IO Interactive has just released MindsEye on PC. There is a lot of controversy surrounding this game, but we can confirm that this is a real game. The game uses Unreal Engine 5, and it supports NVIDIA DLSS 4 (with Multi-Frame Gen) from the get-go. So, let’s see how it runs on the PC.
For these initial benchmarks, I used an AMD Ryzen 9 7950X3D, 32GB of DDR5 at 6000Mhz and an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5090 Founder’s Edition. I also used Windows 10 64-bit and the NVIDIA GeForce 576.66 driver.
MindsEye does not have a built-in benchmark tool. So, for these initial tests, I used the game’s starting area. That’s because I know some of you will want to know immediately how the game runs. For our upcoming PC Performance Analysis, I’ll try to find a more demanding area.
Let’s start with some good news. Once you launch the game, there will be a shader compilation step. As such, the game won’t have any shader compilation stutters.
However, there are major stuttering issues when driving. In the first ten minutes, which I showcase in the video, you don’t get to drive a car. Later on, you get the opportunity to drive a buggy. And… man… things are not that great while driving.
In terms of raw performance, MindsEye runs with a minimum of 37FPS and an average of 45FPS at Native 4K on Epic Settings. With DLSS 4 Performance, we were able to get to 65FPS. However, there were frequent drops to 53FPS. So, I wouldn’t call the overall experience smooth or ideal. To get framerates above 60FPS at all times at 4K/Epic, you’ll need to use DLSS Performance. On an NVIDIA RTX 5090. Ouch.
As I said, MindsEye supports DLSS 4 Multi-Frame Gen from the get-go. Sadly, though, there are MAJOR visual artifacts with MFG X4. Here is a screenshot in which I was moving the camera quickly. Just look at the image. It looks horrendous.
And that’s not all. Even without DLSS or Frame Gen, the game suffers from some ghosting issues. You can see these issues in the video below. This is the first time I’ve seen something like that. So, even without DLSS or Frame Gen, you’ll still get ghosting artifacts.
When it comes to the DLSS 4 performance, MindsEye runs with a minimum of 85FPS and an average of 115FPS at 4K/Epic with DLSS Quality and MFG X2. With X3, our average framerate increases to 168FPS. However, the minimum framerate is only at 102FPS. Similar things occur with MFG X4.
In all honesty, the game has major optimization issues. What’s funny is that at least on PC, you can brute-force your way with DLSS/FSR and Frame Gen. I mean, at least you can get a 60FPS experience. Because, right now, things are WAY worse on consoles. In my opinion, the best way to play the game if you have an RTX 5090 is with DLSS Quality and MFG X2. Using MFG X3 or X4 is out of the question due to the extreme visual artifacts when moving the camera.
Our PC Performance Analysis for MindsEye will go live later this week. In this upcoming article, we’ll test multiple GPUs from both AMD and NVIDIA. So, stay tuned for more!

UE5 = 💩💩

dont you love how new graphics engines run like crap so much that you have to use all kind of band aid trickery that make everything look so blurry? Its like that guy who said that games looked better 10 years ago. He is right.
Games did not look better 10 years ago. If you think they did, you should see an eye doctor.
Also, still waiting on his game that will put to shame all the other engines, will have amazing graphics, and will run without any hitches. Even The Day Before had a trailer, yet his “amazing” game does not have a single in-engine WIP video. And that’s that.
UE5 games keep giving me a feeling of motion sicknesses that just wasn't there before, like my eyes can't actually focus on things, so they definitely look worse to me.
Worse frame-rates, more stutters and another less known fact – Less contrasted objects due to all kinds of blur (base taa blur, motion blur to mask crappy framerate, depth of field to mask crappy LoD or poor draw distance) for your mind to unconscious track to get a sense of movement gets your senses confused and that cuses the nausea like feeling.
What i don't get is all those that defend the downward slope in render quality (and i don't mean base assets / textures and shader's for instance) – Its basically all blur, stutter and more bluur to mask the crappy framerate. Games back when used to be clear and crisp… i rather have a couple of jaggies that Vaseline smeared over the entire screen

