Classic Deus Ex will get an HD Remaster treatment in Unreal Engine 5

The creator of the DXU24 project, a project that aims to bring the classic Deus Ex game to Unreal Engine 5, has shared a new dev video. This development video showcases some of the improvements that its latest WIP version features. It also offers a few comparison scenes between the original Unreal Engine 1 and the remastered Unreal Engine 5 versions.

DXU24 is an on-going project, aiming to bring the classic version of Deus Ex to the latest version of Unreal Engine. Furthermore, it will support VR, letting you experience this classic FPS in VR.

From what we can see, DXU24 will offer volumetric fog, as well as better water and lighting effects. This fan HD Remaster will also support Niagara for its particle effects. For those wondering, there is no word (at least yet) on whether it will support Lumen or Nanite. Realistically speaking, it wouldn’t make a lot of sense to support Nanite. After all, this is a fan remaster of a really old game. However, it would be so cool if DXU24 supported Lumen and had proper Ray Tracing effects.

Anyway, you can go ahead and take a look at its latest development video below. Our Deus Ex fans can also go ahead and download from here an Unreal Engine 4 Fan Tech Demo.

Enjoy!

  1. Nice. This will give me a good reason to play this game again. lol
And I assume there’s no reason it will be incompatible with GMDX.
Also, according to what I understand from the video, this opens a whole new world of modding possibilities.
They refused to give us a remake of Deus Ex, so let’s do it ourselves, then! ?

    1. If you listen to some of the game’s dialog you’ll very quickly understand why. A remake would need extensive re-writing as per modern day standards, otherwise the developers will get labeled as tinfoil-wearing quacks in the six gorillion articles from left-wing urinalists and their reputation would get tarnished for a long time. There are several lines there that are pretty red-pilling and hence “problematic,” especially for the elite.

      1. of course they wouldn’t appreciate, for instance, the humour in Ivan’s
existencial catchphrase “I SPILL my DRINK!,” which itself is a cryptic
reference to Turgenev’s Russian epic Fathers and Sons

      2. Unfortunately you are correct. I especially found it fascinating how the game foreshadowed 9/11 by removing the twin towers in an update like a week or two before it happened.

        Someone definitely knew something…

        1. WTC towers were removed due to memory limitations, it would have taken literal seconds to google this but can’t let facts get in the way of conspiracy delusions amirite?

  2. Yeah well eh… I’d love it more than anyone but it’s been in development for at least 2.5 years and it’s at a very rudimentary stage. I’d get my hopes up if it was showing Quests working.
So… Yeah… Cool but nah, it’s just another mod attempt on the internet with too much of a long way to go.

  3. I wish modders would redecorate the environments appropriately as well. A lot of older games can feel a little empty sometimes

  4. this game always got a very boring colours selections… In Deus Ex Human revolution eidos montreal fix that

          1. You call this piss filters, I call that great mystery atmosphere and art design. But nowadays people left taste to only see technical numbers.

          2. Lmao, try Stalker or Elden Ring for good mystery atmosphere, even the Human Revolution sequel does it better.

  6. He needs to spend more time replacing those extremely low poly meshes for the hands and crowbar …. Hot damn are they ugly … all the volumetric fog and HD textures in the world won’t cover up bad low poly meshes on everything else

  7. Why though? It still looks like trash even with better lightning. The game is way too old now it needs to be a full remake from ground up if you are going to bother as this looks like garbage even as a mobile game.

  9. Deus Ex was great when it came out. It’s dated now but those of us who lived back then waiting for the next 3d game were so hyped. And thrilled when we played it the first time. The music, characters, locations, and story were good.
