Electronic Arts and Respawn Entertainment launched today Apex Legends, a free-to-play battle royale shooter available right now on Origin for PC. Set in the Titanfall universe, Apex Legends aims to shake up the battle royale genre with a cast of unique characters, squad-based gameplay, innovative mechanics and more.
Apex Legends promises to deliver a squad-based battle royale experience with a uniquely Respawn flavor. Players will select from one of eight Legends – each with their own unique abilities and playstyles – and the last team standing wins. Combatants can choose from unique characters like Bloodhound, the tracker who can see recent enemy activity on the map, or Lifeline, a battlefield medic who can shield teammates and bring them back from the brink of death. Balanced squads and teamwork are critical, as each Legend is easy to pick up and learn, but challenging to master.
Drew McCoy, Lead Producer for Apex Legends, said:
“Our goal in every game you play is that you come in with a plan but you leave with a story. We’re building a game that is not only going to deliver a fun and memorable experience at launch, but something we can keep growing for a long time to come.”
As the press release reads, Apex Legends showcases several new genre-leading innovations, starting before players even start the match. Once players are ready to begin, they’ll choose their drop point with the Jumpmaster system, giving each squad full control over exactly where they drop in. Is it smarter to head straight for the most valuable loot and risk early conflict with other teams, or make for one of the outlying areas to plot an attack and let other squads pick each other off?
Apex Legends also delivers Respawn Beacons, one-time use locations where defeated teammates can be revived, a contextual Ping communication system that allows players to call out enemies, weapons, locations and more with the push of a button, and an intelligent inventory system which automatically attaches gear and equipment to the appropriate weapons once players pick them up. All together it creates a battle royale experience unlike any other, complete with Respawn’s commitment to top-notch quality and fun.

Looks like EA wants some more Battle Royale money.
Right, this and BFV’s mode.. It’s interesting to see the competition at work, but BR games only hold my attention for so long.
Hmm, that art style of seemingly a mash-up of Fortnite and Borderlands is, erm, predictable for the battle royale genre. They presumably made the graphics simplistic so to work well on consoles and also for it to be ported fairly easily to mobile including Switch.
Downloading it now. Not expecting much but hopefully the gameplay will retain some of the feel of Titanfall if nothing else. I dread to imagine how EA have made EA Respawn monetise the in-game economy…
Wouldn’t expect you to try such game honestly.
I only gave it a go due to hoping it’d have some of the Titanfall fun. I just played a couple of rounds and will be uninstalling it soon! I didn’t notice anything about the gameplay that connected it to Titanfall in a meaningful way. For instance, the parkour wall-running is completely absent and there’s no double-jump either. At least not with the two characters I chose.
On the plus side, it was quick and easy to join a game and performance was seemingly pretty good. The visuals looked pretty decent for the genre. The graphics settings menu was more extensive than I’d anticipated.
Oh, I just viewed the pricing on Origin for the ‘Apex Coins’. Oh dear. They’re offering a coins pack for £79.99 ($104.51 at current rates).
Alright but in my opinion you just wasted time even by just trying it.
Agreed!
On a brighter note, I recently downloaded some nice Mafia 2 mods for textures and other things so are looking forward to revisiting that game soon.
Good stuff.
Just played it, the gameplay is awful and the TTK is humongous with everyone being a huge bulletsponge.
It’s so bad shotguns at point blank take like 30 health from someone without armor.
Gameplay consists of running around with 2 other people collecting loot you don’t even give a sh*t about until you find something better and then finding someone to kill in the spawn of 5 minutes.
It also has tons of connection issues with many people being stuck at the loading screen much like Anthem (myself included) and some technical issues like not letting you go above native resolution.
That’s besides all the questionable art design and removal of Titanfall 2 movement system for no reason despite the maps being designed around it.
What a shitshow
Yep, when I saw the hype about it featuring squad-based gameplay set in the Titanfall universe it seemed promising. Then I discovered when playing it that those squads were merely three-player ‘teams’ and that they’d stripped out parkour, i.e. one of Titanfall’s most fun and key defining features. Oh dear. Uninstalled!
I’m thinking of giving it a shot, given only that it’s free. if they go insane with the MT’s, I’ll likely drop it.
How an i dislike this 100 times?
Wher the mechs at?
Wonder when this craze will stop.
Ehhh
I’d hardly call installing EA’s spy/malware as “free” really. There’s always a catch. In this case, it’s EA.
You got me, man. Damn, I never knew people could be so clever.
Nothing special,just data mining.Like others do. 😉
Its usual stuff since 2015,they grab your data and sell it,the player just blowing in the wind and get nothing.
They got that when EA bought them out.
Bad character designs aside, I’m watching Shroud play the game and it seems very solid. The map is gigantic, everything looks good, performance is *not bad* (impossible to tell, streamers like Shroud always use the best hardware available), barely any bugs so far. No crashes. I’m not into BR games or shooters where everything is hitscan (although there is bullet drop) but I might still try it out because it seems really well-made. Plus, the release method of keeping it secret until three days before launch and then having the first gameplay showing being the official release – that’s exactly how games should launch. I hope it’s a huge success so more games do it like this.
Well with the hunt showdown it feels like the best battle royal, but no titans and wallrunning is a tad disappointing, but i can understand it would had hurt the balance, besides its called apex legends not titanfall…
Awesome, another Battle Royale. Pew pew pew?
Why would anyone play this?
Why even remove wallrunning?
I can’t wait til developers realise there’s more than one way to do large scale PvP. I’d jump on board in a heartbeat if this had Battlefield Conquest or Team Deathmatch modes, or god forbid, something original.
I better playing some anime girl ti*ts than this…
I better play some anime girl t*ts than this…
More Walmart apps. All the paid streamers pretending to be “a gamer just like you, chat” doing their jobs and shillin on twitch right now.
It really is disgusting how many opportunistic a**holes there are on that platform.
Most of them are as soulless as the games and publishers they defend.

Will this damage Epic as a competitor to Fortnite?
Hope so..
so much cringe in those trailers
