get an emulator and enjoy
Hopefully this will help demonstrate how far the game has come via patching. It’s a very different creature than it was at launch.
tow that corporate line, it’s so obvious you are a Dambuster/Deep Silver employee
And it’s obvious you haven’t played the game. How many Free Radical games have you played, anyway?
Not corporate at all they could have dropped the game but they have patched it alot from when it came out, it has gone too much further than release and they release new dlc for free. I dont get why would you turn down the ability to play the game for 2 days and if you like it buy it for 20 bucks.
Huh? turn down the ability to try it for free? I did try it, that was the whole point of my post. It was terrible. Not worth the 40+ GB download. Granted the game does run decent, but a decent running turd is still a dud.
In just one hour of game play my short list of issues:
– the production values. the god awful green screen opening scene would make even SyFy network cringe
– FOV, a slider that goes from 40 to 65 vertical FOV
– the writing and dialogue is so amateurish, come on the first game had John freaking MIllus write it!
– mouse acceleration issues, and sensitivity issues
– the hacking minigame was clearly designed with console dual sticks in mind
– i had CRAZY ghosting as soon as I was able to actually play the game and this is on a 144hz monitor with the game running at 120+ fps
– HUD and menus again where clearly designed with consoles and analog sticks in mind
– the driving is so shallow and vapid, you driver over a enemy and there is ZERO feedback, just keeping on going like nothing happened, no feedback at all
at this point I had enough
I disagree the writing is better than the first game. Yes the minigame was designed for dualsticks but the fov is not that bad and i did not notice the other issues.
” the driving is so shallow and vapid, you driver over a enemy and there is ZERO feedback, just keeping on going like nothing happened, no feedback at all”
Good man the game has one vehicle, one, it is not a driving game it is a gurella game, the whole point of the game is the limited resources and hit and run tactics.
>- FOV, a slider that goes from 40 to 65 vertical FOV
Why is that a problem? Most FPS games don’t go much higher than that. And it’s quite obvious why the FOV can’t go any higher since it begins to break things if you manually override it.
>- the writing and dialogue is so amateurish, come on the first game had John freaking MIllus write it!
Hiring one of the writers from The Witcher 3 to write the game was maybe a mistake. Who knows.
>- mouse acceleration issues, and sensitivity issues
The game has no mouse acceleration as far as I can tell. If there was any mouse issue, it was likely related to the game’s uneven performance at launch.
>- HUD and menus again where clearly designed with consoles and analog sticks in mind
The mouse and keyboard controls work much better than the controller versions. Especially when performing tasks like using the mobile phone.
>- i had CRAZY ghosting as soon as I was able to actually play the game
and this is on a 144hz monitor with the game running at 120+ fps
It’s called Temporal Anti-Aliasing, and it’s optional for a reason. It’s even optional in the console versions, which is usually unheard of. It reduces jaggies, but introduces ghosting.
Even if thats true, developers that disrespect their customers are not worth anyones time. Maybe next time they will think twice before releasing a broken mess.
Speaking of time, when you finish the game it says that they did they best they could in a limited time and troubled development i cant look down on them for that, they went from crytek to deepsilver and multiple revisions and it was a large project for such a small studio. I hope they dont close down they got potential.
I don’t think the launch date was something the developers had any control over. They got bailed out by Deep Silver, and the game was delayed from 2015 to 2016. It clearly wasn’t ready at launch, but there’s no lesson to be learned here besides “try to live in a universe where Crytek doesn’t run out of money and stop paying you for four months.”
“Time Splitters was console garbage”
….. play timespliters 2 and 3 please.
Dude, TimeSplitters was a fantastic series. I say that as someone who vastly prefers Rareware’s work to Free Radical’s, since Rareware created the greatest FPS game of all time with Perfect Dark, but TimeSplitters was a bit of a step back that was more like GoldenEye.
Ryse was a great game. Very pretty, well acted, and with some fun combat. What was your problem with it? It remains one of the best looking PC games on the market. It’s worth playing for cinematic value alone.
Some members of Dambuster/Free Radical/Crytek UK also worked on the singleplayer components of Crysis 2 and Crysis 3.
I mean, dude, taste differs and all that, but you’re basing your entire argument on the notion that the very well respected TimeSplitters series was “console garbage”.
Listen, you’re on PC gaming site, talking about how awesome CONSOLE shooters are. Most of us skipped Time Crisis, and Haze. We where too busy playing PC games at that time.
So console dev’s make a multiplat game and its underwheling, of course PC gamers are going to call it garbage.
