Modder ‘SonicB00M’ has released Version 3.0 of his RE:Enhance Mod for the second classic RE game, Resident Evil 2. This is one of the best AI-powered upscaling mods for the classic RE game. So, make sure to download it if you plan to replay it.
For those who did not know, this mod enhances the pre-rendered backgrounds via AI tools. Moreover, the modder made thousands of manual edits to the backgrounds. The result is a game that can look crisper and more detailed than before.
Now, what’s interesting here is that this mod appears to offer better backgrounds than the Seamless HD Project. Or at least that’s what the modder claims. To prove his claims, SonicB00M had previously shared a couple of comparisons between SHDP and RE: Enhance. From what I can see, RE: Enhance does a better job of upscaling the pre-rendered backgrounds.
Version 3.0 brings new and improved backgrounds with a higher level of detail and better consistency. It also improves the character portraits, making them look closer to the original versions. We also get higher-detailed doors and several object textures.
What’s also cool here is that the modder has completely reworked the texturing of the 3D models. Virtually all character and enemy textures have been recreated from scratch.
Not only that, but the modder has brought back certain aspects of the original PlayStation release, which Capcom had to remove from all subsequent versions of the game for legal reasons. As such, all ChoCha Cola vending machines and advertising banners are now back in the game.
You can go ahead and download the mod from this link.
For those who did not know, SonicB00M has released a similar mod for both Resident Evil 1 and Resident Evil 3. I cannot stress enough how great these mods are. So, make sure to download them in case you want to replay these classic Resident Evil games.
SonicB00M has also shared some screenshots from this latest version of the RE:Enhance Mod. These will give you an idea of what you can expect from it.
Have fun and stay tuned for more!
