Star Citizen is undoubtedly the most successful crowd-funding game to date. Cloud Imperium has been constantly breaking records and today, the team has raised more than $110 million. Star Citizen has a lot of potential and promises a lot of things, so it will be interesting to see whether Cloud Imperium will be able to deliver what it has promised.
Taking a closer look at the stats, there are currently 1,307,609 users who have pledged $110,006,404.
As we’ve already reported, Cloud Imperium has launched a new Free Fly event that last until March 20th, and lets players enjoy the game for free.
Star Citizen aims to create a living, breathing science fiction universe with unparalleled immersion. Powered by CRYENGINE, Star Citizen promises to feature some of the best visuals on the PC platform.
Star Citizen is the First Person Universe that will allow for unlimited gameplay, and that will focus on online space combat and first-person battles.
Star Citizen’s single-player aspect, Squadron 42, will be sold separately.

My jaw is dropping very low. Can’t believe people stupidity. U can ask for money to treat cancer or something. But pay what it take to save a few african village from starvation is foolish!. Cmon! I hope the game will suck a lot. I mean a lot!
Uh, what? 110 million is pocket change compared to the money corporations like, say, Valve, Ubisoft, Microsoft, Apple, etc move in a yearly basis. And YOU can’t believe people’s stupidity?
Disclaimer: I didn’t back Star Citizen.
You miss my point. I have nothing against company wanna make profit out of their investment, What’s terrible is people yelling at company for selling unfinished games that cost a lot to make and still being crap at the end. And there is customers throwing their cash to some folks blindly on a game that could still be a trash. What a waste.
You never had a point to begin with. Of course there are more important and serious things than, say, gaming. So? Should people completely stop buying games because people are starving in Africa?
Frankly it’s not so much about WHAT people do about their money than WHY . And yes i have a point and you seam so upset about it,,,It’s obvious you must be waiting for that game . And you probably gave them money for it. I hope it worth it. But i still dont understand why? And it’s just my opinion . I’m not the only one who think it’s odd. Get over it dude!
I said already that I didn’t back Star Citizen. Personally I’d never spend 100, let alone 1000 usd in a videogame. Hell, I don’t even pay full price for regular games, always waiting for that sweet 75% off. I did back other Kickstarters such as Wasteland 2 and Divinity: Original Sin, though.
Now that that’s out of the way (for the second time), I just called out your stupid reasoning behind your ‘i hope this game sucks because you could totally treat cancer and feed the poor with that money olol’ comment.
As I said before, other companies in the industry earn A LOT MORE money than 110 million USD over the span of 3 years and a half (so far) As to WHY people spend that much money to buy ships in this game I don’t know, but I certainly don’t hope for it to suck because, of all reasons, you could feed people with that money. That’s just childish.
stop getting it to it with him.its useless.he will never get the point.
Ohh i see your point, Heavily in debt. You’re jealous haha
Star Citizen is currently the game with the 4th largest development budget of all time, with only GTAV, Destiny and Star Wars: The Old Republic having larger development budgets. Not exactly pocket change.
GTA V is owned by Take Two, Destiny is owned by Activision and TOR is owned by EA. Those corporations handle way, WAY more money per year than a measily 110 million, and that’s because people buy their products, yet I don’t see this Geralt guy complaining about those consumers.
and a indie dev like these guys cant get a space flight sim done with a $110m.a space flight sim really?.face it its a cash cow they are strning along because people buy $1000 ships.
just wait it will be pushed back again till nov 2017 then pushed back again.
I couldn’t care less when (and if) Star Citizen will be released.
you dont support the game.you dont care when its released then stf*
You don’t have the slightest clue of what we’re discussing here, go back to console land.
lol get a clue your self.
Well, each has been the most expensive game for each company, so it wouldn’t qualify as “pocket change”, unless they only do business with pocket change, which would be weird, that was my point.
I think the issue with Star Citizen is that it pretty much has one of the largest development budgets rivaling the most expensive AAA games for the richest publishers, yet it’s independent, there is no parent company overseeing how the money is being spent, the backers can’t do that either and the lead developer sounds like a dreamer a la Peter Molyneux, so a number of people are becoming increasingly doubtful about the project. Sometimes it just feels like a huge Jenga tower.
True and Star Citizen has collected 110 in total over 4 years.
This ambitious of a game with a budget of 27.5 million a year.
enjoy them milking you for the next 3 years and it will be still in alpha.
this is a huge cash cow selling ships.they know once it launches it wont make near 110m.they are getting all they can now.
$100m isnt pocket to these guys or any other publisher..try again
i dont support this game as well.
Don’t mind our friend Hvd (Heavily in debt) he troll.
i know they arnt going to give up their cash cow.this game will be in alpha or beta as long as day z…lol
You’re obviously jealous.
lol free money wasted
100% they wont use all the money for the game, easy profit
Escapist article claims that they already spent $82 million dollars. I guess that’s why they started offering free play recently.
Funniest thing is that no one has a backup plan for this kind of situation. They all thought the game will be delivered as promised.
simple they will make more money the way it is.if its released they wont make as much money.i still cant believe that people will pay $500 for a skin(ship).
😀
It’s a pledge. The ship is not worth that much. As i said, you don’t know what you’re talking about.
for new people
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w9JsHwsEVXU&feature=youtu.be
and its still in alpha.talk about milking you for you cash.release finish this game already.
Clearly you don’t realise the scope of the project and how ambitious the game is, they have already had to rewrite parts of the Cryengine to fit the game and uncap the limitations and ex Cryengine devs are working for them now. They’re not milking anyone, it’s people’s choice to fund it and Alpha 2.0 was a big landmark which put a lot of doubters at ease.
actually i’m worried about this developer. they should stop the crowdfunding and release the game first,
Yeah, but then people couldn’t get into the Alpha anymore through pledging. Why would they shut the door on future customers and refuse to continue their funding when people clearly want to pay to access this early form of the game.
That notion is so anti-consumer it hurts. This isn’t a charity, people aren’t just crowdfunding for the hell of it, they get something for their money, plus it lets them support the development of the game.
People can do whatever they want with their money.
You simply have no clue, this was NOT an establish company or dev team, it’s all been done from scratch since 2012, RSI has studios in different counties now all working together on Star Citizen, even people from Crytek have come to work on SC. So please get a clue before talking nonsense. established franchises like TES Skyrim from established studios can take up to 4 years or more to make
you are trying way to hard.i could care less who does what and who works with who.all of that doesnt mean a thing.you say i have no clue well i say you need to open your eyes and see what they are doing.
milking every penny and they keep pushing the game back to do so.just wait they will find some reason to push it back again then release new ship packages.
you need to wake up and look at it from the companys point of view.that is “lets just keep milking them of their money until they stop buying then move in to beta with new ships to sell”
just like h1z1 has been in alpha for well over a year because they have a cash shop with cases/skins thats they have been milking..now they are releasing that game on consoles this summer and it will still be in alpha till next year.
You’re an armchair quarterback. You’ve little notion of the subject you broach and so can’t assemble a credible argument.
It’s simple. You don’t know what you’re talking about because you haven’t bothered to find out.
Game is stunning, I don’t know what you all haters are smoking. I will see you again when Squadron 42 is released and the PU expands.
