Well, this is nothing new, right? We’ve seen in the past this kind of things but since both PS4 and Xbox One are out, you’d expect that their demos would be running on – you know – those consoles themselves. It appears this is not the case with Batman: Arkham Knight as Rocksteady confirmed that the demo that was shown during Sony’s conference was running on the PC.
When asked about the platform in which the game was running, Rocksteady’s Dax Ginn confirmed (during Gamespot’s E3 livestream, head over at 4:37:00 mark):
“This is the PC build.”
So there you have it everyone. One of the most anticipated games that amazed pretty much all gamers during Sony’s conference was running on the PC (which means that the console builds may not look or run as sexy as this one).
Now the good news for PC gamers is that there wasn’t any stuttering side-effect. We all know that the previous Batman games suffered from such issues, so thankfully this new one (that will be powered by an enhanced version of Unreal Engine 3) will run smoother.

What level is that at on the PC settings? The high setting water is identical to the console version, ultra water is better yeah. The only way you can compare is with uncompressed screenshots, utube videos are practically useless.
The whole texture thing is the problem for PC, consoles don’t have the problem running ultra textures because they have the unified memory, more to spare for textures equivalent to a 4GB VRAM card.

actually console version of it have problem with textures, they are running at high (at best) still games dips to 20fps time to time. it’s not just ram they have a weak laptop CPU,a 3years old mid-low GPU and that is not enough for processing those textures, memory alone wont help, even if they have 100GB. sure GDDR5 will help more for streaming textures but what about other things ?

Amir, don’t become a blinded PC fanboy, see it as it is, the consoles do have more memory to use now regardless of frame-rate locks and resolution. A 2GB VRAM card stutters with high textures not because it’s badly optimised but because high textures use more than 2GB of VRAM, the 2 consoles can utilise to 5.5GB and not swap across a bus for memory.
One pool of memory means they can take what memory they need for system or video, unlike the PC which has to take across the bus from system memory (RAM) and GPU memory(VRAM),

You right Amir, something is not OK with W_D Vram usage. Even TITAN users experience stuttering, and titan is 6 GB Vram card. Sometimes Vram usage can go as high as 5.5 GB (at only 1080p + MSAAx4), clearly memory leak.
I think we know there is something odd with the memory but it’s still the fact that people are using higher textures than they have VRAM. Also Aero uses 80-100MB of VRAM and someone has put up a large page registry tweak for Windows, which supposed to really help stop the stuttering.

It stutters on a 6GB card because someone told you it does, probably not even related to the issue. Medium doesn’t stutter, high stutters because it’s over 2GB VRAM, some people say it stutters, some people don’t ,those people who say it doesn’t use GTX 760 4GB.
People say it runs like sh*t on their Titans are morons, they won’t be happy util the game runs at 1000fps and call 999fps is a badly optimised game. Also, SLI scaling is not very good but 70fps on a 760 4GB SLI is soooooooo bad, let’s cry.

Some people get problems, some people don’t and the people that do make out most people do have problems. If I be honest, The Witcher 2 is an unoptimised piece of crap stutter, LOD mess that’s was full of bugs, still like the game though.
Sean, I have already read about Vram issue on few benchmark articles/sites, they all wrote about problems on titan 6GB cards (not to mention posts from guru3d members), so I would not call it just “someone” as you kindly put it, because that would imply people without knowledge and experience. No current game should stutter on that amount of memory. because it’s even more, than ps4 could allocate just for textures (around 5.5GB). For me Ubisoft is the worst company when it comes to optimising their ports, for example they even had problems with porting prince of persia, and splinter cell 1 and pandora tomorrow on ps3 (from xbox 1 !!!!), games stutters and run even at 14-22 fps range (as anyone could see in eurogamer videos). Whats funny, I could even forgive ubisoft bad optimisation, as long as W_D was really looking like true next gen game. But no, it looks like mixture of ps2-ps3-ps4 details, and on top of that, it runs bad :). In fact W_D is not even a good game :D, for example car driving is the worst I have ever seen in any sanbox game… but people still try to defend W_D 🙂
Your opinion mate, my wife doesn’t see a problem with the driving, it feels fine to her and she plays GTA a lot. The bikes feel a bit floaty but cars feel fine.
I think you’ve forgot about GTA4 then, what a pile of sh*t that was port wise, AC4, people still moan about that, Skyrim as well. False on a lot of levels. Amir is right in his above post, the “Next-Gen” (Last Gen PC’s) are running on weeeeak CPU’s, terrible hard drives, and a Video module that is already outdated on release. Thats why the consoles cant even touch PC’s. Beleive me, if you see uncompressed 1080p screenshots comparing all 3 side by side, its not even clooose. Also, the RAM is not that much of a factor, because the consoles are using 3 gb’s for the OS as is, where as PC’s can have 8GB of ram + 2GB+ of dedicated VRAM that isnt spent on the OS.

