During a presentation at Gamescom 2018, DICE’s developers confirmed that Battlefield 5 was running with rock solid 60fps at 1080p with NVIDIA’s real-time ray tracing features enabled. This is perhaps the first game that runs at 60fps with NVIDIA’s real-time ray tracing effects as Shadow of the Tomb Raider had major performance issues and Metro Exodus targets 1080p/60fps for its final release.
As Christian Holmquist, technical director at DICE, and Jonas Gammelholm, media editor at DICE, said:
“And we also saw some questions on the Internet before, reading some comments saying that ‘we are confused, the demo is running in slow-motion so how the game is running in real-time?’ And we are of course… it’s all fine. It’s 60fps, it’s rock solid.”
Later on, the developers said that they are positive that they can get Battlefield 5 with real-time ray tracing to feel super consistent at all times for the player.

how many ray tracing articles are you going to publish, just to fill your quota, seriously ??
this has become an obsession for you @john….no offense tho.
you have been flooding articles on this over-hyped rtx technology too much.
think, how may gamers might be able to actually afford the RTX 2070, RTX 2080 and RTX 2080Ti ????
that’s an old post, dated 22nd August 2018
Waaah
John is a simple man, it’s either this or fallout mods.
Jen-Hsun would say: More you buy, more you save!
1080p though.. Can’t go back to 1080p once you’ve been on 1440p or better.
AMEN!.
Actually it was easy for me.
1440p 165hz > 4k 60hz
My 4k panel is back in box under the bed.
Those new 4k 144hz panels will get me back but I am not sure how healthy my kidneys are, Might still need both!
Yea people over rate 4k and under estimate 144hz+ smoothness (provided you can max it)
Yeah 120-144hz wins hands down over resolution…..
I made sure to mention 4K 🙂
I am at 4K so do i need 4 RTX 2080 Ti or simply disable ray tracing and enjoy 4K 60 with my mighty Asus Strix GTX 1080 Ti oc ?

Pretty funny.
All funny but the best was posted by Tomas Sipos here on DSOG.
where dat ? That one is quite funny ma man.

