Metal Gear Solid 2 feature

The source code for Metal Gear Solid 2 HD has been leaked online

It appears that the source code for the HD version of Metal Gear Solid 2 has been leaked online. This means that we have the source code of the remastered version that came out on Xbox 360 and PS3 in 2011.

This version of MGS 2 never found its way on the PC. However, I’m not sure whether any PC player will be interested in it. After all, we’ve already gotten an updated version of Metal Gear Solid 2 in 2023 with the MASTER COLLECTION.

The good news about this leak is that it includes the game’s raw uncompressed assets. So, in theory, a modder will be able to use those assets to create a new HD Texture Pack for the 2023 PC version of MGS 2.

Speaking of HD Textures for MGS2, you can download this mod that overhauls all of the game’s textures. You can also find an HD Texture Pack for Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater.

As always, we won’t allow any download links to it. Also, if you share a download link in the Comment section, your comment will be deleted. So, consider this your warning.

All in all, while this is somewhat interesting, I don’t believe most of you will be that excited about it. As I said, MGS 2 has already been released on PC twice. Apart from its low-res textures, the latest PC version was quite good. It wasn’t perfect, but it also wasn’t as bad as the initial 2003 PC version.

To be honest, I’d be more excited about the source code of some other PS3-only games. For instance, it would be cool if someone leaked the source code for Lair. I know a lot of people hated it, but with proper mouse controls and high framerates, Lair could actually be enjoyable.

Anyway, I don’t expect we’ll see anything from this MGS2 leak. Still, those interested may find some cool easter eggs in its files!