On PC (non APUs) 8GB of system RAM is useless for video, VRAM only matters, Aero takes 100MB of that. The consoles don’t need to swap from system ram to VRAM across the bus, sorry mate, go learn what I said.
6GB RAM pool is totally for games, it can be given to video or game no graphics usage, unlike PC which once it runs out of VRAM has to go to very slow system RAM across the bus again and performance goes to sh*t. If you don’t have enough system RAM is then has to go to page file, which is horribly slow.

As I said, consoles have about 5.5GB for everything, they don’t have to swap across the bus to system RAM when VRAM runs out. 2GB is not fine, it’s the end of games running 1-2GB of VRAM because the console can use a lot more.

If you have trouble running the game on higher textures/AA, drop them or upgrade, simple, you dont need to jump ship immediately unless you want to, no matter who says what. This is why PC Gamers get into ridiculous yearly upgrade cycles, if you want to upgrade, then sure, but you’re not going to die if you dont, which is why older cards are still running games decently, It’s like everyone needs to max games or it’s the end of the world.

I didn’t say DF was wrong, I showed a shot of ultra options PC and PS4, not PC high to PS4 high, DF did it not me.
Alot of games use over 3GB on PC, it’s called “Caching”, I’ve seen Titanfall “using” upwards of 5GB, even games on 4GB cards running fine on their equivalent 2GB cards all whilst using over 2GB, its only safe to say it’s hitting a vram wall when you have inferior performance on cards with less ram, and currently 290s and 780s are having similar problems, the problem is the game and it’s in no way shape or form capable of setting benchmarks with the mess its in, and again, this is only ONE game that gives 3GB cards trouble.
290s and 780s have same stuttering and performance problems, the problem lies with the game, and this is just ONE game that practically every PC Gamer knows was not done right.
I wouldn’t say it’s more than enough, some games are giving it trouble, Titanfall’s textures look like crap, and it fills the ram to the brim because of the lack of texture streaming, which is why 2GB cards will have trouble running Ultra textures, I’d say 2GB is okay at the moment, maybe not for the highest texture quality in some games, 3GB+ is what people want to be shooting for on newer GPUs from now on.

It doesn’t run fine on your 2GB card( I have the same one), because high textures stutter, try 1600×900 high settings, high textures, temporal SMAA, tell me your average frame-rate and tell me it doesn’t stutter and keep above 30fps always with MHBAO on 🙂
The consoles are locked because it’s best experience for TV’s and a constant FPS is better(so they claim), doesn’t mean the FPS won’t go above 30 if they were unlocked. The evidence for that is that the locked frame-rate never drops into the 20s, so we can say that they have some headroom.

660 Ti @ 1304mhz – i5 3570k and 8GB ram, and a tweaked win7 (stoped more than 20 services,no indexing,no visuals less than 1GB memory usage and more room for CPU to breath)

We need to unite about it, not fight about it just because of consoles, they do have hardware benefits, they always have. People can’t say the video is wrong because they have an axe to grind about consoles.

“console” in the xml file looks suspect. The deferredfx option is on “console” by default, yet “pc” looks better with the explosions and particle lighting.

