Incandescent Imaging announced today that science fiction adventure title Caffeine – Episode One is the first DirectX 12 title to be released. Powered by Unreal Engine 4, Caffeine is a horror game that comes in the form of three episodes.
As the team claimed, launching the game in DirectX 12 mode can provide up to a 20% performance boost and allows for a smoother experience in the visually stunning environments of Caffeine.
Incandescent Imaging recommends players to use the latest AMD / Nvidia drivers for the best performance gain.
Currently the first episode of Caffeine has mixed reviews on Steam (only twelve reviews mind you) with players reporting various physics bugs and performance issues that will – hopefully – be addressed by the time the second episode arrives.

It currently has 33% on Steam with 12 reviews. That’s not good. It’s great they DX12 actually improved performance though.
never trust steam reviews. its just kids posting memes and trolling.
Actually a lot of people do post good reviews. I find 40 % short reviews (under 10 words) that say good game, love it, etc… but then theres the 30 % reviews that explain it in a great detail.
Yeah.. 40% plus 30 still leaves 30 more for trolls sadly, but its not as bad. At least i haven’t noticed it.
This is internet, most people will not waste time reviewing games with long speeches, but when they do, they do it right. Personally I found more trolling on negative reviews than positive, in every game there are some reviews worth to read and most of the times those ones are upvoted as useful, so you can find them easily.
Many of these reviewers always put cons and pros, making reviews easier to read. What steam needs is to make a page for most upvoted reviewers and then the option to follow them, something like curators.
Yeah. Everything needs a system like that. Theres too many random and trashy comments. But im afraid alot of trolls will get thumbs up and upvoted, because they said something funny instead of you know.. something useful.
I enjoy funny things but yea. -_-
The troll here is you… dont play wise dumbass, go back to your GOG galaxy.
Its great that DX12 shows improvement but what is not great is the course Windows 10 is taking. i.e. Control panel “death”, privacy issues.. making me unwilling to upgrade from Windows 7. This whole forcing thing companies take lately is absurd. Another example, although very early to be certain if it will happen, is Nvidia forcing Geforce Experience software for updating your drivers in the future. Consumers want freedom of option, humans want that actually unless we live in a dictatorship were everything happens by force for the good of people!
I already have Gforce E but um.. they will make it needed in order to update? So like Battlenet (sort of) but for Drivers and Nvidia?
Yeap in the near future Nvidia says to update your drivers GFE must be installed!!
That could be a useful thing for all the people that have no idea how to update drivers. I m so tired of my friends asking me to do it every time. đ
Don’t think so dude for one simple reason. GFE already exists and everyone who is unable to download the drivers manually can install GFE and update them. Don’t understand why anyone would ask for help or why as you say GFE being mandatory will help. That said we now have the OPTION for the rest of users to have full control and download the drivers manually. Now Nvidia simply takes away the second option.
Yeah im all for options aswell lol. I get that part. I can’t even remember how i got GFE? Did it come with some driver or did i download it from their website? I don’t really use it anymore because it has some weird bug, where if i have 2 monitors.. it makes my FPS drop by 80 % and as soon as i unplug my second monitor (or uninstall the program) my FPS goes back to normal lol.
Comes at the cd with your GPU. That’s interesting to know. Never heard of this issue before. I also had an issue using GFE. I found out that Nvidia Network Service and Nvidia Streamer service under “Services” for some reason were raising my CPU temps up to 5 celsius :S That was not a long time ago just a couple of months.. Maybe they fixed that but I didn’t bother checking cause and disable those two and stop using the software.
Its interesting because the old versions of GFE actually dont have that problem. I use a pretty old version, just so i can record some gameplay every now and then. The moment i update it, my FPS tanks down big time. Other people also have it, but Nvidia is just not fixing it for some reason? I dont know lol.
Anyway the temp thing is also pretty odd :O Thats actually scary..
I don’t get why bugs like the one you have stay like that for a long time without getting fixed.. It was really scary indeed! I even re-applied thermal paste to my cpu! Couldn’t understand why all of a sudden my temps increased. Thing is that we will get stuck with GFE in the future we want it or not and that is plain wrong!
Whoa sweet, maybe I’ll be able to clock up nearly 20fps now lmao
IDK for you guys but this game looks waaay to generic like its filled with average or mediocre stock assets. Heck even Quake1 Mapjams & Retojams have better(awesome) map design (visit quaddicted for info)
DX10/DX11/DX12 won’t change the fact that the game is garbage. Same will happen with future releases if they keep delivering unfinished products with cra*py gameplay.
A “lovely looking” corridor doesn’t make a game.
I hope there will be a DX12 version of demo.
If I am to believe the people I’ve saw playing it, this performance boost is nothing to be praised off since the game is unoptimized as hell (aside from being a little bit pooey)
More shallow promises…
