Man, what a bummer. After unveiling its title, Warhorse Studios has been looking for a publisher. Unfortunately, the team could not sign a deal and as a result of that, it decided to launch a Kickstarter campaign in order to show to them that there is crowd for such a title.
Here is what Warhorse Studios had to say about its relationship with publishers:
“Our plan was to develop a prototype, pitch it to publishers, and finish development with the subsequent money. We tried to do it that way (and you can read about our experiences on our blog), but in essence, even though everybody we met commended our work, praised our game’s visuals, and believed in our ability to deliver, negotiations would inevitably hit a dead end at the point where the publishers’ marketing departments got involved.”
According to the team, most – if not all – publishers claimed taht the game was too niche and that there were no gamers interested in such a title.
Warhorse continued:
“The sum we are asking for is about ten percent of our total budget; for our investor, however, it is proof that there is real demand for the game, and that there is a point to keeping it funded. Every extra dollar will allow us to make the final product that much better because it means more money for development and more support from our investor.”
Kingdom Come: Deliverance is described as a first-person, open world, realistic RPG that will take you to Medieval Europe in a time of great upheaval and strife.
The team aims to raise £300K – in total – in the next 28 days, and those interested can support this game by visiting its Kickstarter campaign page.
Enjoy!

Been following this since earlier today. As of right now 170k (British pound!) are in the bag, that’s more than half the funds already collected on the very first day. This could go on to make a million or more. Combined with the 3 million from a Czech investor and the game looking playable already I think we’re looking at exactly the kind of game many of us hoped kickstarter was going to make possible.
With this and Star Citizen (37 million at this point) there are two large scale not-low-budget games of formerly niche genres ascending, both running on CryEngine rather than the cookie cutter Unreal and both projected to launch in 2015. 2015 might just be the year PC gaming rises from its vegetative state.
PC gaming’s already doing well, it just doesn’t have as many AAA titles developed for PC first as it used to (The Witcher 2 was the last that really stood out). These both look excellent, though, and are testament to PC gaming having enough of a crowd to support larger titles again :).
Looking fantastic. Heading over to support right now.
Cmon bastards, donate all your pouches full of gold so I can play it in near future, god damnit.
Looks great. I will enjoy the dungeons sans dragons… My favorite parts of TES were hand to hand combat vrs humanoids.
This is what is killing gaming IMO. Imagine how much great ideas were scrapped in favor of a half ass thing hitting the market to make profit. Good thing that kickstarter is there to at least try to “save” some of them.
In another news, I’m really looking foward for this game!
That looks stunning, got The Witcher look about it as well. Keeping my eye on this for sure.
This will get funded easily, games with shiny graphics always succeed in kickstarter. As to whether this game will match expectation or even reach the level it display in the sale pitch, that’s yet remain to be seen. Too many unpolished/unfinished game from kickstarter make me worry when the goal are set so low.
