Sony London’s Environment Artist Finishes Star Wars Episode I: Racer Map In CRYENGINE

If you thought that game developers and artists are not experimenting with different game engines, well… you are in for a surprise. Sony London’s Environment Artist, Ben Keeling, has been working – these past months – on a map inspired by Star Wars Episode I: Racer in CRYENGINE. This map started as an Unreal Engine 4 project but Ben decided to switch over to CRYENGINE. And today, Sony’s artist shared the final images from this finished map. Enjoy!

  1. Impressive as hell, this is why I dont want crytek and cryengine to go down under. because of beauty like these.

Well if they do go under the Engine won’t go anywhere, someone will buy it likely for pennies on the dollar. It is an impressive engine, they need some impressive business moxy to support it.

        1. @vito_a16:disqus Agreed, not sure how that would shake out post fallout. They’d have to hire them just like anyone else.

    2. I, too, don’t want to see Crytek going under, as I’ve been a huge fan of their philosophy of pushing graphical fidelity and GPUs to their limit throughout the years, but it’s no secret that Cryengine has recently been surpassed by UE4, graphically and price-wise, and their past few games just haven’t done too well, financially. I’m definitely hoping they can pull something together to stay afloat.

      1. Price-wise, sure. Graphically? Arguable. Far as the actual development process however, Unreal 4 is by far superior to CryEngine, not only because the CryEngine SDK is bug-riddled to hell & back.

Crytek won’t go under, they have the capability to save themselves by scaling back, & they will if they’re smart. That, or they’ll take the shortcut route & sell out, like so many before them, in which case there’ll be severe cutbacks anyway.

    3. Now that Star Citizen has entered the scene and announced mod support these assets may make really nice ports 😀

  2. A SONY employee? Combine this with the rumor that Sony is considering to buy Crytek and things just got interesting.

The Star Wars rights are firmly in EA’s hands though so this cannot lead to an actual game.

    1. Honestly, such an amazing middleware engine going exclusive scares me. Sony already has great in-house proprietary tech. The way that Cryengine and UE4 were being sold (low subscription fee) was to get those indie devs who couldnt afford the license to try it out and in return we get more prettier games.

    2. It’s a Sony employee creating graphics for a better platform he wishes he was working on.

Also that was a MisterTiduxMedia rumor so crap anyway.

    1. Of Phantom Menace, the biggest disappointment in sci-fi history? 🙂

Need I remind you of Jar Jar?

      1. only because mmos are nto big on consoles if it was up to sony they would never touch pcs, they want to kill pc gamingand replace it with playstation.

    1. Deep Silver already hinted they were interested directly through the company twitter account.

So much more valid than a Sony “Insider” who is wordfiltered to “Tales From My Ass” on Neogaf (And Neogaf is Sony fanboy central)

  3. Well considering this, maybe there’s some truth to that rumor of Sony buying Crytek after all, oh man the xtot cry babies will blow a head gasket, cant wait.

    1. Then Sonydrones will cry rivers when it turns out these graphics can only run at 1080P and 60FPS on PC

PC always wins. Sony drones should stay off a PC Master Race website :^)

    2. whats that? cant hear you over yoshida saying that only 4/10 exlusives they release are making profit and the rest fail in sales, not to mention saying that because AAA games are getting expensive and sonys finacials are crap filled with debt, ps4 will have less exlusives.

Greatness was a lie and you sonytards believe that nonsense, if anyone buys crytek it will be MS since they got the money to do it.

Face it ms will have more exlusives this gen becuase sony is dying.

  4. Lol, are gamers supposed to scream “Woooow, killer graphixxx!” when looking at those?
Low poly counts and baked texturing are so last-gen. No videos in motion, these are just rendered screens without gameplay, ai, or complex simulation. Even a last-gen game called Rage runs similar ‘eye-sandy’ scenes at steady 60fps on all platforms.

Here comes my salty fanatics to damage control in pure madness……

  5. Deep Silver is also a multi platform company with a strong PC support just like Ubisoft. Lol Crytek made Ryse Spybox1 exclusive and all… and bankcrupty looming! I guess EA could be called a multi platform company but they are way too much into DLC porn, rumors already say that their upcoming Sim game has had features cut out which EA are plotting to sell as DLC.

    1. Thats EA for you. Worst company of the year two years in a row. Anyone who supports the Spybox 1 or POS4 seems cursed while publishers who treat PC as the lead platform like Deep Silver or Devolver Digital are advancing in the world. Wonder if there’s a link between that?

      1. “Wonder if there’s a link between that?” Yes there is, PC gaming rules! Its a very simple formula actually: Good PC games sold at a reasonable price (20-40 bucks, unlike Sony who nowadays charges over 80 bucks at PSN) and we have a win/win situation! A minor correction thou: Its not EA for you, but EA for us! Also its about time to take upcoming Polish company CD Projekt RED seriously. Too many to name here but it seems that European based companies are not as money greedy as American based ones.

        1. Yet. They’re too small to get grabby for now, but don’t forget, the almighty beast that is Ubisoft the Greedy has their HQ in Paris.

Plus the Sellouts of the Decade that are DICE are a Sweden-based Studio…. :I

          1. Perhaps DICE should do just as John Carmack did and just leave? Have DICE not made anything but boring militant Battlefield games for EA for the last 10 years ? I mean how incredible boring arent these games and COD ? NO great black comedy or anything, just shoot and kill? Thank GOD for Swedish Avalance Studios, Just Cause 2 is so awesome, and their teaser trailer for their upcoming Mad Max was hillarious!

          2. The “original” DICE team already left years ago, all that’s left now is the top-tier which sold out in the first place & have careers at EA now, & the morons/mindless zombies that EA brought on board in recent years to pump out CoD-Clone pieces of shit.

Unfortunately, unlike Infinity Ward, they didn’t quit en-masse & formed a new Studio, so now the old BF2-Era Team are scattered all over the world 🙁

But yeah DICE has been reduced to pumping out shitty Clone Content now, as proven by Battlefield 4 being little other than an oversized, overpriced Expansion Pack to Battlefield 3. Not to mention EA’s upcoming generic Battlefield: Cops & Robbers Game, which will once again entail nothing of what the Battlefield series is (was) truly about.
