As we’ve already reported, the PC version of NBA 2K25 will be based on the current-gen console version. As such, the game on PC will look as good as on PS5 and Xbox Series X. Moreover, 2K Games has revealed that the game will support Ray Tracing effects on PC.
As the official press release reads:
“For the first time, The City is coming to PC. Players with compatible hardware will experience enhanced realism in The City through ray tracing technology. “
2K Games has not clarified whether these Ray Tracing effects will appear on consoles. We also don’t know how the devs will use RT. Will they simply enhance the game’s reflections? Or will they take advantage of RTGI?
It’s also worth noting that NBA 2K25 will have Ray Tracing only in The City. From the sounds of it, there won’t be any RT effects during casual/normal matches. This is a bummer.
Anyway, 2K Games will release NBA 2K25 on PC on September 6th. From what I can see on Steam, the game will require a 2K account. This seems to be a mandatory requirement. Moreover, NBA 2K25 may not have Denuvo. That, or 2K Games simply did not include it in a way to mislead its PC customers. For comparison purposes, the Steam page for NBA 2K24 lists Denuvo.

Players do not want to cut their FPS in half for something that adds nothing of value, nor do people want to pay $800+ for a GPU.
From what I've heard, even AMD's upcoming RDNA4 will provide a nice uplift to RTRT.
You should look up how path-tracing has revolutionized the CGI/VFX industry to get an idea where the videogames industry is headed towards:

I am not against rt/pt in principle, but the fact of the matter is that it is not indispensable, and similar results can be achieved with far fewer computational resources. The push for ray tracing can only be explained to the reality that gpu manufacturers need new seliing points and modern developers are lazy and/or incompetent and cannot be expected to develop the game they're being paid to develop.
You can speak for yourself, but not for others. I can appreciate what RT does for game lighting. It makes an absolutely huge difference to me.
Black Myths Wukong is one of the most demanding RT games, yet the game is still perfectly playable on my PC. I get 94fps without fullRT and 77fps with fullRT. That's a relative difference of 22%. With optimised settings I get 85fps in the built-in benchmark and 80-90fps during gameplay. This game looks much better with RT, so I see no reason to play without it.
If your PC cannot run RT games well, you can simply turn off RT effects for now, and when you eventually upgrade, you will be able to revisit older games and play them with better graphics and smooth framerate.
It's nice of them to finally bring the current gen version to PCs. Only took them like 4 years.
All I care about is that it has DLSS so I can at least inject DLAA if they fail to include it. RT? If it runs well enough at 1440p DLAA, 4k DLSS I will care.