Well, from what I’ve seen it looks like high and the textures are better than on a 2GB VRAM PC GPU because the consoles have more memory to play with for video(in fact consoles could be running ultra texture quality since they have the 3.5GB required). I’ve not seen any uncompressed PS4 shots so it’s impossible to verify but the game isn’t as intensive as claimed really anyway. People have it wrong about the optimisation of the engine,
it’s very good for a completely open world game and no loading screens because the data is being streamed in realtime, with lots of texture variation and dynamics.
It still runs like crap until Ubisoft fix it, I wouldn’t really call it an intensively demanding game, but the stuttering on tons of systems is what creates a big problem, that and the 3GB vram Ultra requirement is another reason why the system requirements look so high.
Wrong, VRAM requirements are going up because consoles have much more memory for video with their unified architecture, next PC video cards will have to come with 4GB as standard to compete with the PS4/XB1.
How am I wrong?, they even admitted that they are reliant on the unified memory hence the reason for the performance and vram requirements, how many GPUs have 3GB+ vram?, if anything the consoles were their main focus. At the end of the day the game performs like crap on a multitude on systems, whether its stuttering or crashing, clearly not enough testing was undergone and it was likely rushed out.
The PS4 has 6GB at its disposal which will be shared between the game and the graphics, and this will have to be split/shared between the game and the video memory.
AMD’s been doing the right thing with their vram, giving their 7900s 3GB, and 290s 4GB, Nvidia skimped on the memory with the 600-700 giving most of them 2GB on their debut, (680, 690) and the 780 3GB on its debut
You don’t understand unified memory, it’s one pool of memory access the same way. On the PC VRAM and system ram have to be accessed across the bus and when VRAM runs out, it has to go across the bus again for much slower system RAM. How do you think accessing two types of memory affects games then? You think that having to access it is fast two times over and DDR3 for video RAM on top?
Face facts, it works for APUs on PC’s as well, it’s just that they use DDR3 for graphics bandwidth which is far slower than GDDR5. However, PC can’t use GDDR5 for system memory, it’s terrible for desktop and media latency.
Unified memory is best for gaming only, PC’s don’t game only so they need DDR for low latency, even PS4 has some DDR3 for it’s UI because GDDR is poor.
Also, Carmack has been saying for years about this for the PC, he even worked with Intel and last year talked about how IGP is getting faster on the PC.
I’m not stupid, I have an in-depth understanding how the hardware works.
You’re not telling me anything new, no offense, they have one pool of memory, yes that’s it, and they can allocate the 6GB to whatever they need to, on PC we have split pools, system memory, say for instance 8GB system ram, and 2-4GBGB vram, you’ve got one main pool of memory for the graphics card, and another for the application/game, if it exceeds the vram amount it’ll end up swapping between the hard drive or system memory and slow down dramatically.
The PC has VRAM limitations now with these new consoles being able to utilise more for video. They use over 3GB for video and yet people can’t entertain the idea that the textures are ultra quality like PC and they don’t need as much system ram. Windows uses 1GB+ regardless.
If they dont need much system ram why has the PS4 only got 6GB to use out of it’s 8GB? clearly 2GB has gone somewhere.
I’ve said it over and over, ONE game gives 3GB trouble and that’s Watch_Dogs, stop.
And alot of the vram usage is caching, they can load things quicker then loading them from the game data. It’s too early to say “3GB IS NOT ENOUGH!” When ONE crappy running game has problems, I’m waiting for Witcher 3 etc.

Watch Dogs uses 3.5GB of VRAM on ultra textures and ultra settings for the entire game no matter where you go and no loading screens.
It’s called, caching, the same way how Titanfall can use 6GB of vram and doesn’t need it.
If it’s used for the CPU cores, it’s most likely used for the SYSTEM, it’s using the 2GB for the operating system and so on.
And again, waiting for a game to give 3GB problems, not just ONE game.
What are you trying to accomplish?.
I’m done here, I’m not going to repeat myself over and over, no one’s talking about Crysis 3, and that’s at 1440p, is it using more vram a surprise? People have run Crysis 3 on 3GB at 2560x1440p, there’s tons of benchmarks which show vram comparisons on equivalent cards giving out equivalent performance on various games, like the 780 3GB and 6GB, only ONE game has given 3GB trouble and that is Watch_Dogs which isn’t in any decent state to set benchmarks.
I’m going to call you stupid for one reason, your can’t get past the fact that WD is the most complex open world game to date and you compare single level loading games which actually use just as much VRAM.
Now, come back and think about it a bit rather than the silly benchmarks with scripted linear level games.