lol
If you look real close you can see the ROCK SOLID 60 fps.
LMAO DUDE this is hilarious!
The internet is like a party with a massive amount of buddies… There is always one to deliver the perfect meme and make everyone laugh!
… and there are those boring hipsters in the corner ruining the mood for everyone as well 😀
all these tech with no games. it can’t even play god of war nor last of us.
Yo, you realize those games are not for PC right? Although RPCS3 is trying to get us there.
No games? What? Last of Us has some terrible gameplay, and I’d argue God of War doesn’t have the best gameplay, either. I’d take DMC 4 any day over that.
So they expect me to go from 1440p/120+ to 1080p/60 now? Should i throw out my 144hz monitor while im at it Nvidia?
like everyone said, don’t pre-order $hite, wait for the official benchmarks
who knows, the RTX could be just a meme, a worthless gimmick series
if they use a 1080P benchmark instead of a 4K…
Oh well. Guess next gen will have DOUBLE DEEP LEARNING RTX SENPAI FOOFOO 99584X FASTER. Andddd i’ll also buy it. Why do i love having the best gpu around ?….
$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$
It seems people have lost the ability to like richer graphics over rate-rate and resolution, people would rather have fake effects, complain about how bad it looks and keep their higher resolution. I’d rather have a lower resolution like with VR but the immersion you get with VR destroys a flat panel when you play something like Project Cars, it’s not even close. I don’t know why people complain, with the RX 2000 series you can have both anyway, enjoy the benefits of Ray Tracing or resolution, your choice.
What? And who gave you up votes? Lol
To be fair, Raytraced shadows are harder on performance compared to raytraced reflections
Shadows if i’m not mistake are one of the most demanding task for a gpu and i don’t know why!
Well it’s because constructing the shadow map for a mesh is hard. When you render shadows in a game engine, the renderer basically has to draw the scene twice. One pass for the shadow maps using the fragment shader, and then one pass during the regular render using the vertex shader where the position of the vertex is compared to the shadow map.
This means that you have to draw the scene once for each light source (to render each shadow maps) so the performance reduces proportional to the amount of shadow casting lights. Obviously this is a naive implementation and it can be optimized heavily, but it’s still quite hard. And when raytracing, it’s even harder.
Oh i thought Raytracing was harder ron hardware but easier to « code » ? Since it was more « native »
Easier to code as in easy to write the code itself. The code will still run slow whether you are raytracing or rasterizing because the theory is still hard.
Thanks dude! So eventually, since RT is easier to work with and much more lifelike, devs are going to optimize it even further and add to that new gpus 3-4 years down the road well end up with RT on 2k/4k at 144fps.
Real-time ray tracing for expertly lit soy.
Yes people, it takes time for technology to grow. The fact that it runs at 60 fps at all is absolutely incredible.
I love how they push 2k and 4k on us for years, and we’ve been slowly getting more power out of our GPU’s to achieve games in 4k with max settings. Then RTX comes out and they expect us to play our games in 1080p again. Too soon Nvidia, too soon.
Lol, my GTX1080 lags in Battlefield 3/4 and even World of Warcraft. I literally get drops to 35-45 fps. Like often, not even rare. I should have waited for the RTX cards or whtever they are called. The 1070/80 are kind of meh. (i got the 1070 too on my 2 computer)
I guess cuz i play on 1440p.. Why do i even keep expecting to run games at solid 60+.. Heck, i have to play games at med/high and some settings on LOW just to hit the 60 fps..
Not to mention my monitor is 144 hz.. ouch, i cant even hit a solid 60… ON OLD games. Its not even 2018 games ffs. Yea, CS GO runs at 50000 fps, i know. Diablo 3 however, a what.. 5-15 year old game runs at 45-65. Meh. Last gen CPU too, so its not tooooooo old.
P.s. I know i know, but its the numbers all my friends (and me) get. I dont know about the 1080TI, but i would never ever get that, bloody waste of money, considering how cards come and go every year. I might aswell wait for the 2019 card that people ALREADY talk about.
What CPU do you have? Specifically. Also what RAM at what speed? It sounds like there may just be something messed up in your system.
Starting to wonder too, i got a Intel i5-4460 on my 1080 and one lower tier on my 1070. Its not the newest but still pretty good. Only 8 gigs of ram, but that never hits the limit, i close all apps when i game.
Your CPU is 4 gens behind what’s current. There’s your issue. My 1700 was bottlenecking my 1080ti. Now that I have a 2700x, I have great performance.
Guess I’ll have to upgrade l. Too bad it will require a new board
Could get the 2600x and a b450 mobo pretty cheap, probably
I’m running a 3770k and GTX 1080. Runs like a champ. Most everything runs at 1440/1620p@60 (or 1700/1800p :)), if I can’t hit 4k@60.I’ll have to run some BF4 benches.
I was just checking a few CPU’s, yep.. prices are not bad and the 2600/700 are being sold here too. Just need to find a good mobo.
He could also have some messed up RAM. Stuff can really mess up your system if something is wrong
Something isn’t right there, I am still on 980ti’s and run 1440p 165hz rog swift, Still get a constant 60fps in most games even when sli isn’t supported.
Your 1080 should have no problem at 1440p 60fps
But it does, and my 1070 on my second computer does too. Thats better than 980 right? I gotta check about the Ti version, but i guess those 2 cards are also similar.
When i play on the 1080, i have to lower the gfx or big fights with 64 people make me lag and go under 50 fps. Its really annoying so i just play on low, to keep hitting 55-90 fps. It goes up and down all the time, i cant get a solid stable fps on any option. I wonder what is the reason? That happens in a lot of games with both cards.
I’m just installing it, because it seems fishy.. but i never questioned it cuz 1440p is kind of higher res. I will check with my 1080p monitor, to see if the fps jumps way higher or its another kind of problem. Its curious for sure.
Happens on 2 computers too, with 1070 on the second.. Hm.
Actually good idea, I’ll lower the ress. I think I did that a while ago and I was having around 100
Nvidia wants us chasing another carrot after reaching 4k already.
People complaining about this make no sense. Just disable it and enjoy 20%(?) performance increase over 1080ti. Or don’t upgrade if you are not ready. This is only the beginning and eventually when this technology matures you will see it on console ETC… This is a great testing grounds for new ideas and tech, don’t forget that to achieve ray tracing with standard conventions: IE raw power it will take a long time. How about we rejoice that something new is out and people can finally say “but can it do BF5 w/ RT?”.
2080ti will be a lot more then 20%… More like 50-60%.. A RTX2080 will be 10-15% faster then the 1080ti…
I don’t think so : if it was the case Nvidia won’t be silent as it is now about RTX 20XX gaming performance and not only ray tracing capabilities
Well if we look at nvidia’s slide with DLSS 2080ti is twice as fast as 1080 so it would be around 70% faster than 1080ti which is quite impressive (WITH DLSS) But that’s nvidia’s marketing! We shall wait and see third party reviewer in due time.
Historically, advancements in tech were always almost forbiddingly expensive, and its rewards for early adopters often questionable.
‘Gamers’ want 4K 144hz with RTX for under $500 on upcoming AAA titles today. It ain’t happening yet.
Let’s redo this sentence, Nvidia wants early adopter to buy a new tech that is not ready for their audience, Nvidia is forcing this tech on consumer cards so the imperfect chips have somewhere to go, diminish the total costs, since in the professional world it will be revolutionary indeed.
Try again: new tech isn’t all that well optimized (as usual), and the company wants consumers to buy it (big surprise!). But no one’s ‘forcing’ anything, though, as with Gameworks, you can turn it off.
Well he means price/chip wise. If there would be a 2080ti WITHOUT Ray tracing then it wouldn’t be forced but now you gotta pay the Ray trace premium and you’re bound to have it on your gpu if you want a RTX product. And you’re doomed because you want the card that performs the most and that the RTX. No other choice to buy it.
Mind you, i’ll buy it lmao, i’m not trashing. It’s just very expensive that’s all.
RTX gimmick aside, apparently you still get a substantial increase in performance compared to the 1000 series, something I honestly though it wouldn’t happen. Does that justify the price? People can always vote with their wallets.
If we look at preorders i believe people are quote happy to give their money without actually knowing the % of difference from last gen. ALSO, i’d like more info on DLSS a feature that boosts SO MUCH the fps that it has to have a drawbaxk somewhere!
Don’t need to try again, the problem is on nvidia offert and princing, not on consumers as you wanted to be. Defend you company as you want, i’m here just to let the low iq be sure they are doing it wrong
“Defend your company”, now that’s rich.
If you don’t like the pricing you can always go for the 1000 series or buy AMD.
Sheep
Nice argument there. Figures.
Seems a very effecctive description.
lol
I assume they were prpbly using a 2080ti.
Impressive considering the fact it`s using both RTX and SJW.
Rock solid 144 FPS @ 720P !!
My God, there is no stopping them !!
Yeesh so they released a 1080p card brilliant Nvidia… Well I will see you guys 30xx series when you get raytracing up to 1440p 60+ fps -_-
