Left 4 Dead 2 RTX Remix-2

Left 4 Dead 2 RTX Remix Path Tracing Mod Released

Left 4 Dead 2 fans, here is something special for you today. Modder ‘xoxor4d’ released a mod that allows you to play this classic FPS game with RTX Remix Path Tracing.

Do note that this is a compatibility mod. As such, it just makes Left 4 Dead 2 compatible with RTX Remix. It does not add new high-quality assets. And despite that, the game already looks great with it.

But what can you expect from this RTX Remix Mod? Well, right now, most things are rendered using the fixed-function pipeline. And, like most RTX Remix Mods, it does allow you to enjoy the game with Path Tracing. Still, it’s not perfect. Right now, it does not have any PBR textures. Plus, you might encounter some small visual bugs.

You can download the mod from this link. At the end of the article, you can also find a video for it. Thus, I highly recommend watching it. After all, it can give you a pretty good idea of what it brings to the table.

In 2024, we shared a lot of RTX Remix Mods for various games. In January 2023, we shared several RTX Remix Mods that are in the works. Speaking of Path Tracing Mods for older titles, you might also want to check out the following ones. Modders released demos for their Path Tracing Mods for Deus ExTomb Raider, and Call of Duty 4. Do note that the COD4 Mod is a “proof of concept” demo, and it does not look that great. Let’s also not forget the RTX Remix for COD: WoW. And then we have the RTX Remix Mods for PainkillerNFS: UndergroundUnderground 2. Oh, and don’t forget to give a go at this RTX Remix for Unreal Tournament 2004. 1. Yet another example of an RTX game tanking frame rate while making little to no positive difference in terms of visuals.

      1. I both read it and watched the video, I'm purely referring to the lighting which is the main focus of RTX Remix in the first place.
I couldn't care less about any ugly texture/model swaps that some random amateur decides to slap on afterwards.

        1. Left 4 dead uses baked lighting which is practically ray tracing, thats why there isn’t much difference

The main purpose of rtx remix is the ability to remaster a game, it does make a huge difference to the visuals

          1. There's a ReShade shader for that…

Anyway, I can play all sorts of 3D games on my RTX 3070 Ti. I've been playing Cyberpunk 2077 daily here recently, at native 1440p, without raytraced FPS killer garbage.

          2. The last time I checked more gamers still have GTX 1060's than RTX 3070's. Games should be developed for the least common denominator in terms of hardware. That's why they have "Low" settings for lower end systems, and "High" settings for higher end systems. Raytracing doesn't even work on GTX cards, unless you do software raytracing, which runs like crap.

But even if I had an RTX 5090 in my system right now, I wouldn't care for raytracing at all. It's worthless tech that requires temporal frame accumulation and jittering in order to work, and generally requires upscaling in order to be playable even on latest high end hardware. I hate TAA and temporal upscalers, therefore I hate raytracing. It's not hard to understand the logic here. This isn't a matter of "I don't have the latest and greatest hardware", this is a matter of "the tech legitimately sucks and I don't want it".

  2. i dont care about the remix mod but after watching this i remembered what a gem the source engine was, the interactivity, clarity while everything feels grounded at the same time. we really went backward qualitywise in video games.
