Star Citizen new feature

Star Citizen Alpha 3.17 has been released, new features detailed

Cloud Imperium has released Star Citizen Alpha 3.17 to all of the game’s backers. This brand new version brings a number of new features, and you can also find below a new trailer dedicated to it.

Going into more details, Star Citizen Alpha 3.17 adds the ability for players to sell inventory items. This includes loot found in derelicts and weapons ‘acquired’ from other players.

Moreover, Alpha 3.17 brings the first implementation of ship-to-ship refueling. According to the devs, this will give players a way home should they run out of fuel in the depths of space.

Furthermore, players can expect some mining gadgets. These mining gadgets modify the rock-breaking process to make it quicker, easier, or more fruitful.

This latest update also brings the first ship in MISC’s iconic Hull series. The MISC Hull A is the ideal tool for pilots looking to take their hauling career to the next level. The Hull A features the same telescopic cargo spindle as its larger relatives, giving players a taste of what’s to come with the Hull C later in the year.

It’s also worth noting that Alpha 3.17 features the initial implementation of rivers. This is the first stage in adding watercourses around the universe, more of which will be added in coming patches.

Lastly, Star Citizen Alpha 3.17 adds a new location, the Maria Pure of Heart Hospital in Lorville.

Enjoy!

    1. +700 devs, 6 studios, 1.000.000 individual backers growing every day. Worst scam ever 🙂

  1. Still in Alpha 11 years later. Cloud Imperium just keeps making more and more money. Last I heard they’ve taken in over 400 million dollars so far.

It’s just silly that so many people keep spending so much of their money on this game when it may not ever get finished.

    1. CB2077 took 8 years from a well established company, smaller scope, released as Done… but not yet finished two years later. Publishers DID spend hundreds millions $ over decades to be able to produce soulless copy-paste games they can’t even finish…

      1. private or open beta? also i think you got some things mixed up,2030 is the beta update for the Roadmap not the actual game…that comes later

  2. I get the concept of an “always evolving game” but at some point they’re going to have to switch engines again, and again. Something seems strange about this. Btw I tried one of their demos or whatever it was called a few years ago and even my mid range PC struggled to play it – or it wasnt optimized. Heck, it was just me floating in space from one end of a starship to the other and it was slow.

Maybe there’s more to this game that Im missing?

      1. You´re not wrong, but the diference is (most) MMOs are only available to the public at launch and at least they launch with a good amount of content and on a playable state and then expand after, not adding things that further bogges down the development pipeline delaying the project, for mostly useless features.

        1. At what time did you missed it is a crowdfunded game, with alpha disclaimer everywhere: release when done… This is called development wit +700 devs and 6 studios, supported by +1.000.000 individual backers.

          1. I didn’t, i been watching the trainwreck since the start. I fail to see what you said matters to my comment or the OP comment. But seeing that you´re replying to almost week’s old comments i think is fair to assume you´re just a drone of the game trying to defend it anywhere you see it.

          2. He is, his account just turns out whenever a Star Citizen story appears on gaming websites.

          3. This article is a week old. IS there a rule about not leaving comment after x days? 🙂

Contrary to those remaining naysayers/haters around, I don’t spend my day looking for a new article about SC 🙂

          4. “I don’t spend my day looking for a new article about SC :)”

I wish i could lie as shamelessly as you, you comment on every SC article in plenty of sites, the fact that you missed a deadline changes little.

          5. So… There is a rule somewhere about a limited time to comment to thread older than 5 days?
My answer was pretty clear but I can develop furthermore. All features, gameplay are either from the original scope or revised scope approved by backers through stretch goals till mid-2015. At this time CR himself said he won’t take anymore stretch goals.

Again, having bugs during heavy development phase is normal…

  3. Idk why games stay in alpha, beta as long as they do. The other head scratcher has always been 7 Days to die which I’ve played for years, and seems fully functional to me yet is in Alpha 20.4?????

  4. “Going into more details, Star Citizen Alpha 3.17 adds the ability for players to sell inventory items. This includes loot found in derelicts and weapons ‘acquired’ from other players.”

Riveting……yeah this game will never come out.

      1. Release when done, that’s what Backers pledged for. 2022 is already the best funding years month to month 🙂

        1. BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
I knew you wouldn’t disappoint us!
So, where’s the roadmap? Is beta too far away?

          1. I’ll admit i only follow these Star Citizen stories to see the most obvious shill doing his work. I don’t care about SC but i find it funny how the comments who defend the game looks so shady. Just in this post we have @joe blobers , @@parttimecrazy:disqus and @kuber who wrote some weird fanfiction in order to convince the plebs about how awesome the game is.

          2. That must be the same c*cksucker with different accounts.
Dude’s trying to sell the most expensive tech demo there is. And there’s those imbeciles who bought the idea and now try to put others on the same synking boat.

          3. There is factually no expensive tech demo. You can try for free the latest build several weeks per yer and get the full game for as low as 35$, with nos subscription what so ever and all assets available in game with in game credits.

