Square Enix showcases Final Fantasy XV running on NVIDIA’s GeForce GTX1080Ti

As we already know, Square Enix is currently experimenting with a PC version of Final Fantasy XV. And during this year’s GDC, Final Fantasy XV Director Hajime Tabata showcased a tech demo of Final Fantasy XV running on the PC.

The PC that was running this tech demo of Final Fantasy XV was equipped with a single NVIDIA GeForce GTX1080Ti.

Square Enix has collaborated very closely with the Nvidia Game Works team and is currently working on procedural, AI and destruction. As such, the GDC 2017 demo was focused on these three things.

As always, this does not mean that Final Fantasy XV has been confirmed for the PC. However, it’s almost certain that a PC version is happening behind closed doors.

While the a video of this tech demo has not been published yet (not even in cam mode), DualShockers captured some images that can be viewed below.

Enjoy!

    1. Probably either a confidentiality clause in that exclusivity contract, or they’re take a page out of Rocksh*t’s book & trying to make as many console sales as possible before they formally announce the existence of the superior PC port, which they believe is going to drain the sh*t out of their inferior plebeian sales.

      1. They’re milking the console people with PCs so they can double dip and buy the game again at $60

      2. Actually the sales figures are better than expected for SE and would always have been higher regardless if this game was announced for the PC at the same time. Consoles are much more prevalent for this type of game than PCs. I really don’t get why more people just don’t own both – it’s not a huge investment.

        1. Well, for one thing, the massive price tag attached to a current-gen console is still a big cockblock for a lot of people. For another, most just don’t see the value in owning a PS4, or an XONE. Hell, I own one (PS4 – holiday discounts ftw), & I can barely recommend it as a purchase to most people.

A PS3? Sure, hell, the classics on that one are ungodly, & everyone should have one, really, but a PS4? Hell no. Why, in order to play….. 3-6 games that are actually worth buying that haven’t made their way over to the PC [yet]? For that amount of money? F*ck that sh*t. Especially with this “faster upgrade cycle” bullsh*t.

Besides, why in the f*ck should I spend a ridiculous amount of money buying the degraded console version of a game that I know is going to be released on PC within 6 months, anyway? Exactly.

As for the sales figures; your point being, what, exactly? GTAV broke historical sales records, not just IP records, & yet Rocksh*t still held off on announcing that they were even working on a PC port for f*cking YEARS, all because they were trying to maximise their console sales figures for as long as possible. Stuff like this, it’s not about how many copies they over-sold by, it’s all about how many more copies they over-sold, all by denying that they’re actively working on a PC port that’s due to be released any time soon. No, seriously, do you have any idea how many people bought GTAV on a PS3/X360, & then again on the PS4/XONE? Not to mention the idiots that bought the damn thing three times, once the PC version finally came out.

Yeah, sure, if they’d announced & released Final Fantasy XV for the PC right alongside the console versions, the sales number difference would in the end have been negligible, but good luck explaining that to some random assh*le in a suit who can’t get past the “MORE MONEY!” part, no matter what you say about it being a “negligible difference that serves only to piss people off, since you’re treating them like they’re a bunch of dumb f*cks.” That, & considering how its Square Enix, “PC Piracy” probably came up in the conversation a few times, too, I’m betting.

          1. Hmm, me pointing out facts about sales and being fairly realistic makes one salty hmm? yeah I spent 275 on a PS4 slim and Bloodborne. A GTX 1070 is almost $400 by itself. Either you can’t invest in a proper PC because of a lack of funds and you go with console, or you are fortunate enough to afford both. Fact is, there is nobody that can afford a PC gaming rig for whom a PS4 or Xbox is a “cockblock” or “massive price tag” as you say. Let’s be real. Yeah some games get ported to PC eventually – and that’s where I play them if they do, so? Doesn’t change the facts. Console sales will always beat out PC sales for the same game. Notice that I didn’t have to rant or curse while making my point 🙂

          2. What? When has a 75% off console game ever been cheaper than a 75% off Steam game? In history. Ever.

“Either you can’t invest in a proper PC because of a lack of funds and you go with console, or you are fortunate enough to afford both.”

