Modder ‘GameROOSH’ is currently working on a remaster mod for Half-Life 2, and shared some screenshots and a comparison video. This comparison video shows off some of the early graphical improvements that players can expect from it.
As GameROOSH noted, the following screenshots are from an early version and do not represent the quality of the final version. As such, consider them as alpha screenshots.
The modder plans to replace most of the game’s textures with brand new ones. In order to do so, GameROOSH will be using 8000×8000 pictures from the city they live in. Moreover, the modder will be using some models and some textures from other Source Engine-powered games.
It’s also worth noting that this remaster promises to feature realistic simulation of bullets, destructible objects, Cascade “CSM” shadow maps, and animated sky.
Lastly, this mod does not appear to be using any Path Tracing effects like those of the upcoming Half-Life 2 Path Tracing Project.
There is currently no ETA on when this mod will come out. Naturally, though, we’ll be sure to keep you posted.
Enjoy!

BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOORIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIING !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Feels off
Pretty! This has been a really wonderful post. Many thanks for providing these details.
Remaster=Streets full of litter. Probably to match HLA, but that game is really clunky.
I really like reading through a post that can make men and women think. Also, thank you for allowing me to comment!
You’re so awesome! I don’t believe I have read a single thing like that before. So great to find someone with some original thoughts on this topic. Really.. thank you for starting this up. This website is something that is needed on the internet, someone with a little originality!
Some texture look too clean.
gerçekten çok yararl? bi konu te?ekkürler
naturally like your web site however you need to take a look at the spelling on several of your posts. A number of them are rife with spelling problems and I find it very bothersome to tell the truth on the other hand I will surely come again again.
Half Life 2 was already remastered. It’s called the FakeFactory Cinematic Mod.
Fakefactory is by far the best mod for HL2 !! ………… but we can’t call it a REMASTER ! because it’s always built on the archaic source 1 Engine , if anyone wants to remaster HL2 he has to choose a new engine obiviously Source2 ( which is not free or OpenSource !) or at least UE4/5 , Cryengine3, Frosbite 3 …. etc
And if someone does “remaster” Half Life 2, but the quality isn’t as good as FakeFactory’s Cinematic Mod, then is it truly a remaster?
FakeFactory did some serious work on Half Life 2, incorporating features from newer versions of Source than was used even in Episode 2 to extend the capabilities of the engine and he did extensive work on the maps to improve the effects and make the visuals look truly amazing by the standards of the time. The work he put into his mod is better than what most companies do when they “remaster” a game.
BTW: I don’t recall any official remaster from a game studio that uses a newer engine. Mass Effect Legendary Edition, from what I understand, still uses the Unreal 3 engine that the games originally used. Maybe an updated version of it, but still Unreal 3.
i agree with you !! but really HL2 on source 1 !!!!!!!!!! it’s always on DX9 ???????????????? Textures from PS2/PS3 era ………..come on !!!!!!
OK ! let’s say that we need a REMAKE not a REMASTER !! and the only one who can do that is Valve Software and “Gay Newel” don’t give a s*****t about HL2 or any other game !!
FakeFactory’s textures and models were extremely good for the time. I think they’re still some of the best that have been made for Half Life 2.
Now if Valve were to give us a proper remake of Half Life 2 in Source 2, then that would be cool. That being said, I’ve already been playing through the game in VR, so it’s not like I actually need it.
Awesome! Its genuinely remarkable post, I have got much clear idea regarding from this post

I appreciate you sharing this blog post. Thanks Again. Cool.
No need. I feel adding Path Tracing while retaining the entire game in its original form would be much better = same exact gameplay but from a much more realistic view.
I agree, and also run all original HL2 textures through an AI upscaler just to make them a bit cleaner without changing the their overall look and mood a.k.a “lore friendly”