          4. Already hundreds of hours playing alpha for 45$ over years… Quarterly update adding contents and gameplay, each year gathering more pledges (because more NEW backers) and several weeks for free to everyone to test the last build… 6 studios, +700 devs… worst scam ever lol

          5. All of that bull$hit talk, but… What about a release date? Or even better, what about a BETA build?
Do you think I’m a 12yo who can’t see the obvious? You are a joke, mate! Dunno if you’re part of the devs or not, but you really know how to svck a d*ck. Cause that’s the only thing you’re doing, svcking d*ck and blatantly lying.

          6. The precise release date is: when finished. If you want unfinished, copy-paste games there are thousands available.

          7. So those so called 6 studios, +700 devs are doing exactly what all day long? Cause a “game” anounced in 2012 should AT LEAST be in beta state in 2022, right?
But a scam, a scam is ever in alpha, cause there’s no game in there and will never have!
Should I mention Squadron 42. Bwahahahahahahahaha
You’re a joke and you know it.

            Prove me wrong!

          8. CB2077 took 8 years from a well established company with all resources (devs, pipelines, up-to-date game engine) at day one… Was released unfinished and still is 2 years after Gold release. SC gathered +1.000.000 individual players able to test the latest build several weeks per year… because SC is unique experience despite being in heavy development… Oh an by the way, CB2077 is a fraction of complexity of SC/SQ42.

The joke it to say to others who have all information in hands and free test over year to Stop having fun supporting the game 🙂

        2. You had me worried for a second there, going to report your employers if you don’t have a good excuse to turn out this late.

  5. Yeah, this game was announced when i was single and had a cat.Now i am married, with two kids soon to graduate and another cat. What kind of moron you have to be to keep spending money for so many years?Just curious, you know…?

  6. Maybe it gets finished when they fund another 400 million, hell just round it up to a billion. Can´t hate the devs tbh. Milk those stupid idiots dry

    1. Already hundreds hours of entertainment. Money well spend: 45/35$ with no subscription.

        1. Because you think new backers are joining because reading web game comment section 🙂
They do because CIG let everyone play the latest build several weeks per year for free… 🙂

          1. I tought they where joining AND spending money? I dunno, maybe you should pull some numbers from your sheet.

          2. You are a patented hater of CIG. no need of numbers just fact: Simple answer based on hater prophecy: “collapse 90 days top for sure!!”… back in 2015 🙂

          3. What’s with the name calling dude and putting words in my mouth dude, i’m just asking questions, lmao.

“Simple answer based on hater prophecy: “collapse 90 days top for sure!!”… back in 2015 :)”

Yeah, never said that, in fact i do believe CIG runs a pretty tight operation… like 10 years hyping a game.

          4. Simple answer: for readers looking to test for free SC, you can do it several weeks per year for free. Next round is this month starting on the 20th 🙂

          5. Ok, i’m gonna start reporting some of your posts as spam, i like you, but i don’t have tolerance for low level spamming.

          6. Who knows, i’ll just reported some of your copy paste comments and move on. Nothing personnel kid, hope you are not mad about it 🙂

          7. None of my comments have been edited/deleted. Apparently the meaning of spam is as accurate as scam 🙂

          8. “if a crime was not punished, that means there was no crime” – Joe Blobers

But hey, at least i made you check, sounds good to me.

          9. Don’t take everything so serious, it’s not good for your health. After all, you need to be in good shape for the SC beta release 🙂

          10. I am perfectly healthy thanks much for caring 🙂 SC Beta will come when ready not before and that make me totally zen.

          11. And here i tought a game on alpha or beta state constitutes a game NOT ready…?

  7. Best game ever!
I’ve been playing this awesome game for years now and I must say, I svck at lying!
But maybe someday I’ll play it, if I suffer an accident and lose what’s left of my brain.

  8. it’s always funny to read the comments of triggered people whenever there is a story about Star Citizen – did the game abuse you as a kid or something, lol.

      1. Or maybe we have a different idea of having fun, i’m sure disrupting your shill job in the comment section is not fun from your perspective.

        1. Fine. Nobody force you to join any crowdfunded model project. 1.000.000 individual did for SQ42/SC and keep coming at every quarter patch.

          1. I love when you put some numbers in your sponsored posts, be it either backers or money funding, haha.

          2. SC sponsor itself by letting everyone to test the latest build several weeks for free per year. Next round is this month starting on the 20th 🙂

          3. “Next round is this month starting on the 20th :)”

Thanks for letting me know, i’ll be sure to try the free build by then 🙂

        2. You disrupting nothing dude. New backers do not join because your or my comment but because they do test for free several weeks per year.

          1. Why post then if your shilling and my and others detraction don’t influence no one? According to you that is, pretty sure you are lying thru your teeth on this one or else you woudn’t be here arguing.

          2. I don’t argue. There is nothing to argue about hater. That is just an opportunity to provide information to readers like: next totally free event for none backers is on the 20th of this month. Enjoy the experience of the latest 3.17 build 🙂

          3. So you are just a spammer if your replies are off topic and unrelated to the conversation.

          4. Easy. Just flag them to Mod and see the result. The topic is SC. I am 100% in the topic 🙂

          5. You can still spam on topic you know… spam is about repeating things ad nauseum, which you do all the time.

          6. No need to t@g while replying to me, you know? Also, could you quote the posts where i repeat things? As for you, i lost count of how many times you said “best 40$ spent” and “worst scam ever”.

