Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night delayed to first half of 2018

Koji Igarashi has announced that Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night has been delayed to first half of 2018. According to a Kickstarter update, Igarashi decided to delay the game in order to ensure that it meets his quality standards.

As Igarashi claimed:

“The last thing I want to do is keep our backers waiting, but after receiving such incredible support, I feel responsible for delivering the best product I possibly can. Again, I offer my sincerest apologies.”

We are pretty sure that the reception of Mighty No.9 is also one of the reasons why this game has been delayed. After all, Mighty No.9 was meant to be the “new big thing from the man behind Mega Man” and ended up a mediocre platformer. And Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night is the next big thing from the man behind Castlevania. See the similarities?

Anyway, it will be interesting to see whether Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night will be able to top Castlevania.

  1. kinda sucks but id rather have a game come out late and better for it then rushed and be unfinished/unpolished. had my eye on this one since the kickstarter was announced

    1. If only that was true, Kicktarter is an abomination, Early Access is even worse, because they are run for their benefit, not the projects.
I will only back fully funded, and only direct to the devs.
I expect 100% of my money spent on the project.

Kickstarter, and Valve, take a cut, before the project starts, and I didn’t back either of them.
Kickstarter’s 30 day fundraising deadline, is a huge problem, incentivising low startup targets, just to get the project going.

I expect a startup target to be accurate, with no deadline to achieve it, if I back it, I’ll fund it when the target is reached.

Crowdfunding is great, but it doesn’t need these leeches feeding off it.
Direct funding, with 100% of my money, going to the project, is the only way to go, and it must be fully crowdfunded.

  2. I didn’t back this project, but have backes many others, and have never understood why backers would be disappointed, that a proposed and arbitrary release date is missed.

I will only back fully crowdfunded projects, I’m not taking the risk for a publisher’s benefit, and lose the money the moment I give it, I never expect them to produce a great game, just that the devs will spend all the money trying their best to make one.

I back projects because I want the great game, and to get it, it must be done right, not fast, if that means it takes more time, and deadlines are missed, that’s actually a good thing, not a bad one.

Publisher’s ruin many games by forcing release on a schedule that ignores the state of the game, and most never recover from that idiocy. They don’t care, they’ve got your money.

Fully crowdfunded games, have no pressure from investors (Backers), because the rewards they get are their profit, and they don’t rely on sales. In fact the crowdfunding is successful, when backers get the rewards, no sales are required for that.

The game will usually be better, on release, if more time is spent, before that point.
Crap games are usually rushed, great games take time to make.
Give me the game when it’s finished, not before, delays are usually an indication the game isn’t finished, so why would you want it unfinished.
