The Legend of Zelda Tears of the Kingdom feature

You can now play The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom with a classic top-down camera mode

Modder “MaxLastBreath” has released a new version of his UltraCam Mod for The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. This update adds a classic top-down camera, allowing you to play the game like the old-school NES and SNES Zelda titles. So, if you are an old-school Zelda fan, you should definitely check it out.

Going into more details, this top-down camera was massively inspired by TLOZ Link’s Awakening and Echoes of Wisdom. What’s also cool is that UltraCam currently supports multiple camera modes to make a lot of the different game scenarios playable.

To showcase this new top-down camera, the modder shared the following video. This video will give you an idea of what you can expect from it. So, be sure to watch it.

As you will see, you can rotate the camera with the snap-camera rotation mode. This is a quick way to rotate the camera. However, the modder has also added a smooth rotation mode. So, if you want a smoother rotation, you can use that one.

To my surprise, the game works great and is really fun to play with the new top-down camera mode. Honestly, it looks so good that many people might think it’s an official mode. So, kudos to the modder for creating something this awesome.

UltraCam will also unlock the game’s framerate. As such, PC gamers can enjoy Tears of the Kingdom with 60FPS on PC. Moreover, it optimizes the physics to run effectively at higher frame rates. On top of that, it allows you to increase the internal resolution. Thus, you can enjoy the game at 8K.

You can go ahead and download the latest version of the UltraCam mod from this link.

I also recommend using this 4K Texture Pack for The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. This mod will upgrade all of the game’s textures. So, it’s a must for everyone who wants to make the game look a bit sharper.

Enjoy and stay tuned for more!

      1. Other than the fact that the main point of the game is exploration, and you can't see anything beyond a few metres away… yeah, completely playable.

        1. So uh, you never played echoes of wisdom or link's awakening? When both game's entire point is also EXPLORATION, while using the same camera angle?

          1. Those games were built around the top down, this isn't. It's nice to be able to swap to here and there like when gliding or descending a cliff.. or something like the labyrinth location, but not for full time.

      1. Um. Sure. I "completed" the game on emulator shortly after release (I also bought a physical copy). This mod completely destroys the ability to see things/explore what you (don't see).

    1. More like looks worse than +20 year old graphics.

No kidding, this literally looks worse than 2005 games:

And even looks worse than literally 2004 games:

Modern Je󠀀wte󠀀ndo gaymes are basically $70-$80 licenses for mobile trash fests that look worse than +20 year old games.

Imagine being so e󠀀x󠀀tre󠀀mely re󠀀tar󠀀ded and br󠀀ain de󠀀ad to pay $70-$80 for licenses to these mobile trash fests that they could take away from you with just a press of a button just like the dictators they are, and on top of that deluding yourself that they are "masterpieces of games!" because you have an I󠀀Q of a pRed󠀀ditor (and that is 0 IQ) because you are so re󠀀ta󠀀rded to listen to what ga󠀀yme journ󠀀alists like what the so󠀀yboys at (((IGN))) spew.

      1. amazing isnt it? Everything has gone backwards, just now indie devs can make games that look like 90s pc games and worse.

        1. "Everything has gone backwards"

That's exactly what happens when you fire all of your talented and highly motivated white/Asian employees from your company and replace them with du󠀀mb, tal󠀀entless pi󠀀nk-ha󠀀ired t󠀀ran󠀀ny monkeys who openly hate video games and even hate Y󠀀OU the player and want to gr󠀀oo󠀀m yo󠀀ur chil󠀀dren in exchange for some s󠀀he󠀀kels just to app󠀀ea󠀀se your JuDEIst investors.

It's no surprise at all that everything goes backwards despite having literally the resources of the entire planet, because that's what these barbaric, backward, uncivilized, u󠀀g󠀀ly and di󠀀sgu󠀀sting pink-haired tr󠀀an󠀀ny monkeys and ch󠀀ild mo󠀀les󠀀ters really are in their truly reality who literally want to take us back to the stone age because they still question "HOW MANY GENDERS ARE THERE??? BUT ONE THING FOR SURE IS THAT THERE ARE MORE THAN 2 GENDERS!!!" even in 2025.

    2. It basically is. Look at the Switch 1 hardware, but looks even more basic when you can't see any of the world due to this view point.

  1. Ah yes, the $70 DLC to the overrated "Zelda in name only" that erased everything that made people love the Zelda series in the first place that only low I󠀀Q f󠀀ag󠀀go󠀀ts and so󠀀yb󠀀o󠀀ys like those on (((Re󠀀dd󠀀it))) delude themselves into "enjoying" P󠀀O󠀀S like this.

    1. look carefully, the camera has multiple modes, there's a complete topdown view for housing for example, this is slightly at an angle like:
      Link's Awakening
      Echoes of Wisdom
      Don't Starve Together
      other games.

The video specifically mentions the camera is inspired by Link's awakening/Echoes of wisdom.

      1. That's great that it's like games such as echoes of wisdom and the critically acclaimed 'Other games' that does not make it top down though.
