In an interview with JeuxVideo, Hajime Tabata revealed that the PC version of Final Fantasy XV – if it ever happens – will be a tech showcase, and will be beyond what current-gen consoles can achieve.
As Tabata told JeuxVideo, the PC version of Final Fantasy XV will be a “different kind of project“. Tabata wants to use the PC version of Final Fantasy XV as a tech showcase, and it will have the latest tech that is currently not possible to be achieved on consoles due to their hardware limitations.
Tabata claimed that if they decide to build such a PC version, the development team will have to do a tech overhaul and redo some R&D to see what new tech they can use to “rebuild the game.”
And even though there is nothing set on stone yet, Tabata wants to work on such a PC version once the console version is finished.
Naturally, we expect Final Fantasy XV PC to take advantage of DX12. It’s well known that Square Enix has been experimenting with Microsoft’s latest API this past year.
So there you have it everyone. Tabata wants to create the definitive version of Final Fantasy XV on the PC. The big question now is whether Square Enix will invest in such a thing or not.

But but Playstation 4K will be 3.5TFLOPS and will be a super charged PC no doubt. :p
hahahahaha
Yeah I’m going to sell both my 980ti to buy a PS4. 🙂
irony, right?
It’s obvious he’s joking.
LOL!!! PS4K > Pascal
Oh don’t be silly, consoles don’t need half decent hardware like that when they have OPTIMUHHZATION, come on you should know better as a hardware enthusiast. 😛
Consoles are DEDUKATED to gaming and darefore equal to a COVPUTER THRICE ITS POWA!
That’s it, you understand what it’s all about. It’s funny when someone who knows fcuk all about hardware goes away thinking they have schooled you after coming out with a line like that.
NAOOOWWWW, I WANT IT NAAOOOWWW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1!1!1!1!!1!1!11!1!1!11!11!11!11!1!1!1!1!1!1!
Ok now I m very interested, I played the ps4 demo omfg 30fps framedrops feels like slowmotion, I m gonna wait for a pc version :O
the teasing continues….
I’ll believe it when I see it, thus far their ports have been dire.
I think denuvo started it’s work
i dont see how, the sales are not any better than what they were a year or two ago and Japanese games have keep on coming on pc for years now. Where are those millions of lost sales they claimed they lose because of piracy?
If anything Hitman and Just Cause 3 sold like sh*t thanks to being always online and crippling mods.
just cause 3 are surprisingly unimpressive considering the insane promotion the game got especially with youtubers. For whatever reason (propably something to do with lack of ps4 version) rise of the tomb raider sold more than just cause 3.
Hitman has one problem, it has 7 episodes with dlc and always online drm which is basicly how it saves progress.
lol, Stardew Valley a DRM free game sold 1m copies on steam and we don’t even have GOG numbers, yet Hitman is stopping at ~100k (Enter the Gungeon is surpassing it on steam alone which was released 2 days ago), all are 15$ games.
Bah!, Don’t like Tabata, he messed around with the game too much. Removed stella, now everyone’s a korean pop star. Basic combat features were missing in the demo, gameplay is dumbed down cause he is old. Whatevs, atleast it looks pretty I guess.
The real question is will it be optimized?
What I get from this is that it will only be catered towards high end systems and if that’s true, you can’t just “optimize” to run on lower end hardware. Not if it’s so graphically demanding.
Before we got Ultra-High-Med-Low… Now it’s +Ultra-Ultra-High & High=Med-Low… so the new games are not optimized for all the PC’s, RIP Med & Low.
Its like I’m telling my co workers one day I’m going to make an omelette with some eggs but right now I’m going to make a boiled egg since you know clearly I can’t make both and even as such the omelette is better.
Seriously this guy is irritating, why does he keep hyping something then going oh if we do finally get to it, clearly they want to do it they could easily focus on it now but I can see that they’re focus on seeing if it sells anything they hope it does on console and if not the PC version will save the day, by then it’s too late.
