Yesterday, EA announced its plans to close BioWare and to cancel the next Mass Effect game, which appears to be called Mass Effect Universe. And now, a 2-minute trailer has been leaked online.
From what I could see, this looks legit. It doesn’t look like an AI video. Still, given what we’ve seen in 2026, I suggest taking it with a grain of salt. It does look real.
Since this is a cinematic trailer, it does not represent the quality of the game that was in development. BioWare stated that Mass Effect Universe was still in an early development stage. So, this is most likely an in-engine concept trailer, and nothing more.
For what it’s worth, it does look like a cool trailer. On a technical level, the game could look something like this. Let’s not forget that both Anthem and Dragon Age: The Veilguard looked great. The problem with those games was their gameplay, story, dialogue, and pretty much everything else other than their graphics.
I could not find a way to embed the video. Right now, you can visit Reddit and watch it. I also don’t know how long it will be available. EA will most likely take it down soon. So, be sure to watch it – and download/save it – while it’s still available.
According to reports, this trailer has been ready for months. It’s not something that the dev team created in a last-minute effort. This is why it looks so polished.
As I said, we live in the age of AI. Anyone can fake anything. So, take this leak with a grain of salt until we get more reports.
And no, I don’t expect EA to revive this project, even if fans react well to the trailer. The game had been in early development for six whole years. In some ways, it was in an even worse state than Human Head Studios’ Prey 2.
If EA brings back Mass Effect, I think it will be a brand-new game. It won’t be the game shown in this leaked trailer.
Enjoy and stay tuned for more!
