Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas – PS2 Versus PC Versus Remaster Comparison

Rockstar has released a remastered version of Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas on X360, and YouTube’s ‘GTA Series Videos’ has shared a comparison between the PS2, the PC and the Remastered X360 versions. As we can see, the remastered version looks better than the PC version, though the changes can be considered subtle. There is a rumor that this remastered version will hit Steam at a later date, though nothing has been confirmed as of yet. For the time, enjoy the comparison video after the jump!

  1. Still waiting for Rockstar to finally update the steam version, I bought it on Friday hoping it be updated, sadly only the Xbox got it and we’re all sitting waiting for them to finally decide we can have it, PS3 owners don’t but I suspect Thursday they’ll get it

    1. In the wild (aka web) there are plenty of mods:graphics, vegetation, cars, planes, characters etc.

So why you should wait the “official” remastered version???
For the sake of gameplay GTA SA is the best, for HD graphic well maybe Gta IV. 😀

Not the best but still good:

    1. Yeah? I think the 360/ mobile version has better colors, road textures (at least), and shadows. I’m not sure about the main character’s new textures – they make him look gaunt and sickly.

But a modded PC version is probably better than any of the compared shots.

    2. Not at all. It’s time to admit the pc version is not the superior version or is your head shoved that far up your a*s that you can’t admit it?

    3. Not even remotely, at least not this version of GTA: SA.

But they should show off a modded version of the game instead, which makes GTA: SA shine in comparison to the Xbox 360 version of it.

    4. The vanilla PC version doesn’t look as good as the x360 remaster (if you compare both games at 720p), but modded is another story. With Enbseries, the silent patch, the widescreen fix and the 20x draw distance mod it looks way better than the remaster, not to mention that it also runs at 4k and 60 FPS.

It only needs native x360 controller support, which hopefully is coming on the next patch.

    5. OK now I look at it again I can see they are pretty close but the 360 version lighting is too warm it has better color in some places but it exaggerated

      1. After seeing the next-gen and PC version of GTA5 I expected more from this remake. That and I am surprised at how good the PC original version is compared to the PS2 version as I didn’t game on PC back then

        1. GTA:SA was my first PC game! lol
I never knew how different is the PC version compare to PS2 until I saw this video, Ive seen the Ps2 version too but I always thought its because of TV lol

          1. Yes I just watched the Eurogamer Digital Foundry comparison of this game on 360 and in some ways the PC version is still better as it has grass that has been removed from the 360 version. I didn’t own a PC back then so I was on PS2 but I am glad I didn’t see the PC version as I would have been gutted. LOL

      1. You are wrong, because sony was marketing the PS3 as a “jump” in graphics and resolution over the PS2 or any gaming platform ever on those days.So console gamers where the first to care about graphics, Im talking about 2004-2005.

        1. Just because Sony said that doesn’t mean people cared. You didn’t see any arguing about resolution back then

    1. it’s very hard to capture original picture quality from ps2 through S-Video or RGB cable (interlaced picture). PS2 standard resolution (640x480i) looks good only on CRT TV (15 eyars ago almost everyone had CRT)

  2. Uh for native Xbox 360 controller support, steam achievements and for not wasting $3 on re purchasing the steam copy.

I’ve enjoyed all the GTA’s just wanted to come back to it for the 10th anniversary aswell as the achievements

  3. San Andreas PC, was almost a straight PS2 port with some missing effects, nothing that modders has been fixing these years. This video is just a marketing strategy to make feel xboners that they are receiving “something special”. If you want real GTA SA experience, you must have the PC version and then install many mods that improves texture resolution, effects, FOV, better models, etc. Without mentioning the campaign mods, and the Multitheft Auto to play online.

    1. San Andreas wasn’t a straight PS2 port at all, just look at the video above which shows the original PC version against the original PS2 version above, the PC version looks nearly identical to the 360 version above.

  4. I don’t know but the PC version looks fcking epic when you consider how much older it is and it still runs at a higher resolution and more responsive controls from better frame rate.
I expected much more than a few nicer grass textures LOL

  5. So did Rockstar fix the 30 fps limit problems in the 360 remake? Driving School was impossible without locking your framerate in the PC version to 30 and driving in general was borked at higher framerates. That and the analog controller issues kept me from finishing this on PC. Would drop $15 on Rockstar to fix those problems.
