Next-Gen Tomb Raider game will be using Unreal Engine 5

Crystal Dynamics has just announced that it’s working on a brand new Tomb Raider game. Moreover, this new Tomb Raider game – which will most likely come out on next-gen platforms – will be using Unreal Engine 5.

Crystal Dynamics stated that it has just started development on this new Tomb Raider game. Crystal Dynamics also claims that it will push the envelope of fidelity. Thus, we can at least expect great visuals from it.

Crystal Dynamics did not reveal any additional details about this new Tomb Raider game. However, we can safely assume that it won’t be coming out anytime soon.

    1. Good, the issue is that everybody is using Unreal and there seems to be little to no competition.
      Which is awful

        1. Not really, too many people using Unreal and if Epic wants to one day, they can shaft everyone whos dependent on it.

Not only that but Epic is pretty much owned by Tencent
And a personal thing for me is also the fact that most devs use the default lighting options of Unreal which look very off with greys everywhere and hardly any blacks, and an Anti Aliasing solution that blurs half the screen, but that thankfully can be disabled in pretty much every game.

Competition is good and Epic is getting complacent, the only thing that’s keeping Epic from going full on scum of the earth with monetization is Tim Sweney being an alright guy and all the money from Fortnite and Unreal Engine keeping the company afloat.

    1. Fair point, but i prefer a new Deus Ex on UE5 over watching Lara Croft turning into a dude (i still have PTSD from the last one) in all UE5 level of detail glory.
After CP77 i want a proper cyberpunk game and that always was DE for me.

        1. Human Revolution has the OG Deus Ex theme when you reach the credits, so latex is right technically 😛
Honestly, the soundtrack in the new games is pretty good too.

          1. Nah, for instance i can still hear in my memory the main menu theme from HR the moment you boot the game, it’s pretty good.

          2. I remember some bits and pieces from the main menu theme from HR if i try really hard, OG Deus Ex songs are more catchy, even the crappy ones like the Hong Kong hub theme.

      1. yea … right. ?
And Eidos Montreal is already listed under the list of studios currently developing projects in UnrealEngine5.
So kiss goodbye to Dawn Engine as well.

        1. I don’t have a lot of good memories over this Dawn Engine, was this the one for Mankind Divided? The loading times where atrocious back then.

    2. Eidos Montreal is already listed under the list of studios currently developing projects in UnrealEngine5.
So this means the death of the Dawn Engine that powered Mankind Divided and GotG.
Next Eidos Montreal project is in UE5.

    1. That’s stunning & Brave AF. I’m. If that doesn’t get you chubbed up I don’t know what will. Haha, ??? All seriousness man, you have a lot of time on your hands and I like it.

  1. after all the last 3 games do you really want a new one? No they wont become like the old games especially now that everything is woke and cinematic. Just play old games with custom campaigns, there is a guy on youtube called steven…bunch of numbers just type TRLE steven and you will find tons of good mission packs to play. There is even a “mouse helper” that emulates movements to your mouse ,its not like actual mouse but still better than nothing. Also there is a game like tomb raider developed but its really early, its called “among walls”.

    1. There is also a new engine in the works for new TRLEs.
Classic Tomb Raider modding is strong.

  2. If this game still not optimized like the last game after changing to UE5,it will be hilarious

  3. Tbh, Tomb Raider has been garbage since 2013, i only buy these games out of tradition, original Tomb Raiders were absolute classics both for Playstation 1 and PC (they were some of the earliest games to properly invest in PC port development) , haven’t even played the last one much, too much cringe.

    1. never got into original tomb raiders but 2013 at the time was really enjoyable with auto-duck mechanic and semi-open world collecting, rotating collectables to find secrets – nothing quite like it at the time.. (but yeah rise and shadow are basically 2013 rehashes, although rise has a unique endurance mode which has an infinite randomized map)

    2. 2013 wasn’t a typical Tomb Raider game for sure, but it was still great.
Whereas in the next 2 iterations they toned everything that made it great down.
A lot. Those 2 were terrible, certainly.

  4. “Crystal Dynamics did not reveal any additional details about this new Tomb Raider game. However, we can safely assume that it won’t be coming out anytime soon.”

A bit of good news that i won’t hear much from gender swapped Uncharted in a while.

  5. I remember the time when game studios announce what the game is about like the story and gameplay. Unreal Engine 5 is gorgeous and all but I’m too old to know that great graphics does not make a good game alone.

  6. Well, if there is any good side to this is that the game will be easily moddable, so the community will fix some the woke sh*t the devs might put.

  7. If it’s still doing mocap with Camilla Luddington’s body and voice, you must be a little bit non straight If you think she an ugly kunt tbf…

    1. She’s not ugly but she’s no super model either. Just average.
Who wants average though? Only ugly people so that they don’t feel too bad about themselves.
Frankly, they want her to be actually be ugly, so yeah, it could be even worse.

Still, games are fiction where you can and should go wild and show the best you can in every regard, not *average*. We have plenty of *average* in real life.

      1. IMO, I think she is beyond beautiful, her looks are not average, because average nowadays is Plumped up ” you don’t need a vagina ‘cus my lips look and feel the same with the same heat ” gigantic fake rock hard breasts and a bored complacent look on their face… there is nobody that thinks Camilla is ” Average ” …. Average is somebody is quite attractive, walking down the street that you give a second look at, I get that beauty is subjective… but even in a video game I don’t personally want all the female protagonists to look like some busty bimbo, like I’m some h*rny 13yo with a breast fixation..

  8. Haven’t seen IOI listed under the list of studios currently developing projects in UnrealEngine5.
But a rumor did came up few years ago (before the 007 project announcement) that IOI might be working on an UE project.
So there’s a possibility that their upcoming James Bond game is a UE5 game?
But I still have doubts, since as mentioned above, IOI is still not listed as a UE5 developer.