    1. Some people could feel scammed of spending thousands of dollars on in-game items, but i hardly doubt they are complaining thanks to the sunken cost. I like how @joe blobers downvoted your post and you upvoted his reply lmao.

        1. So you are a lawyer now? Should i trust a lawyer who can’t even discern a spam bot from a real human? Also scummy for you to believe scammed people deserve to be harmed, regardless of the scam being real or not.

  9. Spent about 3 hours playing yesterday, mostly running mining missions on Lyria with my Prospector. Mining became a little more difficult in this release, as the scanning icons and mechanics have changed, meaning you can’t just fly at 2,000m at 500 m/s and easily spot quantanium deposits. But at about 1,000m and 150 m/s, and using scanning pings a LOT more, still found 3 great deposits that are going to net about 417,000 UEC after the refinery work orders are complete, presuming I can make it from the refinery to ArcCorp to sell.

Space combat is a little wonky in the initial 3.17 patch though. The hit boxes are too far ahead of the ships, so CIG’s advice was “lead the target more” but the people into space combat are a little miffed about that. No doubt that’ll be patched soon. Bunker missions are apparently just as fruitful as always.

This new patch also contained some great optimizations. I’m playing on a 2019 27″ iMac at the moment (dual-boot) but even my little 4GB Radeon 575X graphics card got a bump from 20-25fps up to 40-60fps after I deleted my old shaders folder.

But there are still bugs… sometimes game-breaking bugs depending on which loops you’re into, such as bounty hunting at the moment with the hit-box problem. Sometimes you can still glitch getting out of the bunk in your hab room, and you get wedged half-into the ceiling. Sometimes you load into the game and the room is gone and you’re floating in space.

If you’re not ready to put up with those bugs and issues (most of which are easily resolved by either relogging or self-terminating and respawning at the nearby medical clinic) then yeah you should hold onto your money and wait until beta, whenever that is. For those of us willing to put up with the issues, the future is now, and the game is already playable in a number of ways.

Free Fly week is coming up for the Invictus event in May. All you have to do is download the 75GB in game files and you can check it out yourself. (But yeah, total scam, will never be ready! Grr! Arrgh! Pfffft! LOL)

    1. Welp, I was running a partial load of about 300,000 worth of the quantanium to Area 18 on ArcCorp to sell it, and somehow flying into Area 18, a UEE patrol came up beside me on approach and tried to scan me and I couldn’t see it and didn’t know it was there. So I picked up a CrimeStat for failing to comply with a search. Since I had a CS, I couldn’t get landing privileges at Area 18 or any other city where I wanted to sell the quant, so I was running through a series of attempts to clear the CrimeStat without losing the cargo.

None of them were working very well. So I figured i’d try a trick where I drop off the ship at a nearby moon, get myself killed or arrested and sent to the prison mines, or try to pay the fine without being riddled by the defense turrets, and then go back and pick up the ship and cargo again.

In the process, I wound up accidentally crashing my Hercules C2 transport into the surface of Lyria at 500m/s and blew it all up–the ship, 300,000+ UEC worth of cargo, and all.

So now I’ve headed out to GrimHex where the criminals hang out, so I could pick up some crypto keys, a new suit of armor, a plasma shotgun and ammo and attachments. Then I bought a Gladius starfighter so that I can stage an assault on a security outpost on Hurston where they keep one of the UEE CrimeStat network hubs. I’ll have to use the Gladius to destroy the defense turrets, then break into the facility and hack the uplink to delete my CrimeStat.

And all I wanted to do was mine quantanium…

          1. Guess they are copy-pasting their own forum comments for propaganda purposes, like i said the other day, SC supporters are shady as hell.

  10. Where is Joe Blobbers?! What happened to him? Could it be that even he gave up on defending this travesty?

    1. It will never happen. He is suspected of working for Cloud Imperium. He wants to see the gravy train go on forever and it seems like it will.

      1. LOL… Always fun to read non sense comment about who is who. By the way, more new backers every single day. A more than healthy gravy train 🙂

        1. So when you talk about backers and funding, who is the target audience? Investors, or you are trying to convince Cloud Imperium to not fire you?

          1. I am just pinpointing the non sense comments of Naysayers/haters rushing to every SC article to explain to the million individual backers to NOT have fun 🙂

          2. “rushing to every SC article”

Man, the projection is off the charts… Like, you exclusively comment on SC articles only, haha.

          3. Not the point dude. Just replying on the fact I am never the first commenting 🙂

          4. “Just replying on the fact I am never the first commenting :)”

I like replying to you my man, it’s too bad you only comment on SC related posts…

          5. That does not change the fact CIG have the best pledges total of all past years already in may 2022, date to date 🙂

          6. Why do you have to always change the subject dude? You wanted to argue you are not obsessed with SC, then goes back to the good old sponsored posts…
