During its investor’s conference, CD Projekt RED revealed some new information about its new Cyberpunk game, Cyberpunk 2077. According to the company, Cyberpunk 2077 is in full development mode and there are over 300 people working.
As CD Projekt RED noted, this represents 3/4 of the total workforce it wants on this project. And while it already has all core staff for the project, the team is looking to hire plenty of testers.
Unfortunately, and while Cyberpunk 2077 is in advanced development stage, the team won’t share anything about it in 2017. As CD Projekt RED has already claimed, 2017 is the year of GWENT.
But what about a new, proper The Witcher game? When one investor pressed CD Projekt RED’s CEO Michal Kicinski about it, Kicinski had this to say:
“The Witcher was designed as a trilogy. Trilogy cannot have a fourth part, however we like that world very much. We have invested 15 years of our lives and loads of money into it and we will probably think about it at some point. But please consider us as rational people, we sometimes have weird ideas, but overall our thinking is very rational. We have full rights to The Witcher games. They are ours. We have invested enormous funds into promoting it, and it’s a very strong brand. Answer your own question :)”
Kicinski concluded that CD Projekt RED has to be very careful with its words, because everything said during that conference is also heard by the gamers.
“Obviously plenty of you are gamers as well, but what we tell gamers is part of the marketing campaign, so we can’t discuss certain things even though we know them already. We cannot reveal our full hand.”
So yeah, our guess is that there will be a new The Witcher game in the near future, though you should not expect it anytime soon!

as much as i support CDPR i don’t like the idea of a Gwent game with microtransactions
it kinda leads to developer getting free money for doing F**k all (looking at you blizzard)
and while crafting a good game takes ages and doesn’t sell for more than the asking price (no microtransactions, cheap season pass) it feels like a deterrent to their ideals
and it’s OBVIOUS they’re not done with the witcher, but right now all hands are working on Cyberpunk which probably will dethrone deus Ex as the new Cyberpunk genre
i hope they’ll stick to their values…
While I agree with the basic idea that they shouldn’t be degrading themselves to the level of making an actual Hearthstone ripoff, at the same time I can’t help but think; if they can’t help themselves but to go after the “free money markets”, then at least they’re using a Hearthstone ripoff to buff their income, rather than an in-game cash shop with micro-transactions in Cyberpunk 2077, or some moronic pre-order to unlock stuff campaign, or whatnot.
Hopefully their version of Witcher “4” will turn out better than its equivalents (namely, Massively Defective: Androgynous Syndrome & co).
+1 upvote for “Massively Defective: Androgynous Syndrome”, lol!
I think that ‘Mass Defect: Androgyny’ works best but each to their own!
i guess this is really the “lesser evil” between the two choices
and you’re probably right, they really could use the money from the “free markets” to help maintain themselves
either way… Gwent will make blizzard lose it’s heartstone customers which will transfer their revenue to CDPR’s
which by itself is a move i definitely support…
i just hope they keep the microtransactions just to Gwent alone…
“really could use” might be a bit too much, since they seem to be doing just fine regardless, but if they spend the profits responsibly, then yeah, if nothing else, they really could “spend it wisely”, at least.
Hopefully. Blizzard is still Blizzard, after all. They’ve got that Blizzard Walled Garden Eco-System sh*t sown up very tight, regardless. Agreed on the microtransactions.
“As CD Projekt RED has already claimed, 2017 is the year of GWENT”
For The Witcher 3 I used the mod ‘No Time For Gwent’ so, er, not for me it isn’t!
Boooooooo!!!! Gwent the f*ck out of here!
Is that a new song lyric by Gwent Stefani?
^
These puns are Gwenting crazy!
Watch you’re mouth son.Show Gwen respect or I will hunt you down 😀 😀 😀
i see what you guys Gwent with, here.
Gwent is actually pretty cool but it’s annoying AF when you don’t understand it and don’t care.
Precisely. Hence for why said mod is such a godsend.
The only company worthy of a preorder atm.
No. No company is worthy of preorder.
CDPR has said that Cyberpunk 2077 will be even bigger than The Witcher 3. Also, it’s a good thing that they plan to hire plenty of testers.
