Starfield feature 2

Starfield reportedly runs with 45-60fps at 1440p/High Settings on NVIDIA RTX 2080Ti

Starfield releases soon and it appears that we finally have some leaks regarding its performance on PC. Moreover, we get to see a part of the PC graphics settings which basically confirm what we already knew. Starfield won’t support Ray Tracing or FSR 3.0 on PC (at least at launch).

According to the leak, an AMD Ryzen 3800X with an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2080Ti can run Starfield with 45-60fps at 1440p/High Settings most of the time. In dungeons and space, the aforementioned PC system can push 60-70fps. Oh, and that’s with FSR 2.0 enabled by the way. For gaming at native 1440p/High settings, you’ll need a more powerful PC system than this.

Unfortunately, the leaker has not shared any in-game screenshots (with a performance overlay) from Starfield. Thus, we can’t say whether these drops are due to the CPU or the GPU. What we do have, however, is the game’s graphics settings.

Starfield PC settings

Bethesda has included numerous graphics settings to tweak. So, in theory, PC gamers will be able to improve performance by dropping some of them. Sadly, these graphics settings do not include any “CPU/GPU usage” information or a window to showcase the graphical changes.

The leaker also claimed that performance appeared to be smooth overall, without any major stutters. Furthermore, they confirmed the planet boundaries that gamers will experience. As we’ve reported, Starfield will provide specific areas in which you can land, and there will be a limit to the area you can seamlessly explore.

Now as with all leaks, we strongly suggest taking everything you read with a grain of salt. Since we’ve already purchased the Digital Premium Edition we’ll share our initial PC performance impressions on September 1st. Nevertheless, this leaked info sounds valid, so it should give you an idea of Starfield’s performance on PC.

Starfield will release on September 6th. This is one of the most anticipated PC games of 2023, so it will be interesting to see how the game performs on PC. Bethesda has also claimed that AMD has worked with its team so that the game can utilize multiple CPU cores on PC.

Stay tuned for more!

  1. Did they improve the engine? The physics of creation engine goes wild beyond 60 fps. If no improvement is done then there’s no point go beyond 60 fps.

    1. Been fixed for a good while now, they fixed it for VR and anniversary edition. so the engine already supports above 60 fps.

      1. Anniversary edition works fine above 60, just needs an ini edit. Well, it’s fixed I’ve just misremembered which game, fair enough.

    1. Unless of course you have Gamepass and not only do you get it day one, but its not a problem if it is a steaming pile, cause it didn’t cost anything more than the subscription you already pay :-/

    2. This is first game on Creation Engine 2 build together by ID Software (Doom) and Bethesda (Skyrim). It is like Skyrim married with Doom. I expect perfect graphics optimization with great story.

Bethesda boss Todd Howard confirmed Id Software had helped out with Starfield’s graphics

          1. I can zoom and show you main differences:

            https://uploads.disquscdn.com/images/ce89aad86710a66934dd67f7ad5ccccbac2051d77be4a965f92b95b05cc581b9.jpg

Fallout 4 on Creation Engine 1 (Bethesda)
            – simple textures
            – no shadows inside houses

Starfield on Creation Engine 2 (Bethesda + ID Software)
            – PBR textures with complex materials
            – shadows
            – self shadows
            – ambient occlusion

ID Software have a lot of experience in 3D graphics. Much more than Bethesda main studio. This is why Starfield looks so different than any other Bethesda game

          2. yes you should have taken a better picture to showcase this. Fallout 4 lighting suck as nearly all bethesda games, stafield lighting is pretty damn good.

          3. I’ll take more pictures on friday. I bought premium upgrade for Game Pass that allow to play early. I will test this game on my PC and Steam Deck

          4. I would say Oblivion was the first beth game with superior graphics when it released.

        1. Fallout 76 used old Creation Engine 1 which was fork of Gamebryo designed for Fallout 3. This was 15 years old engine created when most of us had PC with Athlon 64

Starfield is first game on new Creation Engine 2 created together by Bethesda and ID Software. This is why this game looks so different than any other Bethesda game

          1. My concern isn’t visuals. I’m in a small minority of gamers that don’t consider visuals to be the absolute most important aspect of a game. Good visuals are important to me but certainly not the most important.

