Star Citizen’s Dogfighting Module Delayed Yet Again

Chris Roberts announced today that the highly anticipated Dogfighting module for Star Citizen will be delayed again, as the team is not ready yet to release a stable version of it. According to Chris, there are two major issues in this current build of the Dogfighting module that will prevent – pretty much everyone – from actually playing the game.

“The most serious of these, blockers, are bugs that completely prevent the game from working and from being in a releasable state. Unfortunately, as of tonight, there are still two blockers and half a dozen critical issues (which we would like to fix before launch.) Our biggest issue today is a newly developed DirectX crash which breaks the single player Vanduul Swarm mode every backer will be given access to.”

In other words, Star Citizen is currently unstable and in order to avoid the fury of all those angry PC gamers, the team decided to delay and further polish it. Which is good news, despite the fact that this is the second time that it gets delayed.

Roberts did not reveal any possible ETA other than they are very close to releasing it, just not yet.

  1. This was disappointment but understandable . I think it’ll be released at the end of next week , right after the last episode of WMH and TNGS . At least The Forest’s early access is beginning tomorrow , and Elite is entering in final beta which is great news .

  2. I think the biggest back lash is the lack of integrity, fans have been lead on a glossy expensive series of glitz events that have lead to the delivery of deflated crumpled up fart balloon!

Also the investment of money and time isn’t being repaid in the ships so investors are looking for blood!

And to make it worst the Next Great Starship guys delivered remarkable quality ships in a very short time, that are both sleek, elegant and very kewl.

How kewl really are the RSI base ships they look like either a school bus or rejects from a Lucas movie which people have paid up to $50 dollars…

so add all this up time and ships that look like rejects, bath towels on the wall, fish tanks, and people are going to ask why?
The ROI doesn’t stack up, its tight!
Chris Roberts may have just put the first nail in the Crowd funding coffin, which is a great shame!

    1. Because there is a huge difference between people, who really want their old dream finally become a reality, and those, who forget about everything, when they sees how much money you gave them.

I think they should have worked 10x harder, with all the money and the trust that community gave them. Instead, three years have passed, and they even didn’t released the first, and the most basic module yet.

    2. Have you seen the fidelity of the new ships? They’re cranking up the detail to 11. That shit takes time and effort. They also had to build a big gaming studio from NOTHING. That takes time, and effort. And Star Citizen Complete won’t be ready for another couple of years, at least. This is pre-Alpha on a brand new game from a brand new studio! Cut them some slack. Remember, you can’t just hire 500 new people to jump in and start coding
and adding artwork – there needs to be a structure and that’s what
they’re creating. At some point they’ll ramp up production but they
need to lay the ground work first. That all takes time, and effort.

The NGS guys are good, but lots of work will be needed to get their ships into Star Citizen proper. Those player-made ships will need to be remade completely to come up to snuff with the quality that the other ships – not to mention all the work they’ll have to put into re-designing the ships to fit into the SC universe. The ships look the way they do because Chris Roberts has a vision of space ships that are practical, not stylish. He’s going for realism, not fantasy styling..

The game WILL get made. Heck, I was discussing with my friend how SC has GOT to succeed. People will keep throwing money at it until it’s the game they’ve always wanted. The community will FORCE Star Citizen to get better and better.

      1. No matter how much money you will throw into a game. If developers don’t have talent, skills and wish to make a good game nothing will work.

I would give anything just to see backers faces when they finally realized that they were fooled. If it looks like a scam, walks like a scam, talks and smells like a scam, then probably, it is a scam.

        1. Not sure who you’re referring to – the Star Citizen team is incredibly talented. Just look at the screenshot that heads this article. It speaks for itself.

  3. Starting to become pessimistic about SC. Not that there weren’t always warning signs like paying real money for fake ships before they even exist…

    1. Have you been following the production? The capital ships they’re creating are INSANE. They could have an entire game just take place on the deck of ONE capital ship. Star Citizen will have many!

The more I follow the production the more excited I get for this game. Their attention to detail is superb and they’ve hired some of the best people in the industry. As time moves on (and their funds increase) more great artists and programmers will jump on board. It’s going to be magnificent, I promise.

    2. On another note – paying real money for stuff before they exist is exactly what you do when you buy any game. It’s just ones and zeros on your storage drive. You’re paying for the experience. With Star Citizen, people are paying into the experience of watching, up-close, the production of a big-budget game, plus they get to chime in and have their voice be heard and can possibly have a say in the direction the game takes. Heck, even regular users (not the subscribers) get to vote on what they want added to the game. It’s fun. It’s an experience. And in the end we’ll get the candy that is the game! They’re completely re-writing the rules to AAA game making. You won’t see Ubisoft or EA do shit like this in ten thousand years.

  4. Can’t say that I was surprised when I saw the comm-link, hopefully the Arena Commander beta is more stable on its release.