Hopefully this time they give us proper modding tools. CDProjekt creates compelling worlds with interesting story, gameplay balancing is most certainly not their strong suit. So giving modders more control will let them fix what they can and make it a much better experience for players like me who care about the actual gameplay.
this time, it shall be a true PC game since the console market is now in shambles and most developers prefer developing for PC (less need to optimize, easier to work with)
CDPR realized that they no longer need to degrade themselves to microsoft or sony to get good proper PR
the series is now more popular than ever and the books sell well
but as always, if you see them saying “footage captured on a PS4 pro/Xbone scropio”
you know when to abandon ship
i remember in 2014 they literally did that with the “played on Xbox one”
and then in the end of the video it said in tiny words of text “footage captured from PC”
they called out their BS from the comment section and i knew there is gonna be a downgrade, but like anything on PC
mods giveth what developers taketh
Okay. I guarantee you cyberpunk will come out on PS4/Xbox.
Videogames are a commercial product my man and everyone likes money. Witcher 3 sold more on consoles anyway.
He didn’t say it would be a PC-exclusive, he said it will be “a true PC game”, which neither The Witcher 2 nor The Witcher 3 were, as CDPR started chasing the console market.
Hopefully he’s right.
that is obvious, but i’m pretty sure this time the PC version will get prioratized, a lot of peasants shifted from console to PC the last 2 years since hardware because very affordable and powerful
unless they shill out to microsoft/sony i don’t see a legit concern of another downgrade
I don’t see how Witcher 3 wasn’t a true PC game. It controls better on keyboard, has far more intricate options on PC, has some of the best mod support outside of Bethesda games, and runs flawlessly on PC.
You do realize about 20 million of those sales were from console, right? Witcher 3 never would have happened without console. CDPR has said that many times.
Hopefully.
The modding tools for Witcher 3 were quite poor compared to their predecessors, hopefully they’re not setting a trend with that.
????????????
Godamn it show us some footage already.
New Witcher games huh? Thats cool, i guess it will be entirely new story and hero. Or who knows.. I can hardly wait lol, and im not even done with 3 yet!
maybe dusting off ye old ps3 original witcher game. what was it called before they scrapped it, “Rise of the White Wolf” i believe. i wouldn’t mind trying it out if it ever happened. It would be the one game where bringing the combat from 2or3 would actually be an improvement.
Better delay it til 2020 or you won’t make those target graphics happen.
Yeah these days even if the game is legit good, it’s still wise to wait at least a year until they patch it.
Precisely. I waited for the patches, both expansion packs and the patches for said expansion packs before buying the game. My patience was rewarded by the money saved on the asking price, having been spared dealing with all the bugs and a far greater selection of mods available that’d had extra time to be improved.
Buying games upon initial release, much less pre-ordering, is an increasingly less attractive option if one applies a little logic.
It’s not always easy to not get caught up in all the hype leading up to games’ launch day. It’s easier when one avoids visiting the big name gaming sites who, as we all know, act as an extension of games publishers’ marketing arms. Avoiding the sites that are blatant shills for the games industry makes it much easier to not be suckered by marketing hype.
all aboard the hype train
Don´t want to know pretty much about this game´s news, since it´s a day 1 buy for me and since it´s name always was a hint for the year it would be launched.
So, i´m sure it will be awesome and i´m sure it will be released this year. No need to worry about anything else 😀
CDPR sold their souls to console. TW3 has been very much casualized and dumbed down despite massive praise. This probably made for console again.. so i’m not gonna get it anytime soon until it’s on sale.
Um not really. Not sure how you could really make this argument. Among other game mechanics, dodging was way easier in Witcher 2, potions lasted longer, the game world was smaller and the combat was far easier, etc.
I hate the Witcher – all 3 of them – because they are massively overhyped games that get undeserved praise. The only shining aspect of the game is the story, and maybe the graphics for 2 and 3. At least it supports Ansel though, right? But, I did 100% it and I have played through more than once and am currently on a New Game+ just so I can take prettier screenshots than when I first played, because I built a new machine. I would not argue with a new game. I’d like to see other regions. Perhaps Temeria before the invasion. Perhaps Metinna, Nazair, or any of the other 90% of the world that we haven’t seen through the first three games.
Ugh. I had the same glitch several times where Geralt would be stuck walking around on his knees. I got stuck once in a barrel of water and had to blow myself up by Igni’ing an explosive barrel nearby because I couldn’t get out. It is certainly not without problems.
