Kunitsu-Gami Path of the Goddess

Capcom removed Denuvo from Kunitsu-Gami: Path of the Goddess

Capcom released Kunitsu-Gami: Path of the Goddess on PC in July 2024. And, after one year, the team decided to remove the Denuvo anti-tamper tech.

The removal of Denuvo does not really come as a surprise. After all, Capcom has removed it from numerous games. Monster Hunter RiseMonster Hunter Stories 2: Wings of Ruin, and Resident Evil Village no longer have it. Similarly, Resident Evil 2 Remake and Resident Evil 3 Remake no longer use it.

Square Enix is another publisher that has removed Denuvo from a lot of its titles. For instance, the publisher has removed it from games like The Diofield ChronicleVALKYRIE ELYSIUMTRIANGLE STRATEGYLIVE A LIVE, and Forspoken. Moreover, both Octopath Traveler and its sequel no longer use it. And, in May 2024, SE removed it from Star Ocean The Second Story R. Finally, in March 2025, the publisher removed it from Final Fantasy 16.

As we’ve reported, other companies have also removed Denuvo from several of their titles. In March 2023, KRAFTON removed Denuvo from The Callisto ProtocolNEOWIZ has also removed it from its Souls-like game, Lies of P. In October 2024, Gearbox removed it from Homeworld 3, too.

And that’s not all. Bethesda’s Wolfenstein YoungbloodGhostwire: Tokyo, and Doom Eternal no longer have it. Warner Bros has also removed it from Mortal Kombat 11. Then we have Bandai Namco, which has removed it from Tekken 7 and NARUTO TO BORUTO: SHINOBI STRIKER.

So there you have it. Another game that is no longer using Denuvo. This is the best way publishers can use this controversial anti-tamper tech. And you know what? I get why a lot of them are using it at launch. Like it or not, Denuvo can safeguard the launch sales of PC games. Denuvo does a better job than Steam’s DRM.

A bad implementation of Denuvo could introduce some stutters a couple of years ago. Nowadays, though, most games that use it are not plagued by performance issues. Take, for example, Stellar Blade, which runs great. Or Doom: The Dark Ages. Both of them use Denuvo, and both of them run great on PC. Doom: The Dark Ages, in particular, does not have any stutters AT ALL.

Overall, I’m okay with devs using Denuvo if they plan to remove it one or two years after a game comes out. That’s the best way to use it. But I don’t agree with publishers who only use Denuvo on Steam and not on the Epic Games Store. I also don’t support publishers who want to keep Denuvo in their games forever. That’s a dumb move. So, let’s hope that most publishers will follow the example of those above.

Stay tuned for more!

  1. They don't put denuvo on Epig fail store because NOBODY buys on that fail market LOL if it was there instead of selling 1000 copies they sell 5 👍🤣

    1. RE4? Hasn't that been cracked for ages? Unless you mean they cracked denuvo but they hadn't removed it?

      1. Ofcourse I mean official denuvo removo. Game was cracked within a month but updates separate ways and dlcs are still uncracked. It should've been drmless by now. Also they haven't fixed enemy shadows mercenaries mode (they don't cast shadows on pc but on ps5 they do)

        1. I didn’t know that. Truth be told i wasn’t much interested in the remake due to how good the remastered RE4 is.

          1. Well, the RE4 hd project is peak no doubt. It solidifies an already perfect game. But, the Remake is top in its own league now. It's harder and more fun to play than other remakes. After playing the remake, I tried to parry every attacks in og Re4 due to the reflex the remake builds in you. It's fantastic game.

  2. It costs them $2,000 monthly to keep Denuvo after the contract expires (quarter, half, or annual), so if the game is still selling and making them more than that, they'll use it.

  3. Remember that before 2020 (when the leaked Denuvo Crytek documents revealed it), Denuvo was merely a one-time payment and then it was a permanent implementation, but after 2020, Denuvo became subscription-based and then companies that implement it have to constantly pay for it or be forced to remove it (which of course, these are company secrets that nobody knows except themselves). This is why games released before 2020 still have Denuvo in them, regardless of whether they are cracked or not.

Denuvo's greed and making it subscription-based have only benefitted pirates, LMAO!

  4. So they finally removed the bloat that only makes it worse for the paying customers and as such don't belong in the paying customers games to begin with either!

Then again can understand they try to protect their games, specially now when more and more people are starting to follow the simple mantra of "If purchase isn't ownership, then piracy isn't theft" . Suspect we will see way more high seas activity as a reaction to the constant consumer rights violations… like stealing the access to paid games.

I never liked piracy… but then again i don't like to see what i paid for getting stolen either

  5. "But I don’t agree with publishers who only use Denuvo on Steam and not on the Epic Games Store."

How does this work? Unless this means not releasing the entire game on EGS, or else it would be pointless.

  6. Great games still with Denuvo :
    Atomfall
    Avatar
    Black Myth Wukong
    Dead Rising remaster
    Like A Dragon games
    Onimusha 2
    Persona 3 Remake
    Sniper Elite 5
    Star Wars Outlaws
    The First Berserker: Khazan

    1. The only great game there is P3, potentially Khazan. Everything else is just good if you're being really charitable.

    2. Most of these are just "good" at best.

You forgot all of these games that most of them are better at least slightly above most of what's in your list:

      Atomic Heart
      Ghost Recon Breakpoint
      Sniper Elite Resistance
      Dragon's Dogma 2
      For Honor

      Sonic Origins
      Sonic Frontiers
      Sonic Superstars
      Sonic Colors Ultimate
      Sonic X Shadow Generations

OMG FIVE FREAKING GAMES IN THE VERY SAME FRANCHISE STILL HAS DENUVO IN THEM!!!
