Horikawa Otane has released a new version of his amazing free Mario fan game, Super Mario Bros. X. Given Nintendo’s stance towards fan-made games, and since this is a must-have for everyone, we strongly suggest downloading while you still can.
In case you weren’t aware of, Super Mario Bros. X is a Mario platform game that blends elements from Super Mario 1, 2, 3 and World. Super Mario Bros. X features new blocks, playable characters from other Nintendo games, both classic and brand new power ups, as well as new NPCs.
It’s also worth mentioning that Super Mario Bros. X comes with a brand new level editor, allowing players to create their own levels.
Oh, and there is also support for a 2 player co-op mode, where the screen seamlessly splits and combines as the players separate and rejoin.
Those interested can download this free game from here.
Have fun!

While he is a die-hard PC gamer, his gaming roots can be found on consoles. John loved – and still does – the 16-bit consoles, and considers SNES to be one of the best consoles. Still, the PC platform won him over consoles. That was mainly due to 3DFX and its iconic dedicated 3D accelerator graphics card, Voodoo 2. John has also written a higher degree thesis on the “The Evolution of PC graphics cards.”

As a Nintendo fan i will say Nintendo needs to get over themselves and just release a whole bunch of their old games for the PC for like 50$ i bet they will make LOTS of money!
I never understood why instead of threatening people like the creator of this with legal action, how about offer them a job? They have proven they have the chops. I would look at this as a resume for Nintendo. As long as he’s not selling it for a profit and made it as a labor of love
Because legally it weakens their rights to the IP to allow “unlicensed” products to roam freely in the wild.
A competitor could, theoretically use that in their defence if Nintendo ever tried to sue them for Copyright/Trademark infringement.
Yes, it’s ridiculous, but yeah……
Well, at least that’s the justification in the US, not sure about Japan. Maybe they’re just paranoid about fangames becoming better received than their own games. I mean, how many Pokemon MMO’s have they taken down by now, even though it’s obvious they’re STILL not working on one themselves? >.>
Another argument is that they see all fangames to be inferior in quality, so as far as they’re concerned, they’re negatively afflicting the IP by existing & being openly distributed (Or, alternatively, some of them are too good, & the publisher in question is terrified that they’ll draw attention away from their own sh*tty games; That Metroid 2 fangame that came out a few weeks ago, for example).
