Resident-Evil-5 feature

Resident Evil 5 February 28th Update completely removes GFWL, adds support for local co-op

Now here is something unexpected. After almost eight years, Capcom released a new patch for Resident Evil 5 that removes its Games for Windows Live support. Furthermore, this latest update adds support for local split-screen co-op.

Now in case you weren’t aware, the Steam version of Resident Evil 5 did not utilize GFWL. However, Capcom still left in a feature that allowed previous GFWL users to import their old save game progress and Achievements into the Steam version.

According to Capcom, the game could fail to launch if the GFWL client was missing. So basically, PC gamers were forced to install it. Thankfully, though, that will no longer be the case.

As always, Steam will download this update the next time you launch its client. Below you can also find its complete changelog.

Resident Evil 5 February 28th Patch Notes

  • Removed Games for Windows Live support.
  • Will support local split screen co-op.
  • Some other minor bug fixes.

    1. Speaking of the Lost Planet series, it’s a generic series that doesn’t do anything mind-blowing but still it’s enjoyable. And even though LP3 was the weakest in the series, it was still better than nothing, I had my fair share of fun with it. I don’t want remasters, reboots or sequels, I want it to stay as it is and not Judaize it.

        1. Yeah, LP2 has the most varied environments in the series due to plot reasons, plus it is perhaps the only Capcom game with offline multiplayer mode against bots (1 and 3 don’t have offline multiplayer against bots).

  1. To all of you successful slaves in the comment section that is sucking off Capcock, especially the ones that side with DRM, imagine this. Imagine if Capcom went belly up/dyfunct. What would happen to the things that you paid for but don’t own.

    1. I really hope that they bite the dust so bad. Their DRM practice & optimization laziness are killing off almost every single hardcore fan of the series. Even their D3D12 updates were mess.

  2. This update also added new DRM.
Enigma Protector, it was first finded in Mafia DE.
This little b**tard hides steam_api.dll inside the .exe, so steam emulator has to be re-done and re-configured, the same goes to SteamDLC unlockers.
Fear not, this crap is weak like spider piss.

    1. Greedy Crapcom.
RE4R will also have a lot DRM crap with custom triggers, and Denuvo DLC DRM on top of normal Denuvo.

  3. I hope this doesn’t disturb the old GFLW/DX10 capable version available as a beta.
The updated DX9 only version that finally added the DLC has some issues they never fixed.

  4. I posted to Capcom about 2 weeks ago that wish they would fix this and I finally believe they listened to me hahah, and it sounds like I am the only one who wanted this update. Brings me back to Xbox 360 days 13 years ago where I played with my cousin
