Destiny 2 will feature an in-game FPS counter and a framerate target option

Last week, Bungie announced that the overlay functionalities of third-party tools such as EVGA Precision, MSi Afterburner and FRAPS will not be compatible with Destiny 2. Naturally, this upset a lot of PC gamers, however today the team revealed that both the upcoming PC beta and the final version of Destiny 2 will feature an in-game FPS counter.

Thanks to this FPS counter, PC gamers will be able to adjust the graphics options in order to hit the 60fps sweet spot. Not only that, but Destiny 2 on PC will include the ability to specify a frame rate upper-limit (via a config file).

Bungie has also revealed that while the overlay functionalities of hardware performance monitors will not be compatible with the game, they will still be able to function in the background. As such, PC gamers will be able to benchmark the game via MSi Afterburner and EVGA Precision.

Last but not least, Bungie claimed that the upcoming open PC beta for Destiny 2 will be benefit from the console open beta that was launched in July. As such, here’s a list of the major adjustments in the PC Beta.

  • FIXED: Infinite Super Glitch
Infinite Supers are all well and good until someone loses an eye.
  • FIXED: Warlock Glide Glitch
This bug was awesome… So awesome it hurt us a little bit to kill it. Thanks to those in the console Beta who helped us track this down.
  • FIXED: Infinite Grenades Glitch
Another issue found with the help of our friends in the console Beta. (Thank you!)
  • FIXED: Warlocks now have the same Melee Range as all other classes
With the exception of where perks directly increase their range, Warlocks will punch like the rest of us. Our PC friends will get a chance to experience a world with consistent base melee ranges. So will the rest of you, when the game launches.
  • TWEAKED: Globally reduced the time it takes to charge your Super
This was a big change that came directly from your feedback during the console beta. We agree it was taking a bit too long to cook up a Super.
  • TWEAKED: Increased Grenade Damage in PvE
Increased damage helps Grenades feel as powerful as they should facing hordes of alien combatants and, more specifically, makes the longer cooldowns more palatable. We want abilities to be slightly more rare, but worth it. In the console Beta, the “worth it” part wasn’t quite there yet.
  • TWEAKED: Increased Power Ammo drops in PvE
This is something we had felt internally and have been slowly tuning up over the last several weeks. The PC beta has been updated with our new values and will provide much more Power ammo in PvE than what was found before. Power ammo can also be directly farmed from all Yellow Bar Combatants. Go big, Guardians!

  1. NO. I WANT MY AFTERBURNER.

Scratch that. Keep your game. I don’t want it. I’ll play Princee Galore 2000 instead.

    1. “Bungie has also revealed that while the overlay functionalities of hardware performance monitors will not be compatible with the game, they will still be able to function in the background. As such, PC gamers will be able to benchmark the game via MSi Afterburner and EVGA Precision.”

      1. I don’t want to Alt-Tab. Why is this an issue with and and it isn’t with a ton of other devs that are using anti cheat solutions.

It’s just dumb. As if destiny was uber competitive to begin with.

  2. Why not a IN GAME fps lock? It’s so hard to do it? Or they are so lazy?
Most people (rookies) don’t even want to touch any game files or some .ini files.
MSI Afterburner and other software overlay why will be not compatible?
Those tools are showing performance stats on every app, even on apss like vegas or premiere, another example of lazy programing from Bungie, go home you are drunk Bungie.

    1. They are trying to prevent cheating/hacking by limiting the access of outside programs. Unfortunately, hackers will still find ways around it, while legit programs like Afterburner will remain locked out.

      1. The comment console fanboys always make when yet another overhyped AAA game runs as low as 20fps on their console.

        1. I don’t play on console friend. I just think its weird PC games still try to hit 60 fps and not 120 instead.

          1. It’s called “plebeians trying to design a PC port, while acting like they’re actually making a PC native game, because they think they know what the f*ck that even means.”

I.E. We’re talking about console developers making a PC port while trying to act like it’ll be something more than that, instead of a joke.

    1. Triggered? Only triggered person here looks to be you, honestly.

If anything, Ritsuka comes across as mocking Cliffy B on his latest EPIC FAIL of a game, which he well deserves.

    2. So it’s a “triggering” now when someone posts news you don’t like?, because that’s how you are responding to said postage of news.

You do realize Cliffy has had a bad history with PC gamers right?. Not all is forgiven over a single night and release of what is now considered a multiplat game, one PC gamers funded for console first.

        1. I’m not even “pissed”, that’s you labeling me in general to suit your own view, which itself already tells me that you are in general angry with the rest of us for not sharing your view or acting like you do.

Also “lol” at the end just tells me you aren’t being serious so it just paints the picture all the better.

Another retort perhaps, a low wit comeback as well?, I know it’s coming because you’re past the point of admitting you goofed and have instead committed yourself to slagging us all off because we don’t agree with you.

          1. I’m laughing because i find you silly tbh. Why bother posting some off topic nonsense to begin with? Maybe you don’t have online friends to converse with so you need to disrupt a topic thread for attention?

What was the point in bringing up Lawbreakers in a Destiny thread?

          2. How is it silly to point out the way you are reacting to off topic news?. It’s literally me standing there pointing out that you clearly dislike the other person talking about an off topic piece of news and labeling the guy as such. Then you proceeded to label me when I pointed out what you were doing.

I have online friends as well as friends around where I live. I’m not short of friends and strangers alike to talk to. I’m not sure what that even has to do with the discussion on why you disliked another user posting other news in a different article for us to talk about or at least gather knowledge from knowing it’s existence.

