Gamestop may have leaked Prey’s release date, coming on May 5th [UPDATE]

It appears that Gamestop has leaked the release date for Prey. According to Gamestop’s weekly ad, Prey is currently planned for a May 5th release. Bethesda has not commented on this yet, therefore we strongly suggest taking it with a grain of salt.

Prey is a first-person sci-fi action game from Arkane Studios that will be powered by CRYENGINE, will share some gameplay similarities with Dishonored 2, and will encourage players to explore and make decisions.

In Prey, you awaken aboard Talos I, a space station orbiting the moon in the year 2032. You are the key subject of an experiment meant to alter humanity forever – but things have gone terribly wrong. The space station has been overrun by hostile aliens and you are now being hunted. As you dig into the dark secrets of Talos I and your own past, you must survive using the tools found on the station, your wits, weapons, and mind-bending abilities.

Bethesda may officially announce the release date for Prey in the coming days, so stay tuned for more.

It’s worth noting that Arkane Studios wants to avoid the PC mess that occurred with Dishonored 2. While the game still suffers from PC performance issues – and we are pretty sure that they won’t be fixed – Arkane Studios claimed that the PC version of Prey won’t suffer from such performance issues.

UPDATE:

It’s official. Bethesda has just released a new gameplay trailer for Prey, revealing that the game will be released on May 5th!

  1. does anyone get excited over release dates anymore?i don’t even notice or care about majority of these games anymore

    1. Same here and for a long time now. Probably since 2005. That’s when it became normal for games to ship absolutely broken because internet access became widespread even for console gamers. Before then the assumption at least with console games was that many would be unable to download patches so your game had to work the way it was launched. But Steam on PC and widespread adoption of XBL meant that devs could push unfinished games out the door and be forgiven as long as they fixed the most glaring flaws soon-ish. This knowledge quickly turned publishers into gamblers who force devs to release even if it’s broken, in hopes that they can still fix it. If they can’t, oh well, bigger marketing budget for the sequel.

      1. i’m just never in mood to play any video games even if they’re polished and well optimized,i was dying to play dishonored 2 back then in 2011-12 when i finished the first one, haven’t touched dishonored 2 since i bought it, same with resident evil 7, played it for an hour and i got bored then deleted it

        1. I know that feel, except for the part where you keep buying those games. Why buy something if you don’t feel like playing it immediately? I was hyped for Dishonored 2 until they actually showed it off and it became apparent that the game wouldn’t fix any of D1’s flaws (stealth not being interesting enough). They kept showing open combat with silly “The Darkness” style tentacle kills, and moody story stuff that didn’t grab me either. Then the game came out and reports came in that the port is terrible. At that point, why would anyone buy it? I don’t understand.

    1. How do you turn into a ceramic cup? None of the transformations are physically plausible, you need “alien magic” to explain them.
