Keystone is a new first person shooter from the developers of Warframe

Digital Extremes has just announced that it has formed a second internal development team to work on a new game concept that expands its vision of creating high-quality free-to-play experiences built in tandem with its community. The fruits of this initiative is Keystone, a competitive first-person shooter with a distinct blend of first-person action and deck-building strategies.

Digital Extremes is inviting community-minded players to sign-up on the newly launched Keystone website for a chance to participate in the Closed Alpha starting later this week.

With the look and feel of the 1970’s retro-pulp era, Keystone promises to take players on a journey through a multi-verse that begins on the starting square of an intriguing, mystical board game. Players will wield unique decks of cards throughout the match that offer handy benefits, amazing powers, and fearsome weapons. With timing and resourcefulness, personally customized decks give players the upper hand in battle both individually and when strategically coupled with teammates’ decks. To find out more and to participate alongside the developers in building the concept of Keystone, sign up for the Closed Alpha today.

First-wave players will be notified this week on Thursday, May 25 to download and prepare for the first Closed Alpha session beginning Friday and ending Monday, May 26-29.

Sheldon Carter, studio head at Digital Extremes, said:

“The long-running success of Warframe has enabled us to build up a second internal team to create a wholly different but equally satisfying game concept that we’re really excited about. Keystone originates from our roots in the FPS world and mixing genres like we have done with Warframe. We believe there’s room to expand the confines of what defines a good FPS and hope our community will see the potential and get on board for the ride.”

  1. “โ€œThe long-running success of Warframe has enabled us to build up a

MAKE DARK SECTOR 2 YOU FREAKING CLOWNS.

    1. They did, it is called Warframe (not even joking here). Why do you think that in Warframe you’re a “Tenno” (after they got the rights ti the IP back, they weren’t very coy with it either, letting you even getting Tenno’s original Warframe).

      1. Thats my point moron, instead of making a good game like dark sector with story, atmosphere and puzzles, they made a f2p repettive borefest and they keep milking it….now they are making another of those games. The sad state of digital extremes, they used to be good.

        1. It wasn’t a borefest. I had a lot of fun in it. One of the very few online games I enjoyed. And did you check the lore? Insanely good.
Although a single player game in that universe would be awesome. Dibs on Frost ๐Ÿ˜€

          1. They got the money to do it, they got the fans, they could ask for more money with kickstarter they can get a publisher they can do it online only BUT THEY DONT, they make another of those borring repettive f2p games.

The lore? You keep doing the same thing over and over again, there is no progress. The whole game is based so much on grinding that is riddiculus. Jesus, play path of exile, the old republic and secret world.

          2. I had friends helping so I didn’t grind much. That bad?
Also, the lore is awesome. Did you play through the main quests? Really good story.
I have to agree that after that, all you can do is go for challenges with friends to see who survives the longest. But grinding? I helped many people get entire prime sets in less than an hour. That isn’t grinding in my book. And sold the parts I obtained to get the parts and mods I wanted. I went from nobody to Prime in a few hours and in less than a month I did all the content. It was fun. But hey, if you don’t like it, you can just check the diaries to see the story in it.
But to each its own, I guess.

          3. “Did you play through the main quests?”

Correct me if i am wrong but in order to unlock those you need to increase your rating, which happens only with grinding.

” I helped many people get entire prime sets in less than an hour. That isn’t grinding in my book.”

That is grinding, thta is the definition of it.

          4. To get a prime set in less than an hour is grinding? That is playing the game. I’ve seen missions that take as much in Just Cause 3 and others. And how is that the definition? Is it oppressive? Seemingly without end? There are 19 types of different missions to get stuff the way you want. There are more mission types than many games have missions at all. And those who say it is grinding are the people who wanted to get a prime part every 5 minutes (quite literally). The game is not grinding, you can grind, if you want for whatever reason. I grinded Mag Prime sets (each set has 4 parts) to sell before she was vaulted, in 1 afternoon I got 8 sets of her. Was it needed? No. I, at moment needed to spend that time doing any of it and simply continue with the story. Was it fun to get together with some people and just have fun killing waves of mobs in style? Hell yeah, it was. You spoke of Path of Exile, which I played and it was ok, but it got boring fast for me.
In Warframe, I got to jump in enemies heads, while freezing all around me and shooting others before even landing.
And if you are alone and have low level, ask in chat that you need help going somewhere and they’ll take you to the places you want to go to get the objects to start the missions. The missions themselves have no minimum requirements, but to survive them you need to be strong. Some are solo missions and they’re not easy at all. I advise some good mods and a Prime Warframe. After that just enjoy the story, have fun doing whatever you want. It is more open than you may think. And if you like Dark Sector, you’ll love the lore. Or just watch on youtube, I personally preferred doing it.

        2. He didn’t name call 1st, you did. That means you automagically lose the argument. Good job loser. ๐Ÿ˜€

  2. “Players will wield unique decks of cards throughout the match that offer handy benefits, amazing powers, and fearsome weapons.”

Welp, there goes any interest I had.

      1. F*ck those godd*mn cards. They don’t integrate with the rest of the community, and bring nothing but crime and poverty. They’re r*pists.

  3. introducing cards and trying to toss in board game like inspiration kills it for me. Also F2P.

  4. But that’s where I’m trying to get at. It is extremely varied (take a look, you would be amazed) and you don’t even need to farm for almost anything. You can just progress, sell the stuff you get and buy what you want. All without being forced to grind, allowing you to do the quests you want, where you want (there is a progressive system that opens new locations, but you don’t even have to abide by it). It’s free in more ways than one.

  5. I don’t play in 4K and I didn’t find it boring at all (which is weird, as I don’t like online games much), but I see what you’re going through. Fair enough ๐Ÿ˜€
