Project CARS – Official PC System Requirements Revealed

Slightly Mad Studios has just revealed the official PC system requirements for its upcoming racer, Project CARS. According to the team, PC gamers will need at least a quad-core CPU and 4GB of VRAM. Quite surprisingly for this gorgeous looking title, the game’s recommended VRAM requirements are quite low (2GB). Obviously, those seeking to enjoy it at 4K will need more than that. You can view both minimum and recommended PC specs below.

MINIMUM SPEC:
-CPU – 2.66 GHz Intel Core 2 Quad Q8400, 3.0 GHz AMD Phenom II X4 940
-GRAPHICS – nVidia GTX 260, ATI Radeon HD 5770
-MEMORY – 4Gb RAM, 1Gb VRAM

RECOMMENDED SPEC:
-CPU – 3.5 GHz Intel Core i7 3700, 4.0 GHz AMD FX-8350
-GRAPHICS – nVidia GT600 series, AMD Radeon HD7000 series
-MEMORY – 8Gb RAM, 2Gb VRAM

    1. Why i cant wait for better mantle intergration and directx 12. Having said that, Lazy devs will always be lazy and not take the time to optimize. Amazes me how the batman arkham series will run at 60fps on almost any setup. That is a well made engine.

  1. 2gb of vram REQUIRED is low?

Don’t be absurd. 2gb is more than enough for a 1080p framebuffer with tons of graphics.

It’s just that modern game development is so expensive with the assetts alone that very little time is spent on optimization these days. I dont even think these guys spend much time compressing textures. You can compress textures to 1/10th the size and the quality is 99% the same, if you spend the time and use good compression algorithms. They dont even do stuff as basic as that anymore. Look at Titanfall on PC with it’s 30-40gb of uncompressed audio.. WTF?

    1. “Next-Gen” gives studios an excuse not to optimize or include graphical options to configure. I’m looking at you, Watch_Dogs.

    2. But… But… Those guys with the Studio-level quality Headphones must get their money’s worth! 😉

Seriously though, bad optimization (& more recently compression) has been a long-standing issue with the Industry. Everyone likes to point to Crysis, but the truth is it was badly optimized as well, as proven by Warhead which ran far better due to CryEngine’s Optimizations.

It’s a combination of laziness + lack of resources, (the former more often than the latter). Though sometimes they do occasionally honestly just run out of time, it’s just not often the case.

      1. The difference between uncompressed and compressed audio is in high frequencies. There are music albums where you can’t even tell the difference between flac and hq mp3, since there are not much of high frequency sounds.

There are also albums where a recording quality is below average, and no matter how you will listen them (flac of even wav), they will sound like sh*t.

Of course a good album in wav is always good, but what does it have to do with games? You can just put 256 kbps ogg, and no one will be able to tell the difference, because no one cares.

I’m sure Respawn know it. They probably feared that someone will launch a pirate server like AlterIWnet for Modern Warfare. So they made the client as big as they could.

        1. ”So they made the client as big as they could”

Care to explain what this is and how it would prevent piracy?

          1. vg247/com/2014/05/28/wolfenstein-the-new-order-torrent-has-been-pirated-over-100000-times-already/

There are simply no other reasons for keeping uncompressed audio files.

    3. for now,for textures maybe..but in incoming years 3gb vram might be the minimum…gpu manufacturer like nvidia also already release new generation of gpu with 3gb vram atleast….previous gdc presentation and analyze by pc hardware sites also already hinted for that
beside for rendering high quality antialiasing also need alot of memories for example there are benchmark by tomshardware indicate that required around 2gb memories for 8xmsaa…not count textures, framebuffer and others stuff
few years ago might be 1gbvram be enough to render 1080p,but recent benchmark shown incoming years the memory required might be increase

  2. “recommended VRAM requirements are quite low (2GB)”
you know ,it’s not the best looking game ever created (remove rain etc from it and it’s a mediocre looking game), right ? and you know 2GB is not low, not low by any means and plus it needs freaking 8GB system memory. after all they want to sell their game to people not selling it to minor +2GB vram owners

    1. 4.0Ghz for the FX8350, since the IPC is higher in the Intel CPU-s, AMD CPUs will need to compesate by increasing the cpu clock.