What was the point of you going further off topic and having to belittle and label people?, what does any of that have to do with lawbreakers news?.

Also the site has no strict rules against posting other news in a different comments section.

          3. No i’m laughing at you going all off topic like a triggered kid. I honestly have no opinion when it comes to lawbreakers. Not interested in mp only games.

          4. Not really, you went with “So triggered you need to post some off topic BS… lol Where did Cliffy touch you?”, which isn’t really in the jesting kind of way , more like making an example out of someone.

You are still tied to the whole “off topic” part, yet the site still has no rules against posting memes or anything non related in the comments section.

Also when you use “kid” when you don’t even know who I am let alone my age, so to use “kid” means you know nothing and would rather take the piss out of anyone pointing anything out to you that you dislike.

You have no opinion, yet you clearly do when it comes to someone posting news.

            Another retort perhaps?.

          5. Trolling some snowflake like you that has to rage off topic was more than enough. i couldn’t care less about lawbreakers lol. I have you going so bad you feel you are actually winning an argument. You really need some friends, go outside, dont get so upset over gaming.

          6. “I have you going so bad you feel you are actually winning an argument.”

            Here, let me fix that for you;

“I have myself going so bad, I feel I am actually winning this argument, instead of making myself look like a total prat!”

(The “I” there being you, in case you couldn’t figure that one out, btw)

          7. “some snowflake like you”.

Oh that’s rich and adorable at the same time./ See this is you getting easily wound up now, that you have to resort to petty low wit insults and spend the rest of our time ripping into someone, rather than talking about how you were getting angry at someone talking about a different topic.

You seem to greatly care about the whole “off topic” part within the comments section a great deal at that. If you never truly cared, you wouldn’t be wasting time tossing insults and talking at all, but you really do care, so you prove my point.

“winning”?, oh is that what you think is going on here?, that’s quite hilarious how you want to “win” at something you’ve clearly wasted more time on than me. All I have to do is simply step back and point out to others that you’re acting like a child who refuses to admit they goofed at something.

I have friends mate, you completely ignored what I said before, so it seems you can’t read properly either. I have friends on here, friends irl, friends on all sorts of game clients and gaming communities. I likely have more friends than you’ll ever hope to have.

I have no issues replying to you, a random on the internet wasting his own time acting like someone who doesn’t like being called out on something so insignificant and small. You greatly dislike this back and forth, which has you resorting to petty low wit insults, and it shows.

  3. To this day I still can’t figure out why Amd and Nvidia doesn’t have a frame limiter built in to their software

  4. So their PR is trumpeting the game having a feature (fps counter) that would otherwise be included by default if they’d bothered to release it on Steam. gg

“Destiny 2 on PC will include the ability to specify a frame rate upper-limit (via a config file)”
Oh dear. They’ve made boastful claims of them ‘getting’ PC gaming including the claimed “ton of work” they’ve done on it and yet they can’t be bothered to include that basic feature in the game’s graphics options menu and instead are making us have to mess about manually editing an ini file for their premium priced product.

    1. “So their PR is trumpeting the game having a feature (fps counter) that would otherwise be included by default if they’d bothered to release it on Steam. gg”

      Remember their trumpeting around proper m/k support & “no different recoil on PC”? They think this sh*t sells, it’s like being back in 2010;

“Oh yeah, we’re giving PC Gamers High-Def Textures, so buy our game! 😀 😀 :D”

      1. My guess is that Bungie are so ingrained in a culture of being able to tell the dimwitted console fanboys anything and having them lapping it up regardless that they don’t know how to act any different. They appear to believe that PC gamers can be treated the same and that we’ll also swallow everything they tell us no matter what. I have news for them!

        To recap,

        – May: confirmation that game will use a combo of peer-to-peer and dedicated servers
        – June: no-recoil fiasco, later amended to ‘heavily modified recoil’ on PC
        – July: PC beta delayed despite earlier assurance of them doing “a ton of work” on PC version
        – August: confirmation that several commonly used third-party utilities will be barred
        – August: confirmation that PC gamers may need to manually edit an .ini file to tailor performance because it was too much effort for Bungie to include a decent options menu

        1. Here’s two more for you;

          – March: Confirmation that Bungie has their heads up their bungholes.
          – September 6, 2017: absolute final confirmation that Bungie is just a f*cking joke, now.

          A$$clowns.

          1. Whenever I see the word “bunghole” I can’t not think of the Beavis & Butthead movie!

  5. Cliffy B is the a**hat who constantly attacks PC gamers for being
thieves simply because his garbage games have intrusive DRM and are
    hosted on crap platforms

  6. “Most people (rookies) don’t even want to touch any game files or some .ini files.”

They should stick to consoles then. Reading a bunch of guides online and tampering with them is childs play.

  7. ” Not only that, but Destiny 2 on PC will include the ability to specify a frame rate upper-limit (via a config file).”

But why via the config file?, why can’t I get that option within the game’s menu system?. It just seems like they are half cutting the job and not going all the way with it.

Also those fixes are glitches. I care about actual performance gains. No good to me if the game runs like crap on my system.

  8. He got what he deserved for the last minute groveling back to PC, only to get them to fund for a multiplat game that features micro trans.

Micro trans in paid games is a scummy practice.

  9. That moment when you think you just proved your intellectual superiority by being a smart*ss, when in fact you just provided ample proof of your pathetic immaturity 🙁

Not to mention the use of boring old stereotypes. At least try to put in some effort, maybe?
