All hell broke loose yesterday when CD Projekt RED announced some exclusive physical content for the Collector’s Edition of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt on Xbox One. Fans started cursing CDPR for ‘betraying’ them. But are two decks of Gwent cards and a map of the in-game world enough to guarantee such an ‘uproar’? Well, here is what CDPR had to say about this whole thing.
“Here at CD Projekt Red, we always put gamers first. Our PC versions are released DRM-free, we bend over backwards to give you the most beefed up editions of our games (be it standard or Collector’s), and we deliver the same game, regardless of platform or version you buy. Moreover, we promised not have any exclusive DLCs, neither per platform nor per retailer, and we do stand by our promise–nothing has changed, nor will change in this regard.
Don’t get me wrong, I do understand that these extra items might be desirable for Witcher fans playing the game on other platforms. However, as we are not offering any platform or retail exclusive DLCs or any other form of gameplay differentiation, we do have to find other ways to support our partners. We are also providing special pre-order items for certain retailers around the world, including Witcher comic books, posters, steel books or medallions. Funnily enough, we did not notice any heated comments on the pre-order specials.
What is the reason? Why are we doing this? We need the support of partners to make our game visible worldwide. This should hopefully translate to better sales, which will in consequence allow us to do what we have been doing for the last 10 years, i.e. reinvest this money to make more great RPGs, while still sticking to our values.
If you still consider that adding two decks of Gwent cards and a map of the in-game world to the Xbox One CE equals us betraying our values and not fulfilling our promises, well, it does make us sad, but the final call is always yours to make.
Still, I do hope that what we offer is unique and we can ask you to give us the benefit of the doubt. We have more great things to announce for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt in the coming months and I promise you won’t be disappointed (yes, yes, there are no more exclusives coming).“

Funny enough: just today i Was looking the DLC from Black Flag, and they are INSANE. you must buy the game twice to play every DLC available just in PC. IT’S JUST INSANE!
and now I see this. I don’t care much about physical goodies, but I can get the point that some fans wanna have everything, but…CD projekt are just so…honest. “you see, we need to sold something for they to make us some advertising…so, sorry. we are doing everything we can to give the same game experience” looking at this after looking at Black flag…Hell, I’m feel sorry about CDProjekt cause they HAVE TO do something like this.
Just give us proper PC version like you did with the previous The Witcher games.
“What is the reason? Why are we doing this?
We need the support of partners to make our game visible worldwide.

Not really, you just lost my sale.
Awesome, another brain dead moron making stupid comments. I usually don’t insult anyone, but for freak sake…
upset xbutt fanboy detected.
Never owned an xbox. I just don’t like crybaby’s.
Stop crying then, kiddo.
Sure, I’m the immature here… who else?
your mom.
Damm, you do go low on this comments. But since your down there, blow me will you. Thanks fag it. By the way, while you suck your way to enlightenment down there, be sure to remember that it is probably the best moment of your life. Enjoy!
you seem upset, mad even.
I’m ok really. Actually been a while since I wrote stuff like this, so thanks for the fun! It’s good to be mad once in a while.
Its just physical things guys, give it a break. Ohhh xbox got extra cards!!! who cares.
They haven’t got extra resolution, zing!
“However, as we are not offering any platform or retail exclusive DLCs or any other form of gameplay differentiation, we do have to find other ways to support our partners.”
-Because letting them have one of the most anticipated games on their system or giving retailers something to sell so that they can stay in business isnt supportive enough?
TBH this exclusive preorder items crap doesnt bother me that much but I dislike how they try and worm out of things like this with bullshit instead of just being honest. They accepted a M$ bribe, thats the truth. This exclusive BS needs to stop even if it is just for a deck of cards and a map. Glad im not a collector.
Don’t be an ass! At least they aren’t changing the ingame content. It’s a business and MS offered they a solution that allowed more selling for xbox… so what? I would do the same.
At the end, they are still a company. Just be glad that they respect their fans. And if you want goodies, you can always buy those separate.
I have no problem with that . They have been showcasing their game at M$ conference since last year and they had been helping them with marketing and stuff . They just added some physical extras for Xbox instead of making it lead platform or making exclusive DLCs or making it exclusive to Xbox One (Tomb Raider) .
Most people didn’t pick on this but they have similar deal with Gamestop, You get exclusive key chain and poster. Not a big deal for me personaly as I didn’t preorder CE but yeah I can see how people who pay same amount of money as others and get less for it can be mad. Not to mention we all hold(ed) CDPRed as champions of gaming industry and this kinda ruins that look + they started as PC oriented devs.. F.. the cookies, don’t go to the dark side..
Witcher 2 already was consolized as hell with the QTEs and the clumsy UI and now all we hear about is the console version. From what they’ve been talking about in interviews, you might as well think this game wasn’t on PC at all because they’ve been keeping mighty quiet about that.
Let’s hope they don’t completely go the way of Crytek.
A “consolized” game is capped at 30/60fps, scales poorly across even the most high-end GPUs & looks EXACTLY like the console versions. THAT WAS NOT THE WITCHER 2, imbecile.