What the f*ck logic is this? How do you figure not being able to afford a 1070 = “go buy a console” exactly? Mid-end GPU’s are extremely popular with good reason; they get the job done (especially thanks to how much the conslows are holding back the PC from going all-out), & they’re affordable. Are they as cheap as a conslow? No, you do have to pay more up-front, that’s true, but hey, at least on Steam you’re not expected to pay for access to the multiplayer portion of a game you already bought…….

            Yeah, thanks for that, Microsoft.

Especially, as I previously mentioned, with the massively sped up upgrade cycle Sony & Microsoft are now trying to push through, which overall ends up costing you more in the long run than simply upgrading your PC’s GPU every 2-3 years, even when you factor in the odd CPU/Motherboard + RAM upgrade every so often.

“Fact is, there is nobody that can afford a PC gaming rig for whom a PS4 or Xbox is a “cockblock” or “massive price tag” as you say.”

            Yeah, okay.

“Console sales will always beat out PC sales for the same game.”

And now you’ve gone completely off the rails – or you’re a fanboy trying to push your ridiculous consale agenda, in which case, f*ck off. Either way, if you break down sales figures for your average AAA game, on a per-platform basis, you’ll actually find that the PC almost always accounts for 1-in-3 sales, meaning it pulls its weight in just fine. Sure, some IP’s are more conslow-oriented, which results in higher consale sales, but even then, the sales spike is generally situated around a specific platform (ex. Call of Duty & the X360), much like how Witcher 3 PC completely outsold both conslow platforms combined……

Yep, true story, so sad. Then of course there’s those IP’s that have been historically console-exclusive, either to one platform or both, & have only recently reached &/or returned to the PC, in which case, needless to say, sure, their PC sales will lag behind, but that’s expected, really. Then again, of course, there’s always the oddball situation, like, say, for example, the Dark Souls: Prepare to Die Edition…….

            Ouch.

    2. ikr, i’m playing it on PS4 and it’s nothing like that. I mean what’s with the buggy wheels on Regalia? something’s fishy.

  1. Am I missing something??

I don’t see any performance metrics or frame rate indicators anywhere.

What is the significance of it running on a 1080 Ti if there is no demonstration of performance?

    1. Demonstrating tech the cards support.

Metrics woudn’t mean anything without comparsons… which aren’t very impactful on games that aren’t out yet.

      1. Well, at least we’d know at what FPS it can run at on a 1080 Ti, & on what settings (supposedly).

From there we’d at least be able to extrapolate basic assumptions, even if nothing else.

Yeah, sure, it wouldn’t be much, but at least it would have been better than nothing.

      2. Fair point.

I suppose it’s just my own dissatisfaction from wanting to see some data on the new card.

  2. I’d love to see the full range of tech that it’s apparently going with for the ti model. Some of them aren’t showing much in terms of view distance improvements though.

  3. Woah! That looks pretty. Wonder when they will announce it on PC . It’s not like some super secret that a PC version exist why not reveal it then.

  4. When this comes to PC I just want it to be an actual PC game like taking advantage of PC not like all the absurd ports we got of all other final fantasy games.

  5. My goodness announce the pc version already my future card amd or nvidia i will be ready for real 4k60. Vega or Pascal im ready to cash out

  6. Even if this game is optimised for performance, I doubt that it will be optimised for keyboards & mouse, which is equally annoy, none of Japanese games I’ve seen actually runs well on kb/m

    1. because not all Gameworks stuff run on nvidia hardware only. HBAO+ for example capable of running on AMD hardware since the very beginning. and now nvidia opening more of their gameworks stuff.

      1. GE is just another middleware. and many game engines out there also did not everything in house and rely on third party solution to do the job for them. in this particular case they simply choose to use nvidia GE. so what’s the problem? just because their own game engine have issues they cannot use other middleware with their game engine. in fact using nvidia GE probably going to make certain things easier for them like improving their core game engine and did not have to worry about creating certain effect from the scratch for their engine.