My concern is the strong likelihood that the game will be a buggy mess on release and possibly even broken which is what Bethesda is well known for. It may take a while before the modding community has the time to clean up yet another Bethesda pile of mess because Bethesda is too incompetent to quickly patch their games properly on their own.

          2. Main gameplay will be like in other Bethesda games. Skyrim in space. But this time game will be much prettier than any previous Bethesda RPG because that support team ID Software is very experienced in 3D engines

          3. So it’s okay to be a buggy mess that you can’t progress in just because it’s a pretty buggy mess you can’t progress in?
            Cool.

          4. I like pretty games. Bethesda make good decision when they acquired ID Software and ask them for help with new 3D engine. They have a lot of experience in 3D graphics

          5. it will be and the same people bit^hing about bg3’s bugs will be happily riding this games nuts hard. bunch of hypocrites.

          6. I only buy Bethesda games 3+ years after release and my second playthrough is usually fully modded. And I buy goty edition for like $10 xD

Others pay for the privilege to be beta-testers and fix the bugs for me xD

            Thank you very much, everyone!

          7. I never even played Skyrim until 2019 and I’ve never played it using less than 500 mods ….

      1. Creation Engine was just a modernization of the Gamebryo engine. Expect a lot of the same bugs and glitches that are common to Bethesda games, especially since Bethesda has proven over the years that they can’t release a reasonably bug-free game.

        1. I have faith in ID Software team. Few years ago most people said that Doom will have bad graphics because John Carmack left ID Software in 2013 but Doom was huge success. Few years later Doom Eternal also had good graphics. ID Software have a lot of experience in 3D graphics so Creation Engine 2 should have good optimization

          1. I hated the 2016 DOOM reboot. It wasn’t fun, I constantly got stuck on transitions from one section of flooring to another, the Hell levels were obnoxious, the graphics were super blurry (even with anti-aliasing off), the Vulkan support is broken and the game just crashes on launch, I didn’t like the stupid glory kill mechanic, and I didn’t like most of the weapons or their upgrades. All of this was after they released the final patch for the game, which means the technical issues with the game are never going to get fixed.

I LOVE the original DOOM. I’ve even played it in VR, and it was still amazing. The 2016 garbage reboot is horrible by comparison.

      2. 1. Creation Engine 2 is built on top of Creation Engine 1. So its likely we will still see many of the issues that existed in 1, in 2 as well, just with some enhanced features and capabilities.

        2. Numerous articles cover the aspects that Id Software helped with, and most of them seem to be pretty insignificant aspects. Like helping with the games motion blur and character movement. Its not like they coded the engine for the game to run smoothly.

        1. You clearly wrong 2080ti in 100 of games run at 4k 60fps while consoles can barley do 1440p without upscaling crap.

          1. i own a 2080ti and a 3080ti, i can tell you for a fact, only older games run 4k60fps on that now without DLSS.

  2. GeForce RTX 2080Ti can run Starfield with 45-60fps at 1440p/High Settings

High settings in 1440p on 5 years old GPU? This is amazing news. Other new games like for example Immortals of Aveum use low settings on this old GPU

    RTX 2080 Ti:
    – Immortals of Aveum: 1080p 30fps with low settings
    – Starfield: 1440p 45-60fps with high settings

    1. It’s not “amazing news”. It’s a leak/hype. John warns you in the article to take this leak with a grain of salt. Good advice imo.

      1. Still optimization looks much better than in other games from 2023. If this old GPU can run Starfield 45-60 fps, high details at 1440p then this will be miracle.

Perfect optimization. But we should expect that from ID Software experts. I remember when they run Doom Eternal with 1000 fps. It is nice that Bethesda use their skills in new engine. ID Software games always had good optimization

Bethesda boss Todd Howard confirmed Id Software had helped out with Starfield’s graphics

        1. Still, we don’t really know very much right now. Smartest thing to do is wait a while before buying to get feedback on the real state of the game and don’t put much value on leaks. It could end up being marketing hype paid for by Bethesda.

    2. you had to pick the worst optimized game to make that point? Also starfield was suppose to come out in 2022 and before that in 2021.

