Here is something special for our Max Payne fans. Modder ‘andrew22’ has released an HD Texture Pack for it that overhauls all of the game’s textures. Thanks to this pack, the game can now look crisp and more detailed. So, if you are planning on replaying it, this is a must-have mod.
Going into more details, this pack upscales all textures by 4–8 times. It also manually corrects some of them. Not only that, but many textures were created from scratch. Texture issues that were present even in the original have also been fixed, too.
All alpha textures have been reworked, and all decals have been manually reworked. 99% of all text on textures is now legible. Notes, signs, posters, and other text can be read.
To showcase the visual improvement that this pack brings to the table, the modder shared the following comparison screenshots. These will give you a pretty good idea of what you can expect from it.
With the exception of the RTX Remix Mod, this is the best way to replay the first Max Payne. At least in my opinion. This will give you the best experience, and it will be close to the vanilla version. Then, you can use Reshade to further improve the graphics.
Those interested can download this HD Texture Pack from this link.
As I said, there is also an RTX Remix Mod for Max Payne. This mod introduces real-time path tracing to this classic third-person shooter. Its latest version overhauls the prologue and the first two main missions. The modder is currently working on the “Playing it Bogart” level, though there is no ETA for when a new update will come out. Naturally, though, I’ll be sure to keep you posted.
Remedy is currently working on an official remake of Max Payne. Sadly, we don’t know when it will come out. Right now, Remedy seems to be focused on CONTROL Resonance. So, don’t expect to be playing the remake anytime soon.
Personally, I’m more than fine with the RTX Remix Mod and this HD Texture Pack for Max Payne. I’m not saying I won’t play the remake. However, an RTX Remix Mod that will cover all levels will be, in my opinion, the best way to re-experience Max Payne.
Have fun!
