Beyond Good & Evil 2 rumored to be in development hell

It’s been a while since our last look at Beyond Good & Evil 2, right? After all, the last time Ubisoft showed WIP gameplay footage from it was back in 2018. Since then, though, we really haven’t heard anything about this game. And, according to industry insider Tom Henderson, the game is currently in development hell.

Henderson claims that the game lacks a creative direction, something that got even worse when Michael Ancel left Ubisoft. Not only that, but its development team fears that Ubisoft may actually cancel the game.

Beyond Good and Evil 2 was the spiritual successor to the cult classic, and a prequel that will transport players into a profoundly multicultural world. The game aims to capture the spirit of the original with “grandiose decors and intense dramas that play out across a vast universe.“

In Beyond Good and Evil 2, players will fight alongside other characters in a new solar system, as they struggle for freedom and the right to determine their own fate among the stars. Players will be able to game either by themselves or with friends in a vast and seamless online playground.

  1. Now Ubisoft can go back to recycling few game franchises they didn’t yet destroy but they are about to. Sell Beyond Good & Evil franchise to someone who knows how to make a decent game.

  2. The game had already been questionable from the start and it just kept getting worse with every update: online only, gameplay which left a lot to be desired, Michel Ancel leaving Ubisoft after his allegedly toxic behaviour due to creative differences, typical Leftist dog whistles in their dev blogs, etc.

All the main talent that was keeping Ubisoft afloat and relevant have left the company a while back and this project is now at the hands of those untalented millennials with no real world experience. They’re all about feelings and stuff. Oh well.

  3. What;s wrong UBI-Soy? DiVeRsE “Developers” having a hard time with actual development because they lack the skill? could that possibly be the reason?….trash games being developed by incompetent people who are not interested in gaming but delivering propaganda for indoctrinating kids trough various types of media and are hard at work to normalize mental illness….

    1. That’s not the only side effect. Back in 20 something their CEO dropped a big potato when he officially stated that Ubis future agenda is and i quote, “every title will be a new franchise”. That’s why all their games have the same engine, animations, duplicate characters, handling and voice overs. Lack of inspiration, creativity and scenario. A truly sh.tty company.

  4. That game will never come out and I never thought it would either. I never like the idea of straight up cancelling a game, but at this point, when the creator of the game straight up leaves in the “middle” of development, and it’s already been in development for years… It’s time to call it quits.

  5. Just make a polished linear, narrative focused game. People just wanted another game where you play as Jade.

Not everything needs to an open world and/or be live service. Traditional SP games can sell well too. Even EA of all companies have learnt this lesson, i.e. the critical and commercial success of Jedi Fallen Order; the positive fan reaction so far to the Dead Space remake in the works.

    1. And coop games, i see EA’s “A Way Out” as one of the best coop games ever released, you won’t play that game for 400 hours but you will have a great and unique experience with any friend playing that game. Picking EA Play just for that game is worth it.

  6. well damn this was really the last ubi title i thought they would be able to hit out the park. looks like Ancel leaving was a void that was never filled and now it’ll probably either get scrapped or get re-released as a shallow version of its former self. shame.

I would replace all future tense verbs in this paragraph with “were suppose to”.

  8. At this point it is not even a rumor anymore.
    Ancel left.

And Ancel is a genius when it comes to design.

    1. They don’t have much problem churning out garbage every year, but when it comes to Beyond G & E, it’s a tradition of sorts.

    2. the first pic resembles the “Suck My D**K Initiative”
those soy girls will faint at the sight of an engine source code

  9. Rumored to be in development hell? Again? Lmao, remind me the first game release date, and the first teaser for the sequel (2008)… Not that it matters much, the Beyond Good and Evil 2 i wanted to play was cancelled a long time ago…

  10. Game featuring alphabet homoncus characters made by purple hair cows.
    Who could have guessed.
At least no ‘white male saviour’ would have to touch the game.

  11. Ubisoft games aren’t good for 14 years since they purposefully gutted a much superior Splinter Cell Conviction so it wouldn’t make AssCreed DOA. It hasn’t been getting any better since. Why anyone is even surprised or cares about the BGE2 fate after all these years of Ubisoft being nothing but Ubisoft?
