Real Return To Castle Wolfenstein 4.0 Mod brings new enemies, AI reiforcements, new HUD & more

WolfETPlayer has released a new version of the RealRTCW overhaul mod for Return To Castle Wolfenstein. According to the modder, Version 4.0 adds new enemies, improves animations, adds the Rewards System for finding Secrets, and introduces AI Reiforcements.

In case you weren’t aware, RealRTCW is an overhaul mod that features a new renderer, expands the game’s arsenal, rebalances gunplay, and packs HD graphics.

Going into more details, the new enemy types are Occult Priests, X-Shepherds, German Shepherd. The first two were exclusive to the console version of Return To Castle Wolfenstein. And, speaking of console-only features, the mod adds the Rewards System for finding Secrets.

In addition, Version 4.0 brings further weapons visuals improvements. It also adds new pickup items models, expands the game’s modding possibilities, and adds AI reinforcements.

  • OpenAL lipsync improved. No more NPCs with chaotically flapping mounths.
  • A few compiler warnings fixed.
  • Prevent firing flamethrower and tesla in noclip or when leaning or when underwater.
  • Akimbo Colt muzzleflash is now working properly.
  • Wrong angle on deathcam fixed.
  • Stamina depletion rate is now independent from the max fps value.
  • Added clip check for the scoped weapons to prevent reloading with full clip.
  • Phantom weapon icons bug fixed. This allowed me to merge ETSP weapons into the main game.
  • Fixed health and armor bars getting out of their limits during overheal.
  • Fix low quality of the UI and levelshots on opengl1 renderer.
  • giveinventory script command now properly affects holdable items.
  • Added missing subtitles on tram and sfm levels.
  • Fixed very specific Dam crash.
  • Fixed a lot of signal 11 crashes. This one was an experience destroyer for many of ya.

    1. Yup, peeps still play this Classic FPS, including myself. Though, not many of them make MODS for this particular title though. But I have recently seen new Mods for RTCW.

      In fact we can also find mods for the first DOOM games as well, and other old FPS titles.

      1. Ultimate DOOM and DOOM 2 have always had a thriving mod community, but I thought the mod community for RTCW had died a long time ago. Maybe it’s just that it seemed to die when the old mod site got shut down.

  2. This game was such a disappointments for me back then, the singleplayer was so lame in it’s design, the flamethrower was the best thing and then the multiplayer. Coming after Half life and me being such an id software fan i had high hopes for this but all i got was quake 2 with nazis, but not even that because the gunplay isn’t as satisfying as you would expect from an id software produced game and its story is weak. This was the first game that showed me id can’t get out of it’s first blueprint for what an fps game should be and cannot innovate. The future proved me right.
    The mp was nice though for a few months

  3. This was one of BEST classic Wolfenstein game, and also one of the best old-school first-person shooter which redefined a new genre, and gave birth to other FPS titles.

    Just like DOOM 1/2, QUAKE 1/2, UNREAL1/2,HEXEN, HERETIC, HALF LIFE 1/2, DUKE 3D franchise and others.

    I still play this game occasionally though. This MOD sounds cool, but let me try this now before I can pass any concrete judgement.

      No this was the worst wolfenstein game because it was made by the same people who made redneck rampage and kingpin life of crime and like them it had awful combat level design and difficulty spikes. Also no its not “oldschool” at all, the game had sprint, weapon inaccuracy, sway and you couldnt even aim with a scope if you moved.

      The idea unreal 2 and half life 2 were oldschool is laughable, the boomer shooters we get now are oldschool.

  4. UPDATED version of Return To Castle Wolfenstein is out in Xbox Insiders.
    Game is using updated Microsoft Game Development Kit GDK, just like Wolf 3D, Quake 4 and other OG classics.

  5. Meh… This game starts showing its age. I prefer Blade of Agony mod with Doom, even if the developers are 200% woke.

    1. blade of agony was to big too large too ambitious. It falls out of favor after a white to a point the devs themselves had to make the levels smaller. Some levels are gigantic with hundrends of enemies its like they are having a competiion on how complex they can make the levels, then you have the stupid platforming sections or that area with the turbines or the zombie cod area. It goes on for too long and runs out of steam and it runs like utter crap. I dont know what you mean by woke, they had to censor the game with a patch because of the idiotic laws in germany, i still have a copy of the uncensored release.

        But you can’t find it online anymore.
        The only good thing about 3.1 is that it’s supposed to run better.
        I didn’t see any difference.

        And well, their messages on Moddb or on the Doom forums are very obviously woke. Didn’t you follow the whole story? It was absolutely pathetic…
        Some SJWs and other freaks kept harassing them and sent them hundreds of hateful comments, asking them to apologize for what they did, that their game should be banned, etc.
        You should look up the Doom forums, it’s really something…
        And the developers eventually caved in and modified the game just to please that stupid minority.
        Well, since the filter on this website is also stupid, I can’t even mention the things they deleted, but anyway, they just made their game PC.

        As for your comment on the game itself, I have to agree it did feel like I would need to keep playing for years to finish it, but I enjoyed it overall.
        Thanks God there are quicksaves for those platforming sections.

        The Zombie cod area was absolutely horrendous, and I STILL don’t understand how that system worked, because in my second run, I could bypass it completely. I didn’t get it. Definitely, I can’t deny many many levels are insanely confusing and / or maze-like.
        The last level in the castle is quite something…

        Still, maybe my favorite WWII game/mod.
        As popular as it is, the first Medal of Honor got old imho, and I’m not interested in recent COD.
        I might try a Sniper Elite game later.

        1. from what i read on moddb they said that some of that stuff might be illegal in germany that tormentor is from, that being said that group has their own forum site, so they dont use gzdoom forums which are full of leftoid morons.

  6. My first FPS, bought it when i was 13, I was stunned and totally mind blowed by the multiplayer (also i had internet for the first time that month. Played that beach map for hours/a day on beach map server only

    incredible memory, still have the box, and know the cd key by heart