    1. holly shitttttttttttt but i dont think its legit cause even best looking game (crysis 3) doesn’t melt pc that much if so damn prepare for the worst

    2. it looks fake, a 780ti or 690 with 3GB vram and 2GB and 16GB system memory and a top end CPU can’t hit 60fps in 1080p without AA ? so benchmark is fake or the game is F’ed up. this game doesn’t even look the great, sure it looks good in rain but any video i saw without rain etc… was a huge let down. gameplay looked mediocre in videos specially with those shaky paper weight cars.

      1. It’s not fake. However, It’s a performance chart from one of the really early Alpha community builds so it’s safe to say you can ignore it.

    3. What kind of settings are used there? I played this game in 2012 when my friend had it and it ran 60fps with something like 7850 and i3, not on ultra but with relatively good settings.

  3. Shift 2 had some excellent optimization so this does not surprise me at all. Sounds about right.

  4. GT600 looks weird for these requirements. It looks like another downgraded title for consoles, since they don’t have a good GPU. Same sh*t we’ve already seen in Watch Dogs: i7+3gb VRAM and yet, it doesn’t require anything above GTX 760. Wtf?

  5. Actually PS4 is a 7850/R265 and handicapped with the CPU.

And it still is downgraded. PS4/Xbone versions won’t have Global Illumination and enhanced dynamic lighting in the last few shots SMS showed with mid-high settings on both while PC easily can go ultra. Not as bad as The Order: 800P’s downgrade (lol) but PC’s already outmuscling consoles to a hilarious degree even with mid spec builds

I’d say a 7870/R270 could handle it on all high, maybe even some ultra settings flipped on and have no problem with 60FPS. Anyone with a R290 and 780Ti is in for a treat.

    1. one more thing they usually remove from consoles is tessellation. PCars have it on PC but not consoles, same as sniper elite and tomb raider

        1. yes, i don’t know it has and option to turn it off or on but on ultra is use tessellation.
yes, sniper elite uses tessellation on PS4 but only on some surfaces like cars etc only when you look at them closely but on PC it use tessellation if you want anywhere any distance. in short it’s not even on low.

          1. “on ultra is use tessellation” Do you have any proof for that claim? Is it written somewhere? Some devs said that? I dont believe it, but i hope i am wrong.

          2. the image quality is not very good but at least it’s something.

            Up:Ultra
            Down:High

look at headlights and their curves.
PS4 version is pair with Medium.

          3. Thats not proof. The “ultra” model can be just different model detailed in 3d software and not being tessellated realtime. So you dont have any “proof”? Just your opinion?

          4. nope, both pictures were taken real time in game. that round shape on headlight is tessellated, you can’t do this without tessellation and make it as smooth as it is in the picture. i’m not saying it’s a fact and it used tessellation 100% but my evidance is somthing at lest than saying it didn’t used Tessellation, so anyone who says it didn’t used tessellation then they can proof that with better evidance.

PS: why it is so important or unbelieveable for you ? tessellation is not a 2014 phenomena, lots of games used tessellation for years.

          5. ” you can’t do this without tessellation and make it as smooth as it is in the picture.” That is NOT TRUE!

“i’m not saying it’s a fact and it used tessellation 100%” and yet you wrote “PCars have it on PC” like it is 100% true. That is my problem.

You just dont know. Thats all i need to know.

          6. i know i’m not sire, i know that this can be tessellated but i’m not sure because this can’t be something else. at least i shared a picture instead of saying it won’t, like you.

            “That is NOT TRUE”
yeah, they can go for more higher models and use more taxing solution instead of using less texing and easier solution.

            “That is my problem”
            why ?

“You just dont know. Thats all i need to know.”
so you don’t know it either.

    2. yeah, i liked the art style in destiny, character models are nice too, but man, gameplay is repetitive from the beginning, missions are look the same etc…