they looked clearer without the dlss and frame gen crap and didnt have that generic unreal engine 5 look.
"Games did not look better 10 years ago."
Some things get downgraded while they focus on other things. Just compare the physics of Far Cry 2 with the newer ones, they never recovered that level of detail 6 titles later, but morons like you will see a 4k texture, higher polygons and call it a day.
"still waiting on his game that will put to shame all the other engines"
Lying scumbag trying to make men made of straw…
We agree on this, physics have gone downhill.
There is a reason for this. X360 and PS3 had better CPUs and weaker GPUs. That's why the devs focused on physics. Remember Black? Or Red Faction Guerrilla? But then PS4 and Xbox One came out with better GPUs and weaker CPUs. That's when the devs stopped focusing on interactivity and physics.
And you know what? The new Battlefield is trying to go back to these days with its destruction. And then you see people saying <<Oh, it's not realistic. Buildings shouldn't collapse like that>>. Are you kidding me? Or how about AC: Shadows which had more interactivity at launch but then Ubisoft had to censor it due to the backlash of destroying temples.
So when we don't have games with complex physics, people complain. And when we do, people complain because of them. Make up your mind people 😛
PS: Remember the hardware-accelerated PhysX games? You know, the games that a lot now use as great examples of physics? Back then, people were calling those effects gimmicks. So, what happened? Why suddenly now people “love” physics, and those games? As a lot were saying back then, they were just gimmicks and “cosmetic” effects that weren’t worth it 😛 .

The only gimmick in those effects is the fps tanking if you didn’t have the patented hardware, other than that it was great, i don’t think the stuff we have today (or most of it) compare with those effects. If you gatekeep a feature, people will complain and i can see where they come from since i unfortunately had an AMD card when playing Arkham Asylum and coudn’t enjoy the PhysX features.

You have to begin providing sources because nowhere i see people complaining about those effects and you are mythomaniac from what i can see. As for AC Shadows, that is useless culture war nonsense that even you engaged with.
Stop it, are you kidding me, look at Arkham Knight Its way better than most games today, and yes its 10 years ago… Or maybe that PS 4 Exclusive Order 1886, and its also 10 years ago, or you need more example , KillZone Shadow fall incoming plus Crysis 3
For fairness sake, you can only compare Arkham Knight with the AAA games released today, tough the AA scene can put better looking games compared to 10 years ago (the AA games of their era).
You should NEVER, EVER compare a triple-A game with a double-A game. The moment you compare apples to oranges, your argument goes down the toiler. News flash everyone, most indie games these days look way worse graphically than the original Crysis. Oh, who would have thought. Let's use this now to say that games looked better 20 years ago.
If you want to compare triple-A games, then do so with those we got in 2024/2025. Killzone and Crysis 3 look way worse than Hellblade 2, Indiana Jones Path Traced or Assassin’s Creed: Shadows.
Hmm, I dont recall in your original comment (and the OP comment you replied before) whether its about AA or AAA, john … the OP talk about UE5, which AAA also used and still sucked at graphical department and optimisation. So you need to tone down about defending this UE5 slop compared to game a decade ago that looks better even in AA like for example Just Cause 3 or Sunset Overdrive (hey, even both also an open world like MindsEye)…
This is Sunset Overdrive (in case you forgot what it looks like). And you’re saying it looks better than MindsEye? If you truly believe that, you should see an eye doctor. What you could say is <>, which is completely subjective. Graphically, it looks worse.

