DOOM releases next week and according to id Software’s lead renderer programmer, Tiago Sousa, it will feature a “Ultra Nightmare” graphics setting on the PC. As Tiago confirmed, Ultra Nightmare will be a step above Ultra settings.
@TobiasBerghoff @billykhan it's a step above Ultra : )

In other words, we are currently looking at five possible presets, which will most likely be: Low, Medium, High, Ultra, Ultra Nightmare.
It will be interesting to see whether there will be any noticeable differences between Ultra and Ultra Nightmate, and whether this new graphics setting will justify its GPU requirements.
Stay tuned for more!

Well, if it’s anything like The Division where ultra volumetric fog on ultra kills performance for no image quality gain at all over medium then forget it. PC can’t be too far away from consoles according to Ubisoft, so watch out for these bogus ultra options in any game. Point is, don’t just pick ultra settings for the sake of it, beware.
i hate to agree with you but i do
Yeah they wont go far cause consoles would look like ps2
So the 970 ands 3700 requirements are for Ultra Nightmare?
Of course not.
GRRRR!!!! I WILL DESTROY MY PC IF IT DOSENT RUN MAX SETTINGS!! IWILL BURN IT! YES I WILL BURN IT! If it dosent run max settings 1080p even at 30 fps I WILL DESTROY IT
Don’t forget to make a video while you’re at it.
Wait, we will know in about a week what will happen. But if it dosent run well yes i will make a video destroying it. With a big hammer that will have my Foot Clan symbol on it!
Welp, after playing the beta, i know i am not going to buy this game for the multiplayer. Anyways, to me, doom has always been about a good single player campaign. Let unreal tournament deal with the multi :).
I think the multiplayer will need some mods by the community, so we can have proper deathmatch and other classic modes in the game.
Because ,really, DooM practically invented online multiplayer on its genre (even if initially it wasn’t fully planned to be in), then Quake 1 perfected it to the max, and then with the new DOOM we get a modernized version that mixes several game styles into one. We’ll see how that plays out at release. Personally I didn’t hate the beta, but didn’t love it either, because it kind of lacked personality as a DOOM/ ID Software game, but nowadays most games suffer from this, I’m afraid, especially in multiplayer.
i think the new doom needs mod support period.
You can pretty much make your own multiplayer modes with SnapMap
Yes I know that but we still don’t know how limited SpapMap will be, I’ve seen the official stream talking about it, showing stuff, but still doesn’t answer the question. Creating proper gameplay modes takes more than a built in editor made to be accessible to everyone with no designing skills.
Though if it proves to be good enough to do interesting game modes then fine by me, let’s hope it does and the multiplayer can be kept alive and fun for a long period after release.
higher DOF and HBBAO+++++ boom your GPUs are f’ed
There won’t be much difference, most console ports these days are designed to not look worlds apart from the PC version due to money and contracts getting in the way. I do love all the press EA/Ubi/id and other devs give as if they make out the PC versions to be worlds apart when really it’s them fluffing up a few tiny settings that slightly amp up shadows or lighting by a small margin, same with FPS being “unlocked” as if it’s some massive new revelation that only the big pubs have recently discovered and they market the shit out of that like it’s something hot and new.
Also the ultra settings on TNO were sh*t to a point where going down a notch actually looked better than Ultra+ a few tweaks, that was with the previous tech engine, I’m honestly not holding out for the new one after the beta impressions.
But…there are already plenty of games with the Ultra Nightmare option. They are called GameWorks titles. All you need to do is have an AMD card with HairWorks and/or Tessellation on. Its definitely a nightmare to play.
*An ULTRA nightmare to play 😉
or nvidia previous generation and you are in the very same position 🙂 With AMD at least you can change tessellation factor within the driver.
pfff… i can run crysis so nothing to worry about.
It’s called Ultra Nightmare because it will be a nightmare to run.
