Electronic Arts has released a 90-minute free trial for the PC version of Dead Space Remake on Steam. From today until May 29th, PC gamers can download this free trial and get a taste of this third-person horror game.
From what I know, this free trial is based on the game’s latest version. Thus, it will give you a pretty good idea of how the game performs on your PC system.
Now as I wrote in my PC Performance Analysis, the prologue scene is one of the most demanding ones. Moreover, there are areas at the end of the game that perform similarly to it. So, if your PC system can run the prologue smoothly, you’ll be fine for the rest of the game.
Dead Space Remake was suffering from traversal stutters when it launched. And, unfortunately, EA Motive has not reduced them. EA released Dead Space Remake in January 2023 so I don’t expect any future patches to significantly reduce these traversal stutters.

You should check the SteamDB chart for this game, it’s embarrasing. They were having a 24hr peak of thess than 400 players.

How to play EA Games that you mistakenly think might actually be worth playing. Wait until they hit the 5 dollar a month service on Steam, because by then their broken releases might work well enough or mods will exist to make then passable, play game within a month, delete game and any trash overlay they forced you to use and easily remove service in Steam. Repeat every 2-3 years.

One of the major problems with DRM is that it automatically assumed that everyone is a criminal. You get treated like a criminal even though you paid for it. It actually affects the parking customer the most. One of my boxes wish is for the internet or steam to go down for 1 week. Like that PSN network did. Then you will see just how bad DRM can be. That Ray Tracing is a 50-70K dollar tech and no way a measily little GPU from and off these manufactures is going to get the job done. What they will do is doesn’t the next 10-15 years trying to get you back to constant 60-120 FPS with full Ray Tracing on, at whatever resolution is popular for the times. I don’t even know how people play 60fps anymore. We Will just be frame chasing all over again. Trying to get that smoothness back. Which will have you buying hardware every 2-4 years just to keep up. This is embarrassing how people fall for this stuff. All in the name “progress”.

The first 13 mins of my trial were wasted with all the sign in/sign up/security nonsense. Then after a further 30 mins it crashed to desktop. The fix is to cap at 120 fps apparently… Junk.
Played it for the lulz, running at 144 fps capped no prob with measly 4070. Aside from loading new areas aka traversal stutters.

Dead Space is a real classic and I remember how shocked I was when I played it in 2008 not really expecting it to be as good as it was. This is the reason why I bought the remake. I think the timing is what really affected sales here as this title was overshadowed by bigger and more anticipated releases such as Hogwarts Legacy and The Last of Us (which no one would have expected to be such a disappointment). So now they are trying to get more people interested in the game with this trial.
I tried the trial. I was expecting my 2080 to be destroyed after reading the initial benchmarks. But it run at locked 60 at 4K Ultra + DLSS performance. But it is not all good news, traversal stuttering is still there and its very distracting.
All in all, I liked the trial, I might play it at some point with EA pro. It worths the $15
