Hitman Is Now Officially An Episodic Triple-A Title, New Details Unveiled

Io-Interactive today released further details for HITMAN which launches on March 11th for the PC. As the press release reads, a change to the release structure, sees HITMAN become a truly episodic AAA game experience, with a major live component, where players will perform contract hits on powerful, high-profile targets in exotic locations around the world.

Starting with a Prologue Mission and a Paris location on March 11th, followed by the next location, set in Italy releasing in April and then Morocco releasing in May. From there HITMAN will deliver regular monthly content updates, including three additional locations; Thailand, the US and Japan until the season concludes in Japan later in 2016. With weekly live events and additional planned content in between the monthly updates.

Hannes Seifert, Head of Studio at Io-Interactive, said:

“We decided to take the full leap and publish HITMAN as a truly episodic game experience. Part of that decision is for that little bit of extra time to ensure every location we release is at the quality level fitting for a HITMAN game. But the main driving reason is that this will allow us to create a living game that will expand and evolve over time and establish a foundation for the future – this is the first game in a storyline which will continue and expand with future Hitman games.”

A new Intro Pack now contains Prologue and Paris levels and will release at the new price of $15 (or local equivalent). Each subsequent location will be priced at $10 as an add-on item to the Intro Pack*. Alternatively, players can buy the Full Experience up front for $60. This includes all of this year’s content as it’s released, and guarantees them not to miss any live or bonus content.

The disc version of HITMAN will ship at the end of 2016.

Last but not least, for players wanting to get into the game early, the HITMAN beta starts on February 19th on PC.

  1. As long it wont be too extended in its gaps…im ok with it!

Still more than 400 great games on STEAM to even first-install …take ur time!

  2. Why?
    Why?
    Why?
    WHY?

Who does that benefit? If the content is supposed to be all polished, why don’t just wait and release the full thing? Also, if I’m not a early adopter, what type of content update will I be missing? Will it be available if I wait to buy the whole package? Why am I supposed to essentially “buy a level” and then buy another level, and then another…?

I suppose this is better than the previous plan of having to pay the full price and wait for the rest of the content, but I still don’t get it. I just don’t get it.

    1. The only reason I can think of is to not piss off the audience the second time. It’s easier to make changes during development.

Although I doubt they will listen the audience, and I doubt the game will surpass Blood Money.

      1. Your doubt is reasonable, but if you watch the videos it seems to have went back to the design philosophy of Blood Money but with newer technology. It may very well surpass Blood Money, but it’s Squeenix so I won’t let anything get my hopes too high.

  3. it’s Square-Enix

F’in up anything good they publish

    1st FF13versus 10 years development
2nd TR exclusive deal with M$ and tons of microtansactions
3rd FF7 Remake is an episodic game
4th Hitman is an episodic game

    1. They forgot “cinematic”.

“Episodic experience” was Alan Wake, this is just to put out content so the money come in earlier. I’m just gonna wait until it’s fully done and it’s on a sale on Steam. That of course, if it’s worth anything. Last one was kinda meh.

  4. I’m honestly all right with it personally. Depending on what the feedback from the players is, levels yet to be released have the potential to be better polished and adjusted according to the feedback.

However the only way this may become a hinderance is if the levels are too damn small to begin with and have no repetitive value whatsoever. So, instead if we do get huge levels with a good variety of different mechanics, it might be quite cool.

Besides barely have time to finish games quick these days anyways. Have metal gear solid phantom pain and the Witcher 3 since their respective release dates, have yet to even get close to finishing them. Episodic games I can definitely see myself finishing on time.

  5. I hate it. But if they do it right it “might” pass. Let’s just hopethis doesn’t become the standard.

  6. “Alternatively, players can buy the Full Experience up front for $60.”

So there is a guarantee that they will never make DLC outside of what they are including in this “full experience” deal? I’d read the fineprint if I were to buy that.

  7. This will feel like any other DLC/expansion. You get hyped/excited, finish the content in an hour or so and then…. “that’s it? Waited a month for this?”. And they’ll say: “but wait! in the meanwhile you can repeat the same mission in several different types of approach/targets! Isn’t that cool !?” It’s basically forcing you to repeat the same small content/map and keep stalling month after month for the next story/episode. You might pull this off in an MMO with a monthly sub, since at least there’s a full massive game there already to begin with. The only thing this accomplishes in a simple single player game (which doesn’t actually exist, since it’s just pieces) is annoy the sht out of people and loose their interest, it “cheapens” the franchise. And it’s even worse if you pay 60€ up front and only have the full content almost a year later… it’s just retarded. Basically the “game” is DLC pieces, with an optional “Season Pass” payment. With Witcher 3 you bought a proper full game, later some expansions, and get a lot of periodic long term DLC for free. With this “Hitman: Bloody Puzzle” you pay periodic DLC/expansions and no full game to begin with. Hell, this is like a kiosk collection… buy the 1st delivery, and keep visiting the kiosk every week/month for the next pieces.

  8. pass.its sad where games are going with this episode crap.they are just trying to get more money out of you.they also know you will buy this episode crap.i dont support it so i wont buy it.
