It appears that Electronic Arts may be working on a new open-world Star Wars game. According to a job listing on EA’s site, the big publisher is looking for a Lead Online Engineer who will lead a team to deliver online features for a Star Wars Open World project.
Our guess is that this Star Wars project is the re-imagination of Visceral’s cancelled Star Wars game. As the job listing reads, the Lead Online Engineer will design, architect and implement the Online infrastructure for the Star Wars project while working with industry-leading central technologies.
So, other than its open-world nature and the fact that it will feature online capabilities – like EA claimed when it shut down Visceral Games – we don’t know much about this new Star Wars game.
Back in October 2017 when EA shut down Visceral Games, the big publisher stated that it will shift the game to be a broader experience that allows for more variety and player agency. The game will still be using the Frostbite Engine and its development team will reimagine central elements of the game to give players a Star Wars adventure of greater depth and breadth to explore.

I wish for a single player only title. Not plagued by microtransactions and pay to to gofaster schemes and pay to unlock upgrades.
Am i crazy to think this is still possible in 2018?
POLL : ANSWER YES OR NO.
Sadly No
Absolutely wrong. Ever heard of Metro: Exodus?
The only reason this game exists is so they can push that payment model. The cancelled title didn’t have it.
You think you should be able to just buy a game outright and play and enjoy it?! lol You gotta get with the times. Games are designed from the ground up to latch onto your wallet and slowly siphon funds from you until you forcibly yank the wallet away and cancel all your credit cards.
Please No more
It’s not the problem of there being to many, it’s the problem that EA owns the rights to all Star Wars games and there in lies to problem. They’re not a good studio, they can’t produce good games outside of Battlefield(And that’s 99% DICE doing it) and that’s it.
Take out EA, get a real RPG team in there like Obsidian, Larian Studios, Looking Glass, or Arkane Studios and we could have a good game.
Imagine stealth-ing around in Arkane style, force choking people and knocking them out and then sneaking by two storm troopers talking about patrol an area and about how “pesky” Jedi are around.
That would be worth it.
Ea how ever is a no go.

We all know how it’s going to end. It’s going to be a complete and totally terrible game that in no way lives up to the hype(unless you’re a completely stupid brainwashed Star Wars Fan boy who thinks Disney can do no harm or haven’t grown the hell up and still think SW is the best thing ever).
It will not be anything that will be good(such as a kotor), or hell even the damn MMO. I’m confident TOR will end up being a better game and that game is were MMOs went to die.
KOTOR was the best Star Wars game but even it was a little overrated back in the day imo because……well……Star Wars
Kotor isn’t the best Star Wars game by a long shot, it’s doesn’t hold up at all any more. When I said good, I meant for the time. the game is the modern day equivalent of molasses now.
What we need is a game in that style but actually done for modern audiences as I said in a comment somewhere in this page, Obsidian doing an Star Wars RPG in the vein of Pillars Of Eternity 2 it would be amazing. You can have your ship mechanics, land on different planets, and go about the story in a cRPG style. Now that obviously is if you like CRGs, because I know people who think Pillars is terrible due to it being a true Dungeon Crawl.
Nah son. X-Wing or TIE fighter or Jedi Knight 2.
Who cares about what EA wants to bring in the plate with microtransactions on the menu, huh?
HAHA NO
Dont care anymore what they do
Ah yes, more online drivel. Well done, EA.
Hope they manage to salvage some of the parts from Visceral’s Star Wars Game.
It isn’t new Star wars from EA….it’s Visceral Star Wars game that EA move the game to EA Montreal.
Of course so they can implement lootboxes in it.
Whatever they do, i want to play with a light saber, not shoting weapons like in every other shooter.
Even if they made a game as good as Kotor 1, I still wouldn’t buy it due to how terrible modern EA is. They haven’t made a good game in ages, much less an actual good RPG.
Imagine a Star Wars RPG made by Obsidian in the style of Pillars Of Eternity? Tons of dialogue options, ways to talk yourself out of fights, and everything else that comes along with it. Since Pillars Of Eternity 2 has the new ship mechanics, they could even add that into the game through maintaining your space ships from fights or what ever they decide to throw out you.
Oh how we could dream, but EA sadly is where dreams go to die.
What the hell is “Nu-star wars” and why are you green texting on Dsogaming?

Any game with any online feature is a pass for me unless it’s completely separate from the main game. I will not participate in it, I’ve never cared, and never will care. The last time I can remember such a feature being half interesting was Ninja Gaiden 1 on Xbox where you could do score trials, and that was it. Wasn’t that interesting but hey at least it was a full game. I never played the multiplayer in AC brotherhood, revelations, 3, 4, origins (were there?), and almost any other game in the past 10 years except multiplayer-centric games.
And even then, I still want nothing to do with online. When you’re better than 90% of players it’s boring.
EA “We cancelled the game written by Amy Hennig.”
EA and Disney propaganda machine “Buy this new game with a female protagonist, with much worse writers, with no experience, whose only resume was hating white men on Twitter, when they were hired over qualified minorities. You know like Sam Maggs at Bioware. Say anything bad about our game or new movies and you are sexist!”
Fans with an IQ over 75 “No thanks, gonna go play an old Bioware/Lucas Arts game that was made before Disney or EA or read the Thrawn trilogy again. This Star Wars sucks, EA sucks and Disney needs boycotted at this point after running Marvel into the ground, Star Wars into the ground and ESPN into the ground.”
“feature online capabilities”
Pay to skip the content you paid for. Online DRM checks, and boosters and such. they can shove it where it’s belong.
It must be another game with forced grinding mechanics, nothing new here…
@j@jjensson:disqus you mean to tell me you don’t want a portion of the game where you have to unlock Jabba the Hutt theme loot boxes in an online Jabba’s Palace to proceed with the game? Come on now, it will be so much fun getting the same sand trooper armor pieces over and over again.
make one good game and thats it quality over quantity look at nintendo and learn
As if Star Wars wasnt ruined enough with the BF2 fiasco and that abysmal movie they made.
Uh-huh.
