Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty is a game I was really looking forward to. And, when KOEI Tecmo reached us so they could provide us with a review code, I was kind of hopeful. Surely the PC version would be in a better state than other KOEI Tecmo games, right? Well, Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty is a mess on PC at launch for K&M gamers.
In order to give you an idea, we informed KOEI Tecmo about the following issues on February 18th. This basically means that Team Ninja had half a month in order to resolve these PC issues. Not only that, but a lot of PC gamers have listed the following issues on Steam’s forums after trying the PC demo. And instead of fixing them, Team Ninja did nothing. So, at this point, we do have to wonder why PC gamers should be paying KOEI Tecmo 70 euros if they are treated as second-class citizens. Again, the team was fully aware of these issues for a couple of weeks. The fact that it did nothing to fix any of them is worrisome, to say the least.
For starters, the game still has shader compilation stutters. Say whatever you want about The Callisto Protocol, but at least Striking Distance Studios resolved most of the game’s shader compilation stutters in just a day. The game also has some traversal stutters. Thankfully, though, they are few and won’t annoy most of you.
Then we have the ridiculous graphics settings. I mean, come on now, what the hell is “Best Performance“? This is a console setting and has no place in a PC version. At least the game does offer custom graphics settings to adjust them.
The game is also unable to automatically detect the Keyboard and Mouse. In order to play with K&M, you’ll have to go to the Control settings, and select the “Mouse Enabled” setting for Control Type.
The aforementioned issues, while annoying, are not game-breaking issues. The biggest offender, as the title implies, is the awful mouse deadzone issues. The mouse movement is completely broken, and there is seriously no way to play the game with K&M. And no, there is no excuse for something like that. Third-person games play wonderfully with K&M so let’s not start with the “this game is for controllers“. This is a mere excuse and nothing more.
Seriously, imagine if a publisher released a first-person shooter on consoles in which you could not move the camera with the sticks or any of the gamepad arrows/buttons and showed K&M icons. Would people defend it and say “this game is for K&M, buy one“? Ridiculous, right? Well, the same applies to PC games that do not have proper K&M controls. There is no excuse for a PC game in 2023 to emulate a stick and have mouse deadzone issues. All we simply need is raw input for the mouse and on-screen prompts K&M. And nothing more. We don’t want any special K&M tweaks. This is laughable, to say the least.
All in all, Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty on PC is an awful port from the consoles. Now if the game was at 30 euros, I’d definitely cut KOEI Tecmo some slack. However, for a game that costs 70 euros, we demand a better PC product. And, until Team Ninja fixes the aforementioned issues and starts treating PC gamers as first-class citizens, we suggest staying away from it!

Yeah Uncharted was just as bad after the first patch. Hogwarts did it the best I think. Movement and aim acceleration toggles and speed toggles should just be the standard.
Hogwarts also was mediocre at keybinds though. Every game should allow shift and control modifiers because they make such good keybinds. Example Shift/control mouse wheel, tilt and buttons so that you don’t have to use a clumsy Naga that sucks in FPS games.
Unfortunately the only way it will change is if people with visibility cry about it enough. Digital Foundry obviously plays with a console controller seeing they pimp motion blur all the time, so doubt it will come from them.
All motion blur is cancer and it’s no surprise the cucks at DF use it.
Yeah, there are so many cool possibilities with m&kb controls. But you’ll see in a lot of interviews and behind the scene videos that most devs don’t even play with m&kb, even on fps games.

Thanks for having shared that screenshot. If I do ever get the game once it’s been patched to an acceptable state then it’s now an absolute certainty that I’ll be sailing the high seas. Buying it would be to reward their decision to get woke.

No one does it better than Deck 13 with the Surge. After you play the game with KB+M there is no way you can go back to playing games if the genre with controller. The only thing I use a controller for us side scrollers. Other than that they are useless. Any games can work well on KB&M, work needs to be done and that’s that.
The game itself is actually awesome though. I’m about 10 hours in and so far every boss has been killer. It takes Sekiro combat and goes way beyond, you can deflect any attack in the game, aoe’s, unblockables, projectiles. It’s satisfying as hell getting all the timings down and the fights are pretty damn fast.

Go play the surge and Deck13 will show you how is done and properly implemented. Any game can be played on KB+M, the work first need to be done. From Software never did the work. They can’t even give us unlock frame rates. Therefore, I have no money to give them. I pirated Elden Ring, launched the game, saw the it was locked at 60FPS. Immediately press esc, exit & uninstalled. I don’t have time to waste, also did the same for Sekiro. For all I know their is no game outside of the launch area, because I don’t care if it can’t meet basic gameplay requirements.
Deck13 aren’t Asians, this is the heart of the problem. Same with 60 fps engine cap with tied animations.

Well they ain’t change because they are enabled and just don’t care. My wife is Chinese, I know. She will give you the world but is very STUBBORN AF. I’m Black and I thought that blacks were stubborn, Asians got us beat by large amount. But I’ve come to respect deck 13 because the surge 2 had problems at launch and they were always quick to respond and walk you through a fix. I don’t like any from software games but I love deck13’s because they improve upon what already exists and that makes me wanna play the genre.
I have some problems with the way movement is made in the Deck games. The Surge 2 made some strides in this regard, but compared to say DS III, ER or Bloodborne, it’s still sluggish as all hell.

This another game that actually runs quite good on my AMD build, while on NVidia is full of stuttering even with G-Sync ON.
However in the demo I had issues with both builds, this was fixed in retail version on AMD side.
