Forza Horizon 3 – New update released, aims to improve performance and stability

Playground Games and Turn10 have released a new update for the PC version of Forza Horizon 3. This update is 1GB in size and even though there isn’t any changelog, Playground Games claimed that it features minor updates to improve performance and stability.

This patch will be auto-downloaded from the Windows Store (or manually via the game’s Windows store page).

For what is worth, this patch did not address the single-thread issues that we’ve already reported. As we can see below, the game is still maxing out one CPU core.

It’s quite obvious that Playground Games and Turn10 won’t be able to address this issue and as a result of that, the game will be plagued with performance issues on the PC.

And yes, while the PC version is affected by these performance issues, it still runs better than its Xbox One cousin (while also looking better).

Still, it’s kind of sad that this racing game suffers from such single-thread CPU issues. Some people suggested that this is due to Microsoft’s new secure appx format, though it has not been proved yet that this is indeed the culprit behind the game’s underwhelming performance.

      1. Man we all know it’s just a marketing for win 10 in 2 or 3 years you will never see any xbox one exclusive on pc

  1. Performance issues for FH3 are overblown. While it’s not as good as it can be, the fact is this game runs better than Mafia 3, DE:MD (on release), No Mans Lie and many other recent releases. It’s also still early days so i don’t know why this site is so quick to throw out the possibility of this getting fixed, or atleast further improved which previous patches have done.

I personally only have issues in 2 specific areas of the city area (drops to 50 – 55fps), which accounts for roughly 1% of the games map. The rest runs solid on ultra @ 1440p.

  2. Game actually runs great now since the October 14th patch but I have to wonder if this is Microsoft way of deliberately limiting the performance potential of PCs so that it does not completely embarrass the Xbox One versions of the game. But Gears of War 4 just makes me think otherwise. I think its just the ForzaTech Engine is not completely optimised of PC yet.

  3. Nothing changed, still becomes an slide show after 2 hours. also every car with +200 KM/H = funny pop-in issues specially in jungle area, half of the forest pops in.

  4. Hey john, can you confirm if the game was downgraded or not? I saw some damn awful post patchs pics, and i don’t know if they are real.

    1. Its a Nvidia driver issue. The downgrade is only happening if you use the latest 375.57 drivers. The previous drivers 373.06 are working perfectly without any downgrading.

      1. Do you have any source on this?
I was really looking forward to play this game. But if they are downgrading it, well… i vote with my wallet.

          1. Ty for the info. So the battlefield 1 drivers are bugging the game. Gears of wars deivers are ok then. You should report this in the game forums.

  5. Its a Nvidia driver issue. The downgrade is only happening if you use the latest 375.57 drivers. The previous drivers 373.06 are working perfectly without any downgrading. So use 373.06 if you want to play Forza Horizon 3 while Nvidia fixes this issue.

  6. Not sure what CPU you guys are using….but my overclocked pascal titan x is always running at 99^% usage. My only problems with the game right now are the low resolution shadows, which are terrible, and lack of support for multi-gpu. Though it’s possible the CPU bottleneck will become evident once they enable multi-gpu support. Overall though, this is a great game in terms of fun, graphics, and performance.
