First gaming benchmarks revealed for the Intel “Alder Lake” Core i9 12900K

Intel plans to officially reveal its new Alder Lake CPUs later today, and the first gaming benchmarks for the Intel Core i9 12900K have been leaked online.

These benchmarks come straight from Intel, so take them with a grain of salt. After all, it’s always best to wait for third-party benchmarks from tech websites.

With this out of the way, Intel claims that the Intel Core i9 12900K is faster than the AMD Ryzen 9 5950X in most of the games it tested. Now I say “in most” because this new CPU is on par with AMD’s CPU in Crysis Remaster. Not only that, but the 12900K appears to be slightly slower in Shadow of the Tomb Raider. This is the first time I’ve seen official first-party graphs (from either Intel or AMD) in which the company’s CPU does not win all tests. So I guess… kudos to Intel?

We can also see that games using mostly one CPU core/thread will run better on the Intel Core i9 12900K. After all, Age of Empires IV and Far Cry 6 are two games that rely heavily on one CPU core/thread.

Lastly, you can find below the official MSRP prices for all of Intel’s Alder Lake CPUs.

  1. I read that these CPUs draw more more power than a 3080 LOL. Imagine a CPU needing more power than a high end power hungry GPU XD

  2. 12600KF for 260$ is bad news for Ryzen 7 5800x & Ryzen 5 5600X
this will annihilate AMD from the budget CPU market until they offer something similar

    1. if 5600X is priced at 200$ it will be a no-brainer choice, i hope they do, but knowing AMD recently, they’d rather phase zen3 out and bring zen3d or zen4 than to drop prices

      1. as if intel and nvidia fanbois were on the same level of AMD fanbois, the most agressive cult sh*tting up every forum, every comment section with their elemental butthurt. Even when AMD was leading for a brief period, their cultists continued with the attacks. Only AMD has such a retarded cult following, I enjoy fighting back

    2. there are some PCIe4+DDR4 motherboards you know. AM5 will be DDR5 and PCIe5 to so you still have the same problems with AMD

      1. ddr4 vs ddr 5 hmm not so sure about that as long as you have say 7200Mhz ddr 5 so it equals ddr4 3600mhz in essence but what PCIE5 does give you is more NVME pcie4 drive slots. which is very useful.

    1. Careful with these “Excellent” comments, you’re repeating yourself (which could lead to a ban for spamming).

      1. Fernando is a confirmed bot, so if you ever decide to ban, I doubt anyone will shed a tear.
He is just a laughing stock or “This user is blocked.” entity at this point.

  3. “These benchmarks come straight from Intel, so take them with a grain of salt.”

I’ll take them, and drop them in the trash. It’s not even worth wasting a grain of salt on these.

  4. “Darkest Dungeon”…….. “homosexuality”……

Ya, for anyone who has never been exposed to the first game, I’d pay to see the first thought that goes through their head, when putting those terms together.

Also, this game can get f**ked. Any game that insists on highlighting sexuality anymore, can get bent. This garbage has gone on for far, far too long already.

  5. Ya, I’ve been perfectly fine without Intel, and these numbers aren’t about to change my mind.

150W for their “budget” CPU? ? 241W for their mainline. 241……… Amazing.

  6. 5950X doesn’t have high boosting because it’s too densely packed, 5900X has 6+6 CCD while the top one has 8+8 CCD, 5950X has more hops to cache than the 5900X because of the core design so Ring bus is faster on 5900X. The only reason these 2 top SKUs beat out faster 5600X and 5800X is because they are binned, Binned to boost higher. Also 5900X has higher base clock than 5950X. Check TPU charts 5900X beats 5950X in games, GN also has 5900X as better CPU. Optimum tech as well.

This is probably the exact reason why AMD used 5900X to compare against 10900K not 5950X.

I do not like Hardware unboxed much for CPU and GPU the slight AMD bias which I often notice. They hate Intel and Nvidia very hard, not that I don’t watch, I watch most of their videos and like their Monitor reviews and etc VRM videos.

    1. I don’t have an AMD processor machine. So I do not have personal experience with them but that’s what I’ve read and learnt. I watched those videos already. Also I hate the GN Steve how he runs Intel K series processors with 125W PL1. Now ADL removed that BS with full Turbo Power which I personally like. Doesn’t matter if it’s AMD or Intel I want the top CPUs to run at full speed not like BGA trash or ARM garbage processors.

I’m infact looking to buy a new one but waiting but when I found AMD’s Chipset and Zen 3 having some design bugs like WHEA, DRAM past 3600MHz is not really worth hassle and the whole tuning of the Zen processors etc. So personally I’d sacrifice the X570 I.O and get a 10th gen unlocked chip and skip the hassle and run at full speed with DDR4 4000MHz C16 or 4400MHz C16 if IMC can take it.

ADL is not for me, it’s too complicated with big little bs and needs Win11 and new DDR5 premature era plus I want Windows 7. Zen 4 will be definitely interesting. AMD will be taking all these experiences with them and going to make a good CPU. I hope they do and push Intel because I want x86 to live on and do not give a chance to ARM at all.

  7. No thanks, I will stay on my 5800x. i mean all silicon valley is SJW trash AMD included. But intel is the Kohanim.

  8. Just an FYI – These benchmarks were done on Windows 11 without the AMD patch.

“Intel shows showing the 12900K being anywhere from slightly slower than the Ryzen 9 5950X, to being 30 percent faster. However, Intel does admit that these benchmarks were captured on Windows 11 before the performance patch for AMD CPUs was available, so the results aren’t as meaningful as they would have been had they tested the 5950X in its best performing mode, such as using Windows 10 or waiting for the patch to be available. ”

  9. These regular CPUs/mother boards are garbage. They are a waste of money. Sure an HEDT cost more money but in the long run it’s a better investment. You get 4x the resources and all the essentials going to the cpu instead of the weak a$$ chipset. Do you research folks, that 88 pcie lanes vs 24. What a joke! All these CPUs are garbage, very limited resources for what you pay. Build an HEDT (HIGH END DESKTOP)!