Use a bit of logic dude, the PC version is one of the first open world games ported from the PS4/XB1 which is using more unified memory, it’s not a game ported from the XBox360 so use some logic working out why said what I said as well.

Actually unified mem is coming to PCs (Maxwell and AMD’s 2014-2015 GPUs use an integrated CPU on the PCB so it’s about 70-80% unified because it still has to transfer data through PCB lanes albeit much shorter than PCIe to CPU).

Having played both PC and PS4 versions, Watch Dogs on PS4 looks and runs great. I would say, high settings = PS4. Also, DF said the PS4 version looks and runs great.

Having played both PC and PS4 versions, the PS4 versions looks really good. Sure on Ultra, PC takes the cake, but the PS4 comes in a close second. The biggest difference I saw between the PC and PS4 was the shadows. On the PS4 it’s on high, on the PC it goes up to Ultra.
I don’t think they should’ve showed it if it wasn’t running on PS4. WB probably paid for the advertising after their game’s public delay. Sony had pleanty in the stable to show, I was sad they spent time on multi-plat games that aren’t coming until 2015. Let the publishers show off their multi-plats during their own conferences or at their booths, especially if we won’t see those games till late 2015.

People like to get hype for everything, even some damn screen captures, get hype where there is playable demos, thats the way to show a game, not just showing some images on a larger screen.

Two of the games that I was mostly excited about were Phantom Dust and Bloodborne.
Phantom Dust was all CGI, same for Bloodborne (although it’s allegedly in game footage – okay sure lol).
I was excited for Phantom Dust because the original on the Xbox was fun, it has a dedicated fanbase that’s been there since day one. It was exciting to know that there’s a “sequel” coming up on the Xbox One. That’s what I was excited about.
The same for bloodborne (known as Project Beast). I had read and seen some of the screenshots before E3, but I was somewhat skeptical, I thought they were just a hoax. A few screenshots from Dark souls and Demons Souls with some Photoshop and it could have been fake.
Yet when Shushei Yoshida announced it, and saw that it was indeed Project Beast (renamed Bloodborne) I was excited. The game does exist. I am a huge Fromsoftware fan, back since King’s Field on the PSone, and Shadow Tower – which Bloodborne reminds me a lot of.
I’m agnostic when it comes to platforms, I buy and play consoles depending on whether or not there’s enough games that interest me. Right now, I’m interested in a Wii U because of Zelda, I’m interested in the Xbox One because of Phantom Dust, and I already have a PS4.
I’m interested in upgrading my rig next year after NVIDIA releases the Maxwell lines… In the meantime I’m hanging on to my 650 Ti and my 760 4 GB cards. I have two gaming PC’s. Well actually, I use the 650 Ti to do some work on Unity, UDK. The 760 I use to play games.
I like games, it doesn’t matter what platform, but the PlayStation has a special place in my heart because of childhood nostalgia, lol.
It’s interesting to see individuals arguing over a piece of hardware. Sure some are better than the others but I believe that it all depends on the kind of games you like. If you only like PC, that’s fine, but in my opinion you’re missing out on other games that are not on PC. The same for console-only players, they’re missing out on TONS of great games on PC.
Yes people get hype for screenshots, and CGI trailers. Let me tell you, the first time I read about Star Citizen and saw some of the screenshots I was amazed. I was very hyped about the game until I saw some of the gameplay footage. It looks very promising, but it was a bit of a let down. It’s all about the Illusion of the First Time. The first time you see something is very important in one’s judgement of whether or not you like something. This is something console-developers go for. Sometimes they want to impress and it backfires when the game is not as good as the trailer. The original Dead Island trailer comes to mind.
Still, I don’t think it’s a bad thing. Now, it’s interesting to see that I’m called a PC elitist by console gamers, and a console peasants by PC gamers. Now these are the most extreme individuals out there, and in my opinion the very definition of a fanboy.

