NVIDIA’s “Jacob Freeman” has shared some comparison screenshots between the vanilla version and an upcoming RTX Remix Mod for FlatOut 2. These screenshots will give you a glimpse at what Path Tracing can achieve in old titles.
As we can see, RTX Remix adds proper shadows, global illumination and ambient occlusion. Basically, this WIP Mod only alters the game’s lighting system. All of its assets remain the same. At least for now.
Like most RTX Remix Mods we’ve shared, this is still in a very early development stage. So, while it greatly enhances the game’s graphics, it does not represent the quality of the final version. This mod could look even better with PBR materials, better textures and higher polygon count vehicles/objects.
Now what’s cool here is that you can already download this early version of this mod. All you have to do is head over to the game’s ModDB page and get it. Again, this is an RTX Remix config file. So, think of it as an RTX Remix Runtime Mod. This mod does not represent what modders can achieve with the more advanced RTX Remix tools that NVIDIA released last month.
In January, we shared several RTX Remix Mods that are in the works. As such, you can take a look at screenshots and videos for Tomb Raider 2, Grand Theft Auto: Vice City, Manhunt, Dark Messiah of Might and Magic, and Garfield Kart RTX Remix. Speaking of Path Tracing Mods for older titles, you might also want to check out the following ones. Modders have released early demos for their Path Tracing Mods for Tomb Raider, Max Payne and Call of Duty 4. Do note that the COD4 Mod is a “proof of concept” demo, and it does not look that great. On the other hand, the RTX Remix Mod for Max Payne looks amazing (at least in my opinion). Let’s also not forget the RTX Remix for COD: WoW. And then there is this amazing RTX Remix Mod for Need for Speed: Underground 2. Oh, and don’t forget to give a go at this RTX Remix for Unreal Tournament 2004. Finally, you can download Path Tracing Mods for Doom 2, Quake, Half-Life and Serious Sam.

it looks just horrible like every other rtx remix implementation i’ve seen till now (beta, alpha, i don’t think matters anymore, they all looks sort of the same). The big problem is the total loss of original vanilla artstyle and shading, and this creates this sort of fake mobile modern game look. Is just a gymmick to waste modern gpu potential till now.
Yeah. The only good implemetation is Half-Life. Mostly thanks to having a console command so you can tweak whatever you want and retain that original look but also looking better.
idk for the perf hit isn’t a reshade and some texture mods simpler and lighter?
In what way does this look incredible? Lighting is flat with little contrast and the materials lack proper shaders. The shadows are better, but that is about it. The original is definitely preferable.

Yep. You are upsetting the AMD fanboys with all this RTX tech, but in fairness they were warned years ago.
Now it basically looks like Flatout 1! 😅 Back when games started going photorealistic but without the graphics effects we know today. Just a natural looking lighting and good textures straight from a DSLR.
No Bloom, Glare, Normal Mapping, etc. Which is exactly what Flatout 2 was using for it’s unique special artistic design.

I guess it’s supposed to be a mystery, lol. I prefer the right side pics. (If it turns out those are RTX on so be it, Im not a fan of this new tech so far)
How are people not able to tell the difference in the screenshots? It’s night and day. The RTX mods are the ultra bright ones with shadows applied to all everything. The post processing effects like bloom are gone and everything looks much more flat. Even the sheen and reflections on the cars are gone in the RTX On pictures.
The mod is only applying new lighting, so that’s what your looking for. Hopefully that helps people be able to see the difference. While I think it’s interesting, I don’t think it necessarily means it’s better. These games were designed with those limitations and adding new lighting really showcases that they were made to use those things effects in different ways to make the game look as good as possible (except Bloom. That effect needs to die)
I like the darker pictures on the right, seems richer. Not sure which one is supposed to be On / Off .
Do lighting and shadowing look more accurate? Yes.
Does it look better, nicer or incredible? Pfff no, it looks like sh*t.