The team should keep quiet make their game and sell it on console because clearly if they continue to say it would be better than console then someone higher up will be displeased since denial and rage will sent in as to how come your saying our console version will be meh to the PC version.
I think it’s patently obvious that the game is coming to PC and this is the beginning of the hype for such a game. I am sure these remarks are designed to allow gamers who own both PC and console know the PC version is on it’s way and that it will be better so they can make an informed choice on whether they want to buy the console version at launch or wait for PC version
imo these remarks are for those that only have a PC. they want to keep them hyped somehow in case it was necessary, without ruining their console sale.
if they cared about multiple platform owners that much they would just outright officially announce it. in fact they want multiple platform owners to buy their game twice. once on console, later on PC.
Well I own consoles but will be waiting for the PC version and as far as I am concerned this is what I wanted to hear from them. I don’t care about who gets what first as long as I get a version that’s not riddled with compromises. I think it’s obvious that the game is coming to PC seeing as every other Final Fantasy game is on Steam. Let them hype the console version first as I am happy to just play all the other up coming games. I am not sure if they want gamers to buy the game twice, I know for a fact that’s what Rockstar was doing with GTA5 though
Give us the next Crysis or GTFO.
wat
Must see to believe it.
Well right now it’s a technical mess on consoles, jaggies and sub HD resolution and frame drops below 15fps and blury textures, i guess by technical showcase he means less jaggies and more emo hair ?
lol even fonts have jaggies.
probably cause SE already believes their games on PC are tech showcases like their Rise of the Tomb Raider PC trailer.
Well, RotTR looks pretty great, to be honest. Deus Ex too, Hitman, not so much. But all of those are subsidiaries, to use a word. This is developed in-house so they are much more hands-on.
RotTR is ok, it’s not a tech showcase by any means and not a huge upgrade over 2013 version. we don’t know about Deus EX because whatever they shown was a vertical slice and it will get worst.
lol no antialiasing at all 😀
Sub 30FPS seems to be a common thing on PS4/XB1 and all the peasants can say to PC users is that PC gets a tiny amount of bad ports, using Batman AK all the time.
One thing many don’t know is that most Bad Ports are still better than console version of the game, they are bad by PC standards but they think they are worst than console versions.
They wouldnt be releasing statements like that if it wasnt going to happen.
DayONE STEAM, as always. Bring it
goVEGAN
Then it’s called paranoia. and they won’t do anything extra either way.
Well, I do like to see Vulkan games as much as anyone (if anything, to see if it is better or not than DX12) but saying that ignoring it is going for the smaller userbase is kinda wrong. It would be a stretch to say that EVERYONE of them is going to buy the game, but Win10-64 has a 37% of Steam’s userbase and it keeps growing. And as a Win10 user, besides the anti-monopolistic sentiment and the like, there’s just no reason to NOT upgrade to it. But to each their own, I guess.
On the other hand, I agree that it just can’t be radically different from the console’s version. No matter what PC gamers say, consoles are still quite capable and even when devs do make the extra effort for PC specific features, it doesn’t give a radical difference (subtle lightning/shadow effects and, of course, smoother framerates but that’s mostly it). I still think that, if The Witcher 3 shipped just like the demo that launched on 2012 E3, it would have been unplayable on consoles and would have had higher requirements on PC.
” there’s just no reason to NOT upgrade to it”
So I have to upgrade to it or get slandered?. There are 7 billion and more on this planet, not all 7 billion are going to use 10 and those that aren’t will still outweigh those that do.
Most of the reasons why they don’t make the game so night and day different mostly boil down to money or public reasons along with contracts, imagine the gaming industry if every console port to PC turned out to look miles ahead of what PS4/X1 could output, some claim nothing will happen but it totally happened back with the older console wars during the 16-32 bit era, it can still happen again.
heard it before. when the ne product comes out it will be all about console parity.