Easy there, that’s your definition of the term. I would argue that there are different grades of consolization. What you are describing is pretty much the worst case possibly. It would be foolish though to deny that a game fits the same description only because it has less symptoms. TW2 was clearly designed more with a controller in mind than with KB&M.
All your argument boils down to is semantics. Call it what you want but TW2 was not a pure PC game. It had obvious signs that when they designed it from the ground up they were considering consoles and gamepads right from the start. That’s sadly a fact, no matter what you want or don’t want to call that phenomenon.
as long as they don’t cut any in game content, i’m ok with it. after all we buy games digitaly, so it doesn’t matter to me if some platform has extra physical goodies
Its physical content that we doesnt care anyways. whats is the upset?
Wrong, the physical content is the only thing that matters beside the actual game with no bonuses or extra beneficial material. CE’s are supposed to be for the ones that enjoy getting physical goodies, and usually pays quite a bit more for it. I have to admit that a deck of cards and cloth map isn’t worth much rant but it’s the idea behind collectors having to get multiple versions to get everything, rather than the actual content in this case.
I never pre-order anything out of principle. But for those collectors who did, that must really suck. Especially since this announcement came two months late.
It’s also worrying that CDPR took Microsoft’s money. Let’s hope it ends here but I am somehow concerned it might not. This could potentially be another Watch Dogs situation.
CDPR have said numerous times in interviews that all three versions of the game will give you exactly the same experience. People have dismissed that as just “PR talk” but what if it’s not? It certainly looks like more of a possibility now.
I have to say that those recent gameplay videos also did not really live up to the early screenshots that were released. So either those were bullshots or the current version we are seeing videos from has already been downgraded from those early builds.
This is definitely a slippery slope into exclusive DLC content in future games. It seems like you can’t put your complete trust into any company or corporation; they will eventually screw you over :
One can understand that they’re trying to grow as a company and have as
much publicity as possible for the game, but to those that have pre ordered an
expensive edition don’t they deserve the same as any xbox player? MS might of helped them but one could forsee that others would be upset over this.
I see this as a failure since some will cancel their orders in order to spite CD projekt RED resulting in more loss than gain, I’m happy with a standard edition so it doesn’t affect me, even if those cards look good.
I doubt CDPR will change their minds and remove it, but you’ll see these items popping up on ebay soon after release.
That’s a people thing… Judging too quickly. I mean come on, what the heck? All CEs are damn good already.
also pfft… some people actually used the word “Betray”, like it hurt their princess little feelings or something. Dumbasses…
You gotta understand that those people paid a lot of money, as long as two months ago, to purchase the ultimate and complete (!) collectors edition, some mainly for the goodies, others more just to support a company they love and expect to be loved back by. But now, after they already made their orders, it is revealed to them that their version is in fact not complete and that the complete version is tied to Xbone, so they couldn’t even purchase that one for their system of choice if they wanted to.
Sure, it seems petty when you look at it from the outside but I can understand being pissed about not getting the best version, considering the amount of money they are laying down, and the fact that they were led to believe that what they were purchasing was the complete and best version that there ever would be. They were lied to and that is pretty much the definition of betrayal, so they are not over reacting in using that word.
Lied to? I’m sorry but no one lied to them. No one said, “Hey! you’re getting everything in this bundle and there won’t be anything different in the other versions.” If they’ve paid already, they’ve paid for those items understanding what they were. They accepted the items. No one’s lying to them, no one’s taken out anything that was promised.
I really don’t know where you came up with the betrayal logic. If you’ve preordered it, great then cancel it. however, if you have actually pre-purchased it, then too bad. still you are getting what you were promised, no one has taken away anything.
seriously to sum it up no one lied to you and what you paid for you are still getting, and no one promised anything else.
Lying by omission is still lying and if you have to justify their actions by talking like an asshole lawyer, that already says it all. That’s no way to treat your most loyal fans.
Also no, I didn’t purchase anything yet. I don’t do pre-orders but I feel sorry for the folks that put their trust into CDPR and got shat on.
Learn it industry!!!
Learn how to sell your games and not be a bunch of d!cks!!!
Whatever you say mate, read my whole comment next time before replying.
I think this is a polite way of them saying “If we didn’t added these exclusive stuff to the box version, the retailer would hide our game from the shelf”
nope… as I said, they promised “those” things, and asked a set amount of value for “those” things. If you do buy them, you agree to not only their items but also their quantity.
Now if you were to say that they deliberately held back something you were promised in exchange for currency, then yes they’re lying.
Also for God’s sake the main product is the video game, for which everyone is getting the equal content, everything else is promotional for that said product.
To put it in simple terms, if they thought what they saw before was enough for them to put their money on, I really don’t see why they’re making a fuss for an inclusion of item on a different platform.
finally CDPR are the last people that need to learn from someone about how to treat their customers. They’ve always stood by their customers, and now when it is time for the customers to stand by them, they’re bitching.
CDPR has done stuff for their community that most companies can only dream of.
