A season pass and a ubisoft game which isn’t even out yet is best sellers? Ugh when will people learn
I didn’t! I also didn’t know they had orange back packs in the stone age.
Correct I was talking about The Division but I guess you could say the same for Primal.
I was talking about The Division which is 2nd place in the steam sales list and Publishers certainly do get something back from sales on sites like GmG.
Far Cry Primal has been under the radar because of all The Division hype. I wonder how it will run and how much of a good game it will be… Wonder if it will have Gameworks or just be a PC game with no vendor SDK.
It’s quite clearly another Far Cry 3 rehash with the same blind, deaf AI, and the same repetitive “outpost” gameplay. They also took out all the guns and made the bow even less fun to use. I can’t believe anyone pays attention to it after that first gameplay reveal.
I thought the Far Cry 3 AI was pretty fun. You could do things like knife someone, leave a mine next to the body and fire a single gunshot to make people come investigate and blow themselves up when they try to examine the body, also you can actually hide in the foliage.
The Far Cry 2 AI in contrast was very annoying because they could see you from very far away and through foliage so it felt like psychic AI that didn’t give you much room for fun tricks.
Both of the things you describe are simple checkmarks on the player whether he makes noise / is visible. That’s not what is flawed about the NPCs. The flaw is that, just like in Crysis, they don’t feel like ENEMIES that want you DEAD. They seem like extras in an Arnold movie who make a lot of noise and run around but never really try to kill you. That said, open world AI like that is a tremendous feat for the programmers and there are other factors at play that let down the NPCs. For instance the fact that you can see them through walls. It’s funny, in old games the AI used to know where you were at all times, leaving you with a disadvantage. Then things got more fair over time, only for the tables to turn completely, with these ever more casual games where wall hack is a standard feature while the AI won’t see you if you stand next to them. If I were in charge I would increase the view cone to 170 degrees horizontal because that is what HUMANS see and I would remove the “tagging” wall hack completely. Then I’d see how much more aggression is needed or how damages have to be adjusted to give 3+ enemies a fair chance against the player. Stealth is heavily favored any way – why not rely on the player doing it properly? Why let the player get away with being detected when stealth is so important? These “choose your playstyle” games usually end up doing no aspect right. In a proper stealth game an open firefight should be your last resort or only possible once you’re fully levelled or whatever. It shouldn’t be your plan B at all times. You can’t make stealth BOTH good and optional. In order for real tension to build up there has to be a strong motivation not to be detected. Otherwise players will only be stealthy as long as it’s convenient, meaning they won’t be careful, they won’t do REAL stealth, they will just pull faux stealthy moves for cool points until they screw up. This is exactly how people played Far Cry 3 and 4 and as a game dev you can’t blame the players. The player is always right. If people are playing your game in a way you didn’t intend then you must have overlooked something in your mechanics.
far cry primal is barebones compared to the previous games.
Not hard to see what kind of game it will be, take FC3/4 and remove all modern technology.