Thanks John I dont need to fix my eyes (idk what your fetish with eye, btw ) And yep,it looks better and more pleasing in the eyes than MindsEye due to style devs choose. While MindsEye is just another game made from city demo assets in UE5 , but at least now I knew your criteria regarding to good graphics. Which is game made with UE5, no matter how much vaseline put on top to hide its worst performance due to bloated 'latest' graphical effects it actually cannot handle but still push to do just because its there …,
Interesting that you bring up Indiana Jones. Watched a friend play it and that game looked like complete diarrhea water to make up for the massive framerate loss due to the forced raytracing that did absolutely nothing to improve the looks of the game because at that point it was like polishing a turd.
You need to stop consooming goyslop and come back to reality, my poor little copium huffer.
Sadly, yeah. Games do looked better. Triangle count dont matter if you make your game blurry mess with AA, TAA, dithering, dof, frame gen, upscaling and bloom cranked to max.
LoL, no. Maybe you have potato PC?
Getting stable 60FPS at 1440p without fake frames and resolution with my RX 9700 XT.
So I would game is properly optimised, Expedition 33 looks way worse.
U switched from a 7900 XTX to a 9700 XT?
What happened to VRAM is king?
AMDumbos truly are braind3d.
We get it you don't know a thing about hardware, make it less obvious.
AMD is not NVidia, the RX 9700 XT is a 1440p card, and 16GB VRAM is more than enough.
Haven't seen a single game use more than 13GB of VRAM on maxed out settings at 1440p.
VRAM is king when NVidia releases starving GPUs like the RTX 4070 with 12GB of VRAM, which is not enough for 1440p gaming.
U are d0mb just like most AMD m0nkeys.
You probably spent $1650+ combined for both cards, for that money you could have bought a 4090 when it came out, and you'd still have today a card that is faster than both, and much faster in RT and PT.
A lot of 1diots did the same with the first models of Ryzens, buying into different chips when Skylake would have been enough for years to come.
But zi poor AMSlow underdog gotta have some support from TrueGamers like urself.
Don’t know what you talking about, why would I buy an inferior GPU.
Maybe you like "LICKING" NVIDIA's big shi##y hole !!!!
You are poster child for the average re**rd that sucks Jensen's d*ck.
What the point to benchmark game in NATIVE and MFG? When no one never will be play it in native. Also MFG over 2X just useless junk. I think in 4k 32' dlaa is excessive (or even quality)
There is either something wrong with your rig or some thing wrong with the game as when i tried on 1440p i got a stable 60fps dlss on balanced on a rtx 4070 and Ryzed 5600x but fame pacing was terible at high settings and aa on epic as aa is crap.
So to get over the aa problems i just tested 4k same settings got 50fps but frame pacing was crap and the vsync and frame limiter do not work in game so i used Msi Afturburner to limit to 40 fps and no issues now and frame pacing is perfect.
Whats the point off "new graphics" engine if you cant see the layers of detail, texture clarity, far draw distances, etc because its a blur, just to get it to run. I was watching streamers play Monster hunter wilds and…. OMG it looked it a Wii game…. same with Ue5 games, You and the 1% can enjoy the "next gen" graphics, meanwhile the actual above/average gamers picture quality has gone WAY down.
Because everything nowadays is low effort slop served to idiot consoomers of said slop. I miss the days when games were polished and they looked beautiful because a lot of attention to detail was put into it and a masterful use of basic techniques instead of these modern bells and whistles where you check a box and the framerate is halved and the game turns to mud and everyone claps their hands because you just took advantage of a "feature" of these overpriced GPUs that these tards wasted their money on.
The game industry is running on copium fumes at this point.
I've seen the face melting bugs in social media …
Initial user videos show the game could've benefitted greatly from a delay
there are some nice micro details, like when you shoot a car, each part respond/damage differently … but on the other side, collision with an NPC breaks their structure, like literally body drops and glitches to pieces.
Cutscene quality also shows there was potential but they ruined it with poor planning and early release.
"but on the other side, collision with an NPC breaks their structure"
I like that bug, some of these bugs should be keep around as a feature you can turn on or off, like giant heads used to be common in 3d fighting games.
UE5 = abomination
The main character is the quintessential definition of the American Mutt, the Amerimutt.
No amount of optimization and advanced graphics tech can fix how UGLY this game is. Hideous characters and bad art direction cannot be overcome, at least not without extensive overhauls.
I was tempted to compare the main character to a chimpanzee, but that would be unfair to monkeys.
Ok, the game is demanding with epic settings but looks really neat, what about something like high setting, does it hold up if we`re talking about visuals and how big is the performance gain? In many ue5 games I just set one or two things to high and get like 30-50% more fps.
We'll take a look at graphics settings in our upcoming PC Performance Analysis.
Every thing about this game is trash, who cares if it runs well or not
( well its UE5 so, intrinsically a redundant question )
GOTY 2025, this game just need more polish
No amount of kurwa could fix this thing!