      1. Those are two games on brand new engines. All other games in 2023 used old graphics engines

        – Immortals of Aveum is first game on Unreal Engine 5.1 (Epic)
        – Starfield is first game on Creation Engine 2 (Bethesda + ID Software)

Those companies Epic and ID Software create their graphics engines for many years. They fight who create better 3D engine for at least 20 years

  3. I’ll always be cautious when Bethesda & Todd Howard is involved.
VRS is nice, not so many games have it
i hope DLSS is there, i hope it’s another AMD exclusive FSR game again
FSR is just not that good compared to DLSS

  4. I think it’s important to remember that the 2080 is around the same performance profile of the consoles. I think it’s also important to remember PCMR is meant to represent higher aspirations than console pheasants. if you’re at or below their performance profile, you cannot complain. Stick to Alex’s recommended settings 😛

Remember, “You are on the council, but we do not grant you the rank of master”

  5. This is exactly why I bought a 4090 rather than use 2080Ti for Starfield, 45 to 60 FPS in 1440p “most of the time” with FSR? When I saw the recommended specs I knew it was time to upgrade and this confirms it.

    1. its his weak CPU that causes the framerate so low. Others showed with ingame fps meters 130-140 fps in 1440p difference was their CPU is a R7 7800X3d and GPU 2080Ti

    2. I have 4090 paired with a1390k it’s way over priced hype sh*t runs extremely hot. Utility bill gotten insanely high as well not worth to be honest.

      1. Well they’re both over priced but are you referring to the 4090 or the 13900k? My 4090 rarely goes over 55⁰ and my 13700k rarely goes over 65⁰. I have the white Strix 4090 OC and a Corsair AIO on the 13700k inside a Corsair 5000T. Maybe you have junk cooling or thermal paste application?

  6. I’m in California so standard edition releases 5pm September 5th! Also nice to see someone mention the ability to drop graphic settings. So many reviews breeze over that like performance and system requirements are set in stone. That said pretty sure I’ll be fine with a 5800x3d and 3080ti

  7. GeForce RTX 2080Ti can run Starfield with 45-60fps at 1440p/High Settings

High settings in 1440p on 5 years old GPU? This is amazing news. Other new games like for example Immortals of Aveum use low settings 1080p on this old GPU

    1. Not surprising, Bethesda games always have been. I got a 7800x3d to replace my I5 9600K will see…

  8. Better than expected and why the xbox series x is not having a 60fps mode knowing its gpu is close to a 2070 super more or less

        1. He’s definitely not new here. Remember that guy a while back that was calling John a pedo in every other comment because John turned him down to be a game review writer here? It’s the same guy with the same MO and a new alt but still carrying the same grudge.

          1. That’s my guess. He’s also the same guy who used to post gay p*rn pics in the comments.

      1. John he is a literal racist POS. He just comes here to attack people and never talks games or tech. He should just be IP banned at this point. Sorry for downvotting you but yeah, that is kind of a weak response :S

        1. See, there was an option just for that in our “Comment Policy” poll. People didn’t vote for it. So, if the majority of our readers don’t want or like it, they should vote for that option this October. Plain and simple really.

          1. Yeah I didn’t vote last time, sorry.

Can we have an option to just ban the immature people that want to make this site a worse place for everyone else? For the poll in October please.

  9. starfield will change humanity how people works how people acts will change all
people lives, remember if you don’t pre order starfield you are not a gamer, so what ever you are doing stop & pre order right now & live your next generation life

  10. I’m not hyped nor am I spending $70 on this. I’ve had Gamepass Ultimate for a year and half and I have a year and a half left. ( I was able to stack 3 years of Xbox Live Gold each for $30 and then convert that to Gamepass Ultimate for $1.00. Cost me a whopping $91 cdn. So if Starfield is a bust, meh and if it turns out to be a great game, then that’s a huge bonus. I have a 4090 and a 13700k so not worried at all about how it will run. It’s nice to have low expectations going in to a game.

    1. honestly the whole point is that tis gonna be the skyrim of sci fi and space games, modded starfield is gonna be amazing in a few years from now.
