Vampire The Masquerade - Bloodlines 2 new feature

Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2 runs with 160FPS at 8K/Ultra with DLSS 4 MFG X4 on an NVIDIA RTX 5090

Paradox Interactive has just released Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2 on PC. The game is powered by Unreal Engine 5, and from the looks of it, it runs pretty well on PC. As usual, before publishing our PC Performance Analysis, I decided to test the game on the NVIDIA RTX 5090. So, let’s see how it runs at both 4K and 8K.

For these early benchmarks, I used an AMD Ryzen 9 7950X3D, 32GB of DDR5 at 6000Mhz, and the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5090. I also used Windows 10 64-bit and the GeForce 581.57 driver.

Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2 does not have a built-in benchmark tool. So, for our benchmarks, I used your home area. This appeared to be more demanding than the entire prologue. As such, it should give us a pretty good idea of how the rest of it runs.

At Native 4K with DLAA and Ultra Settings, the NVIDIA RTX 5090 is able to push a minimum of 65FPS and an average of 74FPS. By enabling DLSS 4 Quality Mode, we get to 97/116FPS.

But what about 8K? Is it possible to enjoy this new UE5 game at that resolution? Well, the answer is yes, provided you use Frame Gen.

At 8K/Ultra with DLSS 4 Performance Mode, we get framerates between 54-58FPS. This is an ideal scenario for using Frame Gen. By enabling MFG X2, we get to 100FPS without any major input latency issues. And then, with MFG X4, we can get a minimum of 160FPS, and an average of 170FPS.

Since this is a single-player game, I’d pick the 8K experience over 4K any day. That’s how I plan to play it (after finishing our PC Performance Analysis). The game runs smoothly, has very few visual bugs, and the 8K sharpness is amazing. The only reason to stick with 4K is if a mod comes out that adds Hardware Lumen. Right now, Bloodlines 2 only uses Software Lumen, which has a lot of lighting artifacts. Hardware Lumen should fix most of those issues.

But what about the DLSS 4 MFG implementation? Well, good news, everyone. This seems to be among the best we’ve seen. Below are two screenshots during very quick mouse movements. As we can see, there are minimal artifacts. Things get even better at 4K, in which we have a higher amount of “real” frames. At 4K, you’ll get even fewer artifacts. Well, that is if you own an RTX 5090.

Before closing, I should note that the game does not suffer from any shader compilation stutters. However, there are some traversal stutters in indoor areas.

Once you go to the open world, though, things get ugly. The stutters are frequent and really annoying. By using Frame Gen, you can somehow mitigate the issue, but you will still spot the stutters. This is something that the devs need to fix. To be honest, though, I don’t think they will. We’ve seen numerous UE5 games that suffer from stuttering. So, add this one to that long list of stuttery games.

All in all, I was initially pleasantly surprised by the game’s performance. Sadly, though, the stutters in the open world are bad. And when I say bad, I mean bad. So, if you are sensitive to them, you should avoid it.

Stay tuned for our PC Performance Analysis, in which we’ll test numerous GPUs from both NVIDIA and AMD!

  1. MFG shouldn't be considered relevant at all when testing a game on such a high-end GPU, just say it runs on 40 fps instead of hiding the issue in plain sight

    1. Another one of those "I did not read the article, but I'll comment anyway". I specifically said it runs at Native 4K/Ultra with 60FPS (and that's with Lumen). This is a great performance.

      1. It is great, so what's the point of focusing the title on an unimpressive number (160 with MFG) on a useless resolution that nobody uses.

        1. Educate yourself. Lumen is a form of Ray Tracing. The RTX 5090 could not run every ray-traced game at Native 4K/60FPS even when it came out.

  2. Wtf is this title lol. First of all, who cares about 8k, second, who cares about MFG as sort of a benchmark?

MFG is great for saturating your refresh rate but ow games run with it is completely irrelevant for gauging its performance.

    1. lol it's one of these cases where you're disappointed even when you expected the worst.🤣

  3. I use MFG in a lot of games. Including 4x. But when looking at game performance benchmark/reviews, I don't really care what the MFG FPS is. You can add it as a secondary side note. But don't title the article with that "FPS."

  4. Testing with xx90 and even xx80 cards at ultra settings and then saying it runs well is just soooo cringey and meaningless to the average gamer who doesn't want to spend what you can buy a moto-ebike for to play games. Awful stuff, probably mostly AI written slop.

  5. So sad seeing all this fake AI crap being pushed everywhere, even bumping out real performance in headlines.

MFG, DLSS, DLAA, whatever other idiotic acronym they add in the future, is not performance. It's band-aid garbage that is nothing short of snake oil.

Just post real performance, bud. If people want snake oil reviews, they can go to YouTube, the king snake oil platform.

    1. Bring this up anywhere, they jump down your throat.. They just can't help themselves when it comes to accepting rubbish.

      1. They wouldn't jump in person , way back when i saw some devs in fantasy Basel in Switzerland from borderlands 3, i confront them and asked them , why the character we play with does not take part on cuteness and why was it so much about the females in the game ,constantly remind us about them , they threw excuses ,such as " we want more scene time on those female characters ",we wanted to show something new " , same bs as always , in person they just stay silent .

  6. What an absolute disaster.
NO "unofficial patch" will ever be able to fix this game.
I just hope the first game will keep getting patches and additional content for years.

  7. List of games I'm waiting:
    – Assetto Corsa Rally (didn't expect this one! Could be a good surprise)
    – Cobra Strike (apparently clone of the Strike series on Megadrive)
    – Project Motor Racing (the GTR2 sequel)
    – Streets of Rogue 2 (first one might be my favorite 2D game ever – The 2D Deus Ex, as some would call it. A true immersive sim.)

That's about it. Very small list.
Yeah I know, nobody cares, I just wanted to share.😃👍

Can't wait to play a hacker again! https://uploads.disquscdn.com/images/848ca5a9bf5a943c066157f9ea830795de4337917d3843ad6a5377f5ac0bdcf4.jpg

  8. I don't understand why the title should focus on MFG and not Native FPS.
I think you're just trying to please the big guys like NVIDIA and Epic.
You sold your soul to the devil, John.

  9. It's kinda funny you see the comments and most of it is about nothing in the article but just the title. Just crazy how low iq some of the readers here have become.
