DOOM – Spoilers – New Information Revealed About Visuals, Monsters, Levels & NPCs

Doomworld’s member ‘MrDope‘ has been digging into the alpha files, and has uncovered some new information about id Software’s upcoming DOOM game. Given the fact that some monsters have not been officially unveiled yet (and some maps may spoil various scenarios), we’re warning you that there might be some spoilers.

Let’s start with the game’s visuals. It appears that DOOM’s cinematic will feature higher quality effects than those rendered while playing game. As we can see below, developers are asked to use high quality mipmap generation method when generating the view color mips for cinematics, which take advantage of post effects that use the view color mips (for example: depth of field) giving a higher quality result.

The Spider Mastermind will definitely return in this new DOOM game, as well as the Archvile.

Here is the full list of new info that MrDope has provided (we’re not revealing the MP map names, though you can visit its link to find them out).

  • There’s some info about a character related to some NPC called Olivia. Maybe this is related to the crazy lady from the last Game Informer Article (the one who unleashed the demons in a sort of satanic cult thing).
  • THE SPIDER MASTERMIND/SPIDERDEMON is present
  • The same for the Archvile
  • AI and tags for the Cyberdemon
  • MP maps names
  • Some info about Marines fighting the UAC personnel (MP factions maybe?)
  • Difficulty levels, named after the originals from DOOM/DOOM 2.
  • Something about an Aqua and a Hell Marine (NPCs? Armors? Upgrades?)
  • Two new zombies, one “called” Kent and a scientist
  • The name “Zion” is present in almost every code line, maybe was the original name for the project or it’s related to the cancelled DOOM game (AKA Call of Doom).
  • A new demon called “The Prowler”
  • QUAKE gameplay references (Speed, movement, jumping, “boosts”, etc).
  • MP Weapons info (nothing new here)
  • Boss AI, tags, “CLASSIC” BOSSES (!!!)
  • Some info about The “Summoner
  • Player CUSTOMIZATION (Armor, weapons and “Kill Cards”).