PC and PS4 are different markets with different pros and cons. PS4 has price/performance and simplicity, PCs have a higher potential performance, but generally more expensive and requires time and knowledge to buy, build, and maintain one.
Not everyone wants to game on PCs, if they wanted a gaming PC they would have bought one.
PS4 has some interesting architecture benefits over traditional split CPU/GPU split memory pool PCs, and other GPGPU customizations. PS4 is comparable to a mid range PC at 1.84TF considering the APU and GPGPU architecture benefits and low level single platform coding. For $400 you get a lot of price/performance, more than a $400 PC would get you. PS4 is better than most PCs. PS4 will have lots of good exclusives, both console only and PS4 only.
Xbox/PC fanboys seem to be on a war on people too poor or unwilling/unable to spend time and money buying, building, and maintaining a PC. Mustard race claiming they can afford multi-thousand dollar PCs but too poor to buy a $200-400 console.
Both PS4 and Xbox will have good exclusive games, high end PCs are best for multiplatform games if you have the time, money, and effort to build and maintain one. Only deranged fanboys keep chewing their own legs off screaming about “PS4 peasants”.

Because i like GAMES not itneractive movies, i was looking at 2 previews about the order and both of them said the game is extremely scriped and linear, one said that a cutscene kicked in every 2 enemy kills, i dont want cutscenes to constantly interact my gameplay, i dont like interactive movies.
I came from the 90s where games improved techinically, with better physics, ai and combinations in game design and innovation.
Now all games are pretty much the same, the industry has turned gaming into samey corridor shooters with no innovation, pathetic ai, samey gameplay and barely any advancements.
i remember when i played hl2, i imagined the future will bring bigger maps, amazing ai, more physics and destruction and combination with other gameplay elements like rpg elements.
The future is sadly a linear scripted corridor shooter that has to sell 5 million to survive.
I HATE what the industry has turned into, which is making interactive hollywood movies than games.
I support the indie scene that brings alot of innovative games, without the AAA publishers putting their filthy hands in the game and chanigng it and dumbing it down to “appeal ot a larger audience” and ruin it.

Readyatdawn found that the 2.40:1 aspect ratio allowed them to have the same pixel density as 1080p (and by the way, most bluray movies ARE 2.40:1, 1920×800), but it also allowed them to have performance benefits compared to a full 1080p. It worked, and they were upfront with why. I don’t see how they lied to us when they told us the difference between x800 and x1080. It was an artistic choice. If they went with x800 then they obviously had to present it in a film-like state.

I haven’t retried any Batman games since they came out, but the newer Nvidia drivers have really boosted performance for me in open-world games like Saints Row 3 and Skyrim. Higher framerates and little to no stutter even when moving quickly through the world.
I´m playing the Witcher Enhanced Edition with a dual core…and a GTX560Ti OC…not a single stutter and 60+ FPS everything maxed (1080p) to the very top. (no idea if this game was demanding when it was released)
I played The Witcher 2 before and still have it installed…It worked before just fine with my bottleneck…gotta check it again now.
for the looks of that demo went, I think there’s not going to be any problem running it on full HD in a constant framerate on the PS4, I mean just look at it, it has the same visuals of the past iterations(UE3) but in a open world game oh and they add it the batmobile.
In the end the demo look cool, but nothing to be stunned for still probably will get it.
Next year probably will have my gaming rig upgraded hope to see a release of GDDR4 modules in a affordable price.
PS4/PC will be the perfect gaming combination.
It once again just goes to show that sometimes you can’t assume what platform it’s running on merely by what controller is hooked up or what button prompts are on screen. Especially when many games come with code to detect what type of controller is active and show the appropriate prompts. Some games, like Metal Gear Rising even support PS controller prompts as well as Xbox controller prompts.
That being said it’s amusing to see gaming journalists trying to guess what system it’s running on by circumstantial evidence like that and then presume to say how great the graphics and performance is.

newer PC games change the buttons depending on the controller you’re using automatically. Both the DS4 and the Xbone controller have official drivers to be used on PC.

I’m sorry but this game is running on an outdated engine
that has been upgraded so its pretty obvious the PS4 will
run this game just as good as pc only a fool would think
otherwise.
