Clair Obscur Expedition 33 feature-3

Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 Patch 1.4.0 Released, Adds Official Support for XeSS and DLSS Frame Generation

One of the coolest mods for Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 was the one that added support for DLSS 4 Frame Generation. Sadly, that mod was behind a Patreon wall. Thankfully, though, you will no longer need it. Today, Sadfall Interactive released Patch 1.4.0, which adds official support for both Intel XeSS and NVIDIA DLSS Frame Gen. So, better late than never, I guess.

Title Update 1.4.0 also adds Low Latency Mode for DLSS and XeSS. This means you’ll get faster controls (less input lag) if your GPU supports it. The update also fixes bugs, improves visuals, and makes the game world look and feel better in many areas.

What kind of sucks here is that there is no AMD FSR 3.0 or FSR 4.0 support. At first, I thought the devs would have added it. But nope. This patch only adds Frame Gen for Intel XeSS and NVIDIA DLSS. This is such a dumb move. As a result of that, a lot of PC gamers may not be able to use Frame Gen.

Patch 1.4.0 also brings some QoL changes. Now, when you lose a battle, a pop-up lets you retry it right away. In the Pictos menu, you can clearly see how much Lumina each ability uses, making it easier to plan. There’s also a new option to autoplay dialogue outside of cutscenes – you can turn this on in the settings or during conversations. Plus, new icons were added to Lune’s Stains to make things easier to see, especially for colorblind players.

And that’s not all. Lune’s “Thermal Transfer” skill will now only give an extra turn if it uses the right amount of Stains, as it should. Also, characters won’t become unkillable anymore when using Second Chance with Healing Boon and Protecting Death. And lastly, loading a save won’t place you behind the Monolith anymore.

In theory, this patch should be compatible with the mods we’ve shared. So, you should be able to use it with this mod that adds a minimap to the game. This, in my opinion, is a must-have mod.

Another must-have mod is ClairObscurFix Mod. This mod will remove the 30FPS cap from the in-game cut-scenes. Moreover, it will remove the sharpening filter that the devs have used. It will also skip intro logos, and it will reduce letterboxing/pillarboxing in cutscenes.

Another amazing mod is this one, which allows you to play in co-op. With this mod, up to 4 players can team up and fight together. Each player controls their own character and has to dodge and block attacks on their own, even during big group battles. So yes, this is a real co-op mode.

Then we have this mod that improves its Lumen/Ray Tracing effects. You should use this mod only if you own a high-end GPU. Moreover, it may not be compatible with the Ultra+ Mod. In my opinion, it’s not a must-have mod like the ClairObscurFix Mod.

Finally, we have the Ultra+ Graphics Mod. This mod aims to improve the game’s graphics by tweaking its settings beyond its in-game values. It improves lighting, reflections, and shadows. It also fixes problems like textures loading slowly, weird pop-in effects, and ghosting. So, if you own a high-end GPU, you can download it and give it a go.

Like always, Steam will download this update the next time you launch its client. Below, you can also find its complete changelog.

  1. So many improvements to an already excellent game and all y'all PC gamers can do is complain about the graphics? Have any of you even played the game or are you just stamping your feet until you get what you want?

    1. So only those who played the game have a right to complain? Ok then, since I not only completed it but also got all the achievements, here's a short list of obvious improvements they seem to keep avoiding:
      – Control over the sharpening filter, the default setting is awful and we shouldn't have to use a mod to adjust it
      – Control over 30fps cutscene lock, pretty self-explanatory
      – Control over the blur that happens around subtitles, the default setting is a bit much

      Some nice-to-haves:
      – Add support for FSR3 and 4, yeah I get that nvidia is dominant, but for seasoned developers like these guys it shouldn't be that big of an ask
      – HDR support, the game's great art style will shine even brighter
      – Additional graphics settings, such as separating anisotropic filtering from the texture setting, control over the amount of motion blur, separate camera blur and object motion blur settings, options to enhance reflections and global illumination as in some scenarios the temporal ghosting can be really bad even at max settings
      – Mini-map

      1. Do you have any suggestions that aren’t graphics related since…you know… They don’t usually break the game?
I would have preferred if they had fixed bugs that broke save files. Can’t tell you the number of times I’ve saved clips of glitches and I’ve had save files messed up because my characters have loaded inside of geometry.
Amping the graphics settings or adding a mini map won’t fix that 🥴

Try playing a game for the story instead of for the FPS for once and your life will change.

        1. I wasn’t aware of the save game issues. I haven’t had those in my nearly 100 hours of gameplay, but it could be a platform related issue? I played it on PC gamepass.

And it’s also strange that you’re on the offensive because I suggested improvements that you personally don’t care about. On top of that you make an assumption that I play games for performance instead of the story, because if that was the case I wouldn’t have bothered with this game at all. What a weird thing to get argumentative thing about. Consider getting out more. The weather’s quite nice this time of the year.

          1. Funny you assume the weather is lovely where I live 🤣 it’s absolutely sh*te in Australia darling. Have a lovely day.

          2. Ah gamepass… That explains everything, you didn't even pay for it.
Funny you assume I live on your side of the of the world 🤣 It's winter on my side, darling, so it's quite horrid right now. Have a lovely day. ✌️

          3. "Ah gamepass… That explains everything, you didn't even pay for it."

How come? gamepass is not charity darling. As for me, maybe i'll pirate it someday.

          4. I'm guessing it's some rando smarmy troon that somehow found its way here. There's not a whole lot going on in their noggins.

          5. Speaking of which, did you like the game? I’m not into jrpg’s anymore and this game is being overpraised to hell and back, so i’m curious if you agree.

          6. It's definitely overrated, but I still thought it was a pretty decent game. Gameplay wise it's less like a traditional turn based RPG and more like a Paper Mario RPG since it involves timed button presses. I did like the story, even though there are a couple of moments that some people are divided on, and also it does have some subtle feminist undertones. There's lots of optional content that opens up in the third act that IMO could've been presented better to the player. If I had to guess, they ran out of time and money to create fully fleshed out side quests for them so they just left in whatever they could make and let us explore to find them. And of course the sound track is great. The visuals are good too but not without its flaws. All in all its a pretty good game, not a 9 out of 10 (DEFINITELY not a 10) but at least a solid 8.

          7. I’m gonna try to scale back these time sink games (for example recently i beat Gothic 3 and i’m about to beat Cyberpunk), but who am i kidding, i’m thinking of trying dragon’s dogma online after.

  2. "One of the coolest mods"

A patreon exclusive mod about frame gen is the coolest mod? You have top of the line hardware John, just play native.
