Daybreak Games has announced that after much review and consideration, EverQuest Next has been cancelled. Daybreak Games claimed that EverQuest Next would not meet the expectations we – and all of you – have for the worlds of Norrath, which is why the team decided to cancel it.
As Daybreak Games’ president, Russ Shanks, stated:
“For those familiar with the internals of game development, you know that cancellations are a reality we must face from time to time. Inherent to the creative process are dreaming big, pushing hard and being brutally honest with where you land. In the case of EverQuest Next, we accomplished incredible feats that astonished industry insiders. Unfortunately, as we put together the pieces, we found that it wasn’t fun. We know you have high standards when it comes to Norrath and we do too. In final review, we had to face the fact that EverQuest Nextwould not meet the expectations we – and all of you – have for the worlds of Norrath.”
Shanks concluded that the future of the EverQuest franchise as a whole is important to Daybreak Games, and that its passion to grow the world of EverQuest remains undiminished.

the dying of PC MMO.
Black Desert Online says hello and is awesome.
It’s safe to say that western MMOs are pretty much dead. Asian of course is a different story. They have a large market in their own countries to cover the costs of development.
Yeah certainly needs something new but Black Desert Online coming to the west has sparked up interest being an openworld MMO rather than theme park type MMO. One time cheap price like GW2 and cash shop is mainly skins, pets stuff, pretty much works like Eve Onlines AUR
Yes, way to ambitious, no worries Black Desert Online is out and it’s awesome, proper massive open world MMO, no loading screens, it’s more like Eve Online.
I’ve heard nothing but bad things about that game.
That’s because everyone is too busy playing the game.
Sure buddy, anything u say.
Well, there are a lot of players in the game and the servers always seem to be busy when I’ve been on and that’s everyday since launch
Like what?
Just make the next Everquest a post-modern military first-person shooter that’s locked at 30fps and is best played from a couch with a controller. But you HAVE to play it from a couch because… that makes games better for some reason. Cinematic.
Yeah like The Division.
No! It has to be FIRST-PERSON. It’s more cinematic that way. Haven’t I taught you anything?
LOL.
It’s a shame that Sony and Daybreak will get away with this scam. Basically, they launched H1Z1 and Landmark while most of the buyers were completely unaware of their plans to sold SOE to Columbus Nova. It’s only natural that nothing good came out of these projects.
R.I.P Everquest franchise :/
This was to be the 1st low lvl API mmo… Guess not now
People keep saying it and I agree. Bring back the original Everquest with an updated engine and none of the changes they made when they tried to make it more like WOW and “free” to play.
More people play PEQ than F2P EQ which says a lot.
